The whole playing side of the team is about to change.
For the 1st time in years we will develop a system with patterns of play and we will, in time, become a really well drilled exciting team to watch.
The challenge is how quickly the players can adapt to and adopt the new asks but also how quickly that eth can tweak his principles to adapt to the pace and style of the epl
I'm really looking forward to how that develops.
We have some potentially exciting youth prospects. I'm full expecting 3 or 4 exciting new signings that will be in keeping with what ETH wants to do and the moving on of some more players out of the squad.
Have not looked forward to the beginning of a season more in years.
At last I have real hope that I will begin to enjoy watching the team again and have some pride in the team. Supporting a team with a plan and with a common purpose and goal.
A realistic target in my mind and one I'm hoping they achieve is plus 20 points on this season.
It's a big jump and while I'm optimistic I wouldn't say confident as these lads are in for some culture shock.
Honestly its been the best time to be a united supporter since the day moyes was appointed.
It's like being back in the 70s and 80s. Going unto the season as complete underdogs and very little expectation of success.
But the doc and big Ron never quite got there (I'm wiping sexton era out of my memory bank as I'll do with oles in time) but when fergie came despite a poor couple of seasons and sailing close to the wind you could feel the team were getting there.
I'm hoping to see similar winds of change on the pitch and around the club under eth.
It's a big mountain they have to climb no doubt but we've been in bigger holes than this.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on, Ken. Totally agree and I'm the same in looking forward to this season more than almost any other in the last decade.

At the very least I'd expect some entertainment from the side which is more than could be expected under any of the previous managers since Fergie.

Shhh Ken, don't be silly. Haven't you heard? It's 3 weeks into a 12 week transfer window and we haven't signed any of the 300 players we have been linked with yet.

On top of that we haven't sold our entire squad of bags of potatoes masquerading as footballers.

The Glazers took out a dividend in a move many consider more aggressive than when Hitler started building concentration camps.

EtH will be sacked by Christmas in the greatest miscarriage of justice Manchester United fans have had to endure since the Greek authorities decided NOT to lock Harry Maguire up in a cell. Leaving United fans forced in to watching him lurch around the pitch reminiscent of the Titanic after its fateful meeting with an iceberg.

The only glimmer of light is that the club looks finally set to sign Wesley Sneijder now he is too fat to run away from us.

We're doomed, DOOMED. All joy and light in the world has been extinguished. Sauron has won, recovered his ring from the midget thief with the hairy toes and covered all middle Earth in a second darkness. He will reign supreme from his deserted fortress the EmptyHad, while we all burn and suffer.

I'm quite optimistic too Ken. Not because I think we'll win anything next year but I just want to enjoy watching United again. The main thing I'm looking forward to is the ruthlessness the manager has for the player's who don't buy into his beliefs. I think there's one or two kids too who can hopefully kick the door open and be given minutes.

By the way, any tips on blocking the Ole regime from the memory, let me know!

lets see if the dressing room is in better shape first-sorry but i'm a bit jaded having seen some very good squads on paper just not able to bring any sort of success onto the pitch amid talks of player power and a general can't be arsed atitude that has poisoned the squad.

Some of the disruptive elements will be gone when the season starts, a few might still remain and will the new squad have the mental toughness this season to put a defeat behind them or will we still see these bad runs we go on whereby it seems there's no clue how to turn things round -like when we concede an early goal or not being able to win away from home. remember the knives will be out for ETH at every slip up . heres hoping for a fresh start!

Im with you ken as much as i have moaned with thr lack of activity, i am looking forward to the start of the season.

If there is genuine signs of us implementing an attacking attractive philosophy, of players improving, that would be enough for me. I am not expecting any progress to be fast I just want to see us start a definite path. Anything more than that is a bonus.

I will support United no matter how bad the dross on the pitch is, but I just want this year something to get behind and to have a belief that we may actually be heading the right way.

The Brucie bonus for me will be ETH integrating a few of the kids and some of them looking like they will make it.

I’m excited and optimistic too, regardless of who or who doesn’t sign. Saying that I really hope FdJ signs as he’s clearly the fulcrum EtH wants to dictate the team.
Generally I’ve been excited and quickly let down by all the managerial appointments over the years. In particular LvG, I was so excited to see how what this former Barcelona coach could do. Arguably that was the worst stint of all.
Many of the squad return to begin training tomorrow, when Erik gets a first look at what he’s got to play with. Guess it will be a mixed bag of mostly youths and squad players this week.

I think all the optimism and joy of watching united has been nearly sucked out of me haha.

Here's hoping to a new dawn, on the pitch, at least.

26 Jun 2022 20:43:31
To be honest bolger I think we all are.
I get some of the frustration.
I get and am wholly with the disdain for the owners but some perspective is needed on that point by many imo.
The only thing that matters is what are squad is come close of the window. Then how eth works with them and vice versa.
Never been a better time to be a united fan than right now than at any point in the last 10 years.
My primary concern is what goes on on the pitch.
Not in the board room or shareholders. That is what it is.
I just want to enjoy what's going on on the pitch and not get sucked up in the modern day media frenzied fed by exactly what we read on this page.

I like this thread Ken very much. Frankly all I want to see is some entertainment and good football!

26 Jun 2022 21:38:24
I hope EtH turns out to be our Klopp.

26 Jun 2022 21:42:37
I am optimistic as well Ken, i am always a glass half full type. I have been a big critic of some players, mostly Rashford, but i go into this season giving every player a clean slate. I have seen your opinion of Fred, and other people claim Maguire or even Bruno are not good enough.
I believe he whole structure of the club and the whole coaching system has been wrong for a long time. I have real hope that we may finally be heading in the right direction.
I ask every fan to give every player the benefit of the doubt, and see what Ten Hag can do do with each player, less of the he isn't good enough, until we see what the manager thinks.
Everyone on here thinks they are an authority on who is a good player, but over the years, how many big money signings have flopped.
I hope everybody can join the real world and realise we need a few years of good coaching, and sensible transfers to begin to compete with City and Liverpool, but the man who knows more than any on here is the man in charge, so let's all let him do his job and give him time for his vision to mould itself onto the team, whoever he chooses.

26 Jun 2022 22:17:06
I have such low expectations now, jaded really.

Just don't bore me, it's not a lot to ask, you don't even need to win, just look like you're trying and don't let me fall asleep.

26 Jun 2022 22:52:24
Bang on inhope.
If ten hag can get martial playing well ill be joining in cheering him on.
I've said every player gets a clean slate imo.
Some will have a short rope I admit but if they buy into the plan and do all they can and the manager picks them that's good enough for me.

26 Jun 2022 23:33:08
Nice post Ken. Agree it’s a time to be excited playing wise now we have a very well respected coach in. We need to stick with Ten Hag no matter what. Realistically write off next 2 seasons. But I do agree we are capable of getting 20 points more by a better manager in and defined style and attacking progressive football back.

27 Jun 2022 00:16:01
Ken, very nice post. I hope ETH can sort the team spirit. I was the biggest advocate of ETH joining United when most wanted Poch.
The crux of the matter will be if ETH can stamp his authority and discipline the squad. And for that to happen, he needs the backing of the owners, not only financially, but within the decision making process.
I am absolutely behind ETH, but I'm still unsure about the setup within the club.
Teams above us are very good and have strengthened. We can be as optimistic as we like, but with the defence and midfield we've got, we're not top4 material. And I also worry where the goals are coming from.
I always have hope for any new season, but let's not kid ourselves, our first team is not up to anything, and the team spirit was shocking.
On positive side is ETH methods, discipline, and the emergence of some good youth players.
