Personal opinion but I wouldn't put too much weight to the Darwin Nunez transfer, seems very much a case of champions league football being the deciding factor for the player which is out of our control now.

The bell weather for how our summer is going to pan out seems more likely to be the De Jong transfer. I mean if Ten Hag and the club are unable to convince a player who I can only assume has a good relationship with the manager after helping him develop at Ajax, combined with the fact FDJ is basically being forced out of Barcelona due to financial reasons then its going to be a long painful summer.

Also central midfield is a much higher priority area than forward areas, we don't have one single proven premier league quality level player in that area of the pitch at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get UCL is the attraction but why not think

"Ill join and help get united back into the UCL"

Ill be part of this "rebuild" and get united back.

10 Jun 2022 10:07:28
Agree on much of that DSG. On the one hand if Nunez is/ was a priority target for ten Hag then the club should go all out for him. From another perspective that main central midfielder IMO is the key position the club needs and I suspect much of the budget and outcome of filling that role could dictate everything else we can do this summer so makes sense to sort that out first. Perhaps that's why it doesn't feel like much is happening.

10 Jun 2022 11:12:05
Bolger haha. Will ya stop ?.

10 Jun 2022 11:29:10
Bolger.
Nunez may be thinking "Hope Real Madrid comes in for me so I can win UCL 4 or 5 times before my retirement (irrespective of the manager) and Liverpool won't be the same if Klopp quits sometime in future. "

10 Jun 2022 11:38:11
Angelred ??.

10 Jun 2022 12:34:19
Im not sure why everyones so hot under the collar about nunez. Ed had told us he wants champs league so for me personally that meant wed have to pay over the top wages wise to even get him to consider us. That has been half of our issue in recent times. Something that needs to stop. i'd rather players want to come to play for the club not for the wages on offer. Couple that with the fact we need 2 cms a rb a cb really before we think of a striker. The spine of the squad needs fixing before jumping on these icing on the cake type signings.

10 Jun 2022 13:11:06
Correct W16. We need the sponge before the king.

10 Jun 2022 13:37:58
Icing. Not king dammit.

10 Jun 2022 13:39:38
So we don't pay top dollar, miss out on preferred targets who are good, settle for second grades and then have a chance of missing out on CL again next season. And then repeat.

10 Jun 2022 14:23:48
How did di maria work out? Or Pogba?

Was everyone fighting over Salah when Liverpool moved onto their 4th choice forward?

We need good recruits that will fight for the badge and the manager. There are many good players in the world who don't work out at certain clubs.

10 Jun 2022 18:29:10
Have you considered united were never even in for Nunez, and it’s just agent and his club bumping up the price, I have not heard any United official say we want Nunez. just some on here been banging on about it, maybe ETH don’t even want him, perhaps he don’t suit his style, maybe ETH thinks he won’t suit premier, who knows but if agent club get another 10 mil from Liverpool, we’ll done that’s business.

{Ed014's Note - have you considered you’ve just grasp at some straw to make yourself feel better that another player chose a bigger and better club? ?‍♂️

10 Jun 2022 18:42:06
If you go on that basis Duvin then you can probably stop reading 99.9% of everything about player transfers fullstop.

10 Jun 2022 19:33:59
I don't get the big deal.
He wants to go to Liverpool.
They are in great shape on the pitch have a good manager and are competing for the top prizes.
Unlike you ed014 I don't believe they are a bigger or better club but respect totally that they are in a great period (although only moderately successful) under klopp. They have a really good squad. Liverpool are at a moment in time where they can attract players of the highest calibre due to having an inspirational manager and I can understand why any player would want to play under klopp. But they also have a history and tradition that helps attract players even during their league trophy 30 year famine they still attracted plenty of top players. (Along with plenty of dross not looking at you David speedie?)
No club gets all their 1st choices.
Madrid lost out to city and psg this summer.
City lost out on kane.
It's not a big deal when you miss out on any signing nor is there any shame in it.
Move on to the next target if you can't close the deal.

{Ed014's Note - financially is the only way you’re bigger mate.

10 Jun 2022 19:41:10
Yes ed014 I considered all aspects and like you I have no idea if we were in for him, if he is even wanted or not, just not worth keep banging on about him and just speculating and moaning.

10 Jun 2022 19:41:56
Ed014 I give you better at the moment but hardly bigger is it!

{Ed014's Note - it’s not about cash or a run down old stadium though is it, it’s about trophies and football.

10 Jun 2022 19:45:06
Spenno, I do disregard 99.9 % of speculation, it’s not worth concerning yourself with giving it time and energy, because the clue is in the name…speculation! That’s sells newspapers and gets clicks, everyone loves to attached big named clubs and names to anything, I only believe it when they actually walk on the pitch having signed.
So don’t lose no sleep over who maybe coming or going, same as I don’t lose any sleep over what the club spends not my money!

10 Jun 2022 20:02:27
Ed014. Look at the official list of fan base for 2021 I think you will find it’s Madrid, Barca, United……. No I not counted them that would be impossible. but that’s the official figures…of course if it was Arsenal that would be easy for me to count!

{Ed014's Note - oh so it’s defo not football and titles but fans and money! ???

10 Jun 2022 21:32:04
So how far do you want to go back Ed 30 years? 40 50 or just the last 7 where they have won 1 more epl title than United?

{Ed014's Note - go back as long as you like Ken, how many Champions leagues is it. How many multiple titles.

Fans money and size of stadium is your lot mate.

You’ve had one decent manager, they’ve had a succession of them.

Bob Paisley being the best of the best in relation to top tier British managers.

