Interested in your opinion guys especially if you have a legal background.
We see today that MGs bail has been further extended.
The alleged offense occurred in January (and having heard the recordings seems pretty damning) . However what could be the reason why this has not been resolved by now and what could be going on in background to resolve this.

If the guy is a rapist scumbag then fair enough, but what if he isn't?
Ignoring what the alleged offence is (difficult I accept) then what is the reason why this has been dragged out for so long, surely this should have got to court by now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Police investigations take time, in a high profile case like this they need to make sure they get it right. While cases of domestic violence and sexual assault are always difficult cases to gather evidence for.

If you've heard the recording then its hard to argue a case for him.

His career is over, it's just a long process through the legal system. Best ignore it until something is announced.

im no legal expert but if the tape is genuine and I don't doubt it is then he is a low life who has no place at the club despite any legal verdict -although i doubt the money men will see it that way - anyways if its true I hope by the time the season starts his girlfriends family/ friends will have hospitalised him so he s out the squad anyway and he can have no complaints if he's sat in plaster when the season kicks off.

MG’s case is as high profile as they come so the CPS will want to ensure every I is dotted and T crossed before formally charging him. It’s multiple rape allegations though as well as a threat to kill. Such aggravating factors would ramp up the likelihood of being found guilty as well as the length of the sentence.

There can be significant time passed between allegation, investigation, charging and ultimately court proceedings. There is still a wider backlog of investigations due to impact of C.V. too.

MG hasn’t even been charged yet but suspect he will be and United would part ways with him at that point. Again I’m no legal expert but pretty sure a good lawyer would tag his alleged activities as cause for gross misconduct. United could pursue dismissal for gross misconduct regardless of whether MG was found guilty or not.

I would suggest that United would not do anything until after the Court trial due to a matter that is known as sub judice in English law.

In practical terms it's far more beneficial that no decision on anything is made until after the Criminal case is ended.

This is why you will see Police Officers, teachers social worker doctors etc suspended on full pay until a criminal proceeding is completed.

You do not want the criminal process influenced in any way and therefore a misconduct judgement should defer to the criminal process.

Finally it makes sense simply because the criminal outcome may render any civil hearing irrelevant anyway.
