Fair play to City. They've effectively got Haaland and Phillips for £54m now Jesus is heading to Arsenal.

But fear not boys and girls our transfer hopes and dreams are about to be realised .

Yh we are a shambles.

Im sick of moaning but look at all the teams that we need to catch

All strenthening.

Just setting us back further, be suprised if we get top 6 at this rate.

24 Jun 2022 23:28:50
It’s all in control, we have a plan, and we know what we’re doing…………….

24 Jun 2022 23:51:01
You can’t count Haaland as a free. The agent and signing on fees are science fiction, not forgetting the wages.

25 Jun 2022 00:16:41
City got a bargain in terms of haaland

And if he hot the ground running they will walk the title.

25 Jun 2022 02:48:21
Panic! Panic!

Why is everyone concerned about City?

The title race is between them and Arsenal unless Chelsea or Spurs spend 300m to close the gap. Even then they will still struggle to overthrow the top class settled teams at City and Liverpool.

We wouldn't challenge City and Liverpool for the title next season even if we spent 500m.

It's not just about signing players. It's about building an identity, a style of play, a winning mentality within the squad.

Those things take time. It's took both City and Liverpool around 3 years under their current managers to build teams that consistently achieve 90+ points a season.

That's now the level we need to be at to compete for titles and it will similarly take at least 3 years for us to get there. Either that or we would need to see a big drop off from BOTH City and Liverpool.

We are battling with Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal for one of the remaining two UCL places. Of course we could also get back into the UCL by winning the EL.

Think of it like rebuilding a dilapidated old building.

First you need to clear away all the rumble and see what you have to work with.

Then you can plan which bits are solid and which bits need knocking down and rebuilding.

Only then can you start the lengthy process of adding additional ground work, putting up new walls, adding a roof, fitting out utilities, putting in windows and doors, before finally redecorating.

EtH and United are at the clearing the rubble and working out what is needed stage.

Maybe we will see the start of rebuilding. But most of that will take place over next few seasons.

25 Jun 2022 07:49:50
Shappy whatever you're saying is 100% true and makes perfect sense. However, because of our approach over the last 10 years is why the building has become dilapidated.

Now, we May see a change in the approach going forward, but up to now there seems to be no change.

I'm afraid that if things just continue as they are, as we've seen with all the Post SAF managers, we'll be hearing Ten Hag needs to go by around Oct or Nov. Given the power of social media as well as the media itself, he may very well be gone by December. I really do wish that I'm wrong.

If they are planning to renovate the building, we should be able to see something a bit more than just clearing the ruble. If you bring down one wall surely you have to think of the materials needed to put up a better one asap. Failure to do that and you'll be living in a three-sided room until you can figure it out.

25 Jun 2022 07:51:01
Shappy we are still going to be concerned about city because ultimately the end goal should be about beating them to trophies.

We don’t see to be being proactive enough to give the manager a chance to work with new players for the pre season. Perhaps that’s why he wants a few of his former players because they can hit the ground running in terms of understanding what he wants.

25 Jun 2022 08:28:44
Ramsey, it's generally not a good idea to bring the new materials to site before the wall has been ripped down and cleared away. There's only so much space.

I agree that the running of the club over the past 17 years has been atrocious, it goes back before Sir Alex retired. He was just papering over the cracks. When he left there was a power vacuum and it's now clear the wrong people seized power and wielded it irresponsibly.

EtH faces an uphill battle and the fans need to get behind him. Most will. However, for me the biggest problem he will face is a lack of patience from fans due to unrealistic expectations.

Fans expecting to see great football and challenging for trophies in all fronts will be disappointed.

I wouldn't expect to start seeing consistent performances until after Christmas at the earliest. We'll see a few changes in shape and style, intermittent patches of good football followed by the same old mistakes. Individual errors costing us goals or missing good chances etc.

I don't think we'll really start to see what EtH wants from this side until March or April. A world cup mid-season will not help and potentially slow the progress.

Temper your expectations otherwise you'll be disappointed. We are already seeing it in fans crying out because the club haven't signed half a dozen players yet.

25 Jun 2022 08:30:15
Caolan, I expect he is going for players he knows as a priority as he is aware how broken the dressing room is and needs as many players on side as possible. He is a disciplinarian, which will see several players kick out against him. The more he can have on his side the more likely he is to be able to keep ahold of the dressing room and change things.

25 Jun 2022 09:47:21
City got a bargain in terms of haaland? Really? That massive signing on fee and wages for somebody who is starting to get niggling injuries and unproven in the prem? He's an unknown quantity as of yet. May work out may not. Doesn't strike me as a pep player though. Big and bullish didn't work out so well for ibrahimovic under pep. He could get on like firmino, or he could get on like Werner. Bundesliga to premier League is massively different.

I think some people are missing the point. Yes the analogy to rebuilding a derelict building is a good one, but in this case it’s slightly different.

The fans will of course give ETH time and get behind him. But……the players we currently have are simply not good enough! We know it, the pundits know it, Ralf knew it, and I reckon based on his squad analysis before taking the job…. ETH knows it too.