10 Jun 2022 22:23:37
Ed you seem to forget that we could of dominated Europe in the 60’s but we’ll never know due to the Munich air disaster
How many Champions league have your lot won.

{Ed014's Note - ?‍♂️

10 Jun 2022 22:34:31
Highly doubt Nunez wants Liverpool based on titles in the 80s and because seems bigger in some aspects or smaller. They are playing better football, under a proven successful manager and competing for every single title. Maybe Nunez cares about that.

10 Jun 2022 22:53:51
Most league titles: Man Utd
Most FA cups: Arsenal
Most league cups: Liverpool
Most European Cups: Madrid
League and Cup Doubles: United and Arsenal
Treble: Man United

What ever you think about Liverpool and their history. They top the league cup list with one more trophy than City.

The greatest club has managed league and cup double in their entire history. Out of their 6 Champions league wins they managed to win the league twice at the same time.

Each to their own I suppose but they hardly jump out as best in class at anything.

11 Jun 2022 01:12:11
Some posts on here remind me of many Liverpool fans over the last 30 years. Not me though, I accepted that under fergie, you were one of the best teams in the world and head and shoulders ahead of Liverpool.
Ofcourse we could give you a good game on our day but we were many levels below you!

Even then I don't remember us being beaten 5-0 and 4-0 in the same season!

Face facts, as of now we are well clear of utd on every level and it's going to take you 2 years minimum to get close to fighting door the title.

Not sure you'd all have as many titles playing against THIS city team. Yes we have only won the league once under Klopp and were desperately unlucky not to have 3.

You didn't lose out on Nunez because you're owners or change of manager, or even that were in champs league and you're not.
He's coming to hopefully help win more titles for us ;)

11 Jun 2022 00:58:53
So United have had 1 decent manager. By that reckoning Arsenal have had none in their history.

{Ed014's Note - it’s amazing when the discussion is about Liverpool and United that some of you bitter clowns drag Arsenal into the conversation.

Does it make you feel better poppet? ?‍♂️

11 Jun 2022 07:47:36
Could you are not unlucky not to have 3 titles under klopp you were beaten by a better tea. With a better manager its as simple as that. Not luck. You were nearly good enough but not quite.
Good effort though all the same.

11 Jun 2022 10:20:58
What do you win for being unlucky? We lost the title on the last day a few times so we can add a few more on to ours as well.

1 good manager haha, wonder which one he means? Sir Matt might have something to say about that. What an ignorant thing to say.

11 Jun 2022 07:45:00
Ed014 who has won more domestic league titles between the 2 clubs?
More fa cups?
Yes Liverpool have won more cl and league cups.
There us nothing between them in terms of history and winning the major trophies.
If you think bop paisley was a better manager than fergi then your entitled to that opinion but I would disagree and I would think your opinion would on that would be very much in the minority.
Was matt Busby not a great manager ed014.

11 Jun 2022 08:27:45
Ed you bring Utd into everything.

{Ed014's Note - you do know this is the United page right? Tell me you’re not as stupid as that statement suggests! ?‍♂️

11 Jun 2022 09:16:55
Good post mumbles.
There is nothing between united and Liverpool In terms of major trophies won.
At the moment they are a better team but these things go in cycles. We were better in the 60s they were better in 70s and 80s we were better in 90s 00s.
I usually agree with ed014 but paisley better than fergie I don't see that at all.
I'm not sure what criteria he is using to make that judgement.
If its the same criteria he is using to justify his opinion that Liverpool is a bigger club i.e trophies won then why use a different criteria to judge the 2 managers.
As I say he is entitled to that view but I don't agree as good as paisley was.

11 Jun 2022 09:28:24
Ed14, without the default of resorting to name calling, who is the one decent manager? Busby or Ferguson? Anyway forget all the talk of which is bigger. Impossible to measure. Nunez is joining a great club and team in Liverpool.

{Ed014's Note - Ferguson clearly

11 Jun 2022 12:27:46
Ed014 in your opinion was matt Busby a great manager?

{Ed014's Note - I don’t look at Matt Busby as a great manager, no mate.

Great managers for me include, Ferguson, Paisley, Guardiola, Mourinho and Ancelotti.

11 Jun 2022 12:28:56
Dont do a shappy ed014 your better than that.

{Ed014's Note - as in?

11 Jun 2022 12:31:12
In fairness Blackpool I don't see ed014 bringing united stuff up on the other pages. ??
I'm assuming your post was being sarcastic?.

11 Jun 2022 12:40:55
To be fair imo when you go back that far In history in cl it was a smaller and easier trophy to win in the old format.
That is in no way looking to dismiss or dilute those successes. You can only play and win the format it was.
In fergies early years our cl teams were compromised by the rules on non British players. But he did under achieve in Europe winning 2 finals and losing 2 and a couple of semi was not a fantastic return but not too many managers have won more than 3 European cups.
I'd argue clough would also be in the mix as best ever British manager. He won 1 less EC than paisley. I think during paisley's reign Aston villa won a EC and Notts forest won 2 EC.

11 Jun 2022 13:07:45
You don't think Busby was a great manager?
The man built the pioneering British team in Europe.
Many of them were killed he came back from near death built a new team and won the trophy several league titles paved the way for English clubs in Europe.
If that's not greatness I don't know what is.
He was a pioneer and a great one.
Shankly was a great manager. The ajax manager name escapes me in the 70s was a great manager. I think klopp is a great manager.

11 Jun 2022 17:29:44
I think someone maybe needs to do some research on Sir Matt. Not great, deary me.
