Apparently we have now pulled out of a deal for Arnautovic after complaints from fans about his past actions.

Meanwhile, the latest on Rabiot is that his mother needs convincing since we are not the in the UCL.

What an utterly embarrassing mess.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did his Mother tell you that? Why does everyone believe all the tripe that everybody writes but only believe it, when they want to!

Is Rabiot better then virtually every midfielder we have at the club…YES is the plain and simple answer.

Do we need bodies in, that are better then what we got YES is the answer again, so I don’t see the problem, YES I can think of 6-7 better midfielders are they wanting to come probably not, so it’s a matter of horses for course, and the course at the moment is steady this ship and get on a even keel, that include Ten Haag.

But Newyorker, it's super important that they get the right personalities in the dressing room to create harmony and build a team spirit.

Utd have finally got rid of some disrupting influences so the last thing they need is to bring in some new ones.

Players' characters should be the first thing that the club investigates before they even entertain a signing.

It doesn't matter how good any one is if they are some kind of weirdo with their mother in tow.

I understand convincing players to join with no UCL that I get

But buying deadwood players when we need to be buying players that are a lot better than what we have currently should be the plan

Players for the future that can improve not players in 12-18 months that we look to sell

If you have a plan stick to the plan.

His mother is his agent and by all accounts he's a right old mummys boy.

We get the deadwood toxic out mostly this summer and now we are replacing it with more. The club are a shambles. Telling the media quickly every one from the scouting to ten hag is in agreement with this signing. Do I believe them no!

The club are saying this transfer doesn’t impact the de jong deal. So why now are we signing rabiot when it could have been done weeks ago. Again we have dithered behaved like amateurs. We were promised change was happening but nothing has changed.
We needed a mass overhaul this summer and when we don’t complete the bare essential signings we need it will just delay the process and we will need more Windows to get this team anywhere near competing. What makes no sense is that TH said clearly we need the right players not just players maybe he knew then that the club were targeting players he didn’t want. It wouldn’t be the first time van gaal for example that he is given 5th choice players to sign. I really can’t believe that Rabiot is a ten hag choice. This will end badly if that is the case.

Twenty, I don't believe any deal for Rabiot impacts the FDJ deal or a deal for a midfielder with similar qualities to FDJ.

I merely think that EtH has had long enough now to assess the players he has, players like Garner, Donny, Fred and McTominay and he has decided that he needs a player with greater technical skill and experience.

At Ajax EtH played Lasse Schone alongside FDJ, his role was an enabler. He didn't excel at any one thing, he would work hard, win the ball without being crunching tackler, he'd move the ball on without being an expansive passer, he'd fill in holes around the pitch as and when they appeared and helped knit things together. Maybe Eric Cantona would have called him a water carrier. He intelligent and technically sound with enough mobility, strength and pace to play any role in midfield without excelling and any one particular. Who plays that role for us under EtH.

Lets say we sign FDJ, who plays alongside him?

Both Fred and McTominay lack the technical qualities and the intelligence to win the ball cleanly, retain it and move it on quickly and intelligently.

Donny is more of a No.10/ second striker, while he lacks the physicality/ dynamism to play consistently in the heart of midfield in the EPL.

Maybe Garner can do it, he certainly has all the skills, its just a question of whether he is ready and can he do it to the standard we need?

If EtH doesn't think Garner is ready or good enough then we need someone who can do that role.

Maybe he thinks Charlie Savage could be that player in a couple of season's time, so need someone for the next two years who could then be phased out in 3 years time for someone like Savage. Maybe a 27 year old Rabiot is the solution. Maybe not the one I'd have gone for, but I'm not the manager. If he's EtH's choice then let's go with it.

I agree if it’s the managers choice then I will back the signing. If he’s gone for rabiot now then it’s suggests the original target we couldn’t get. I don't think he just realised on Sunday that the midfield was no good.
I would be shocked if we got FDJ now I don’t think we have or had a chance to get him.
Knowing our club we will be sat there on deadline day without anyone for that role TH wants. Then come the summer again we will need that position along with a striker a RB a CB aGK a RW and again the club will mess up and again the squad is lacking going into that season. What could be a 3 window change with this club will take a decade. They don’t have a clue. Mistakes happen but to continually make the same ones is unforgivable.

Shappy - If you want to put a positive spin on the situation then that’s you’re prerogative but where is the evidence that we are going to buy another midfielder. All summer it’s been about FdJ, no alternatives have been muted. It has always been FdJ or bust. As recently as Friday EtH was saying they won’t sign just anyone and they must be the right players. Two days later bids go in for Rabiot and Arnautovic. The evidence suggests this is yet another example of the Club chasing a player all summer, not delivering, then panic buying. I’d be absolutely amazed if we got another midfielder in addition to Rabiot and if we do it won’t be FdJ but another panic buy alternative.

If Rabiot does eventually sign on the dotted line I think we’ll Eriksen converted to a No6 deep lying playmaker type role with Rabiot alongside him box to box. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Rabiot wasn’t even first choice.

I think (hope) Sunday put to bed the Fred/ Mctominay axis and if it didn’t then EtH is a fool.

I simply don’t trust the decision makers or the vast majority of the players at the Club. This may be a very unpopular opinion but I’m already questioning the judgement of the manager. Any sensible Utd fan could have told him that it’s complete madness to try and play a high line with Maguire or to play out from the back with McFred. We know those two just can’t progress the ball up the pitch. He might be a good coach but he’s not god!

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt but if he plays the same team against Brentford then I have serious reservations already. I said exactly the same thing about RR. If he continued to play Maguire and McFred then his reputation would be tarnished and results wouldn’t improve. If you can’t learn from previous mistakes we have no hope of progressing.