Given the nature of this squad, I don’t honestly think it’s an unrealistic fan expectation to have had a couple of signings over the line by now. I’m convinced that any manager could go into a football club, spend a day or two with scouts, recruitment teams and data analysis special-ists, coupled with your own ideas…. and have a list of realistic targets ready who could improve your squad. I don’t work at a football club, but I really don’t see how hard the process can be.

I guess with all this said and done there’s one limiting factor……. money. And as I’ve eluded to previously, I don’t think we’ve got any. In fact, I think United are skint personally. And that boils down to the fact that the Glazers won’t put a penny of their own money in and the fact that Arnold has hinted we need outside investment. I think we’re at a real financial pinch point. The value of the asset i. e. the football club is at an all time low and the debt is at an all time high.

RedWhiskey, you can't say that, didn't you know the sky is falling and everything our rivals do is fantastic and beyond reproach?

People talk about Haaland as if he was free. They paid 51m as an initial fee with a potential further add-ons. They paid a huge signing on fee and agents fees, comfortably adding an extra 25-30m to the initial cost.

While the point about his niggling injuries is a salient point in my opinion. He has struggled with injuries, and players who have a massive growth spurt while young and while competing in men's football often struggle as they get older with injuries. They often put their body through strain while it is growing, adapting and developing which can make it prone to injury for the rest of their lives.

Add to that his father's genetics. After all his father suffered repeated injuries throughout his career and had to retire early as a result.

While the more physical nature of the EPL, both in terms of more robust challenges and the faster stop start nature of the league, then you have to question will his body stand up to such a test?

Maybe it will, or maybe the player who only made 24 starts from a possible 40 for his side last season might struggle more in a more physically demanding league.

Fireman, therein lies the problem. Your assuming that it could be all sorted in a few days, but admit you have no idea about the actual process.

In fact your not just assuming you are "convinced" about something that you admit you have no idea about.

I'm pretty sure scouting cannot to conducted in a matter of days.

To start with you need to access the players you have and find what is missing that is needed.

That's hard to do for a new manager who hasn't even had one training session with the players. Maybe he can train Rashford to be world class in his system, or maybe he can't. No one knows not even EtH until he can actually get on the training pitch with the player.

So let's say he knows what he needs for the squad. Now he needs to send the scouts out to specifically look for the traits he needs. That means watching hundreds of games. Maybe you watch one game and find a player who might have what you need, but you'll need to watch him a dozen times at least. Or maybe you'll watch a game and the player you were there to watch just isn't good enough or doesn't have what you need.

Pretty sure you can't scout the players EtH wants in a couple of days, especially when no matches are being played.

That's probably why we seem to be linked to players EtH has worked with and who he knows 100% have the skills he is looking for.

Rather than relying on scout reports based on looking for different sorts of players with different sorts of skills/ traits needed.

If our scouts have spent the last year scouting CB's who are aerially dominant and physically strong, but EtH wants a CB who is quick, mobile, comfortable to play out from the back and tactically astute then what good will the reports on tall, aerially dominant CB's be?

EtH seems to have a list of players he thinks would be good, most seems to have worked with him before. Getting those signings though isn't as simple.

Singings often take months of prep work and organising. Liverpool first spoke with Darwin Nunez's agent in January, the spoke with them again around the time of the UCL final, and then they spend weeks in discussions with Benfica before signing him. 4-5 months after first contact, and probably 10 months after first scouting him in a serious way.

Yet you are convinced you or any manager could do it in a couple of days.

You can see the disparity between what you think and what seems to the the reality of the situation surely?

Yes, to seriously challenge for the title we probably need at least 10 new players, that will not happen in one or even two summer transfer windows. It'll take three seasons at least to be at a level to challenge and achieve 90+ points. That's just the reality of the situation.

This summer is more about getting the trouble makers out and clearing the decks.

We still have 37 players who's future needs sorting, either to keep as part of the 25 man squad or to move on either on loan or permanently. And that's after 6 have already departed.

We could sell/ loan out another 12 players and still have a 25 man squad and no room for new signings.

Shappy, based on the last 3 or 4 seasons we have to finish above City or Liverpool or beat them if drawn against them in any cup to win domestic silverware. Both those teams are visibly investing and improving. Appreciate investment does not guarantee success. However lack of investment for us, especially given level of players we are losing, looks ominous.

I have no doubt that part of Ten Hag’s pitch to the United Board will have been how he will coach players to extract every % performance point out of them and how he will develop raw youth talent into premier league players. But we know Guardiola, Klopp, Tuchel, Conte etc can do that too.

I suspect we will see a lot of promotion from the youth set up and much fewer signings than expected. De Jong, Anthony and perhaps either Torres or Martinez I’d expect to come in. Fernandez, Garnacho, Garner, Mejbri will likely all be first team regulars now.

United have to improve 20 points for me just to get 4th. That’s a big ask when Spurs and Arsenal already motoring and City and Liverpool highly likely to be at their impressive 90+ points best yet again.

At the moment we are the team who needed to make the most changes and, to date, have made the least.

Yes appreciate the window is open for ages and we don’t kick a competitive ball til 7Aug. I also appreciate massively that regardless who comes in, Ten Hag Will, based on his Ajax side at least, get us playing good attacking football regardless the personnel. But fans have the right to be a bit miffed at present!
