Hey guys, lots of talk of Antony of course, what do you think of that idea Good right winger, rotate martial and rash as a cf? I'm not sure, can only be the logical explanation? Seeing we will be so light of cfs? On another note where is rashs best position, has to be cf if Antony is signed with additional young cover on right or perhaps competition for rash on right seeing he's not in great form, to say the least.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't see us forking over £80m+ for Antony, particularly if the Ronaldo situation isn't resolved soon and he remains on our books.

Well according to Luckhurst EtH wants 4 new players.

A goalkeeper, a midfielder and two forwards.

I'd imagine it's a cheap back up keeper. The midfielder is obviously FDJ or an alternative if that deal cannot be done. While I'd expect the forwards will be one wide player (probably right sided) and a centre forward.

Something like FDJ, Antony, Sesko and a backup keeper based on current rumours.

I don’t personally think we’re getting De Jong or Antony now. Sesko and GK would be a start.

Fair bit of cash to get those deals done Shaps.

The price Ajax are quoting for Antony should be a quick "thanks but no thanks". Sesko being quoted at an estimated £55 million is also way too much considering RBS sold Adeyemi for half that.

Maybe there's a deal there for Sesko if they can negotiate a reduction in price. Ajax were firm on the price for Martinez so I would assume there is no room for negotiating with Antony.

Ten Hag is rolling the dice waiting to get players in. If we start well, all's well that ends well. If it goes pear shaped his stubbornness to move on from unrealistic targets could come back to bite him.

i reguarly read the Dutch papers and watch tv vi internet as I like to keep my hand in with the language as I lived there for a while.

Before UTDs interest they valued Martinez at 25 million and Anthony at 40 by all accounts.

Mumbles, I tend to agree that while Antony is a top young player and clearly EtH's preferred target, I think the price quoted is too much and could easily become a millstone around his neck.

I think Antony would need a year to adjust to the EPL, which he might not get from the fans if he costs in excess of 60m.

There are conflicting reports about how much RBS would want for Sesko, a lot of media outlets have jumped on this 55m fee, yet there are reports that they would want no less than 30m. So who knows what sort of fee he would cost.

I actually like his approach of only buying the right players. The club in recent history has been far too concerned with making a signing that they have gone too far down the list of options. Ultimately bringing in players who weren't ideally suited or good enough. That is how we have a squad we have spent 1.4bn on that is probably worth 600m if we are lucky now.

Far better to go with a youngster who might not be good enough then spend 40m on a player who isn't good enough.

And yet he can't win either way there Shappy if the season doesn't go well. If they sign no midfielder, it's 'they didn't sign a midfielder and ended up having to play Garner every week when McTominay broke his leg' vs 'they ended up resorting to Neves who looks completely lost'.
The alternative is that things do slowly start to come good. I too would prefer them not to resort to 4-5th choice players, but firmly believe that 2nd-3rd choice is fine as those players can still work out great, and you can't have everyone.

Spenno, it's all about the narrative. No matter what happens this season if the media want to they can portray it in a negative light.

If we win the League cup and finish 4th it could be considered that we had a good season in context of where the club finds itself currently. Or the media will say the smallest cup and 4th place isn't good enough for a club the size of United and that we are the new Arsenal.

Both are true, but it's the context that is important. If the club settles for 4th and a cup run then that isn't good enough, if it's a passing point on the road to bigger and better things then there is nothing wrong with it and it's actually a good sign.

Anthony is a terrific player and will only get better. His transfer valuation is only going to be higher in years to come. I would hate to see him at City or Liverpool and think if only we had signed him.
