I'm getting a little confused.
Do we want the manager backed?
Do we want to complain about having to settle for 3rd or 4thchoices.
Yet many of you complaining we are pursuing the managers 1st choice. A player who he sees as pivitol.
Fdj is his 1st choice by all accounts. He will need convincing.
I just want to understand if supporters are more concerned about what they want rather than what the manager wants.
Last time I checked there are no ex epl managers on here so do you all think you know better than eth?

Makes sense. Let the manager get the players he wants. I just hope we don't spend the summer messing around with transfers that are going nowhere. Just get the players in he wants and let him do his work.

I want ETH to target the players who will thrive in his system he wants to play. Whilst there is an opportunity to get FDJ then we need to make sure we do all we can if ETH sees him as pivotal to his system.
What I don’t want to happen is what has gone on previously and we end up just chasing him and September comes and he’s not with us. I would love for us to have most business tied up in time for the squad to have a good pre season together.

EtH needs to be backed. I think it was Carragher who said a manager is at his most powerful just when he starts a new job. Which I kind of agree with.
If the club have gone all out to get the manager then they should go all out to back him in his first window.
I don't think there is an issue with the club seemingly chasing FDJ.
He is a player who the manager has worked with previously.
He fits what the new manager wants in a midfieldr.
He is capable of playing many roles in midfield having previously played at CB for EtH at Ajax on occasions. He can be a deeplying playmaker, a box to box player or even play at No.10. Giving EtH more tactical flexibility with less need for multiple signings.
Plus given Barcelona's current financial plight, they could be willing to sell a player who the manager wants and is actually a regular in their team. As opposed to us normally signing big name flops or players over the hill from teams like Barcelona or Real Madrid.
He will need convincing, obviously. He's first choice for a young and exciting Barcelona side with a club legend as manager. They will play UCL football and challenge for the La Liga title next season.
Moving to a rainy Manchester playing in the Europa League and 2-3 years away from genuinely challenging for major honours.
However, if Barcelona are forced to sell then maybe the lure of his former manager and the guy who gave him his debut might be enough to get him to Old Trafford.
That said if Bayern Munich stumped up the cash as well then we will have a up hill battle on our hands. Fortunately no other clubs have a declared interest, at least yet.
Meaning we are in a one horse race for a player the selling club might be forced to cash in on.
I think we need to trust EtH and his judgement. If he think De Jong is the guy he needs, and he thinks he will give 100% for Manchester United and has the right attitude and mentality then let's back the manager and go for him.
I'd rather have FDJ the managers first choice than say Sander Berge from Sheffield United as 5th choice because he really wants to join United/ is more cost effective for the club.

Ken, its more like people not getting who they want. All they do is see a small youtube video of a player who has been linked to us and then that player is seen as the best player to have ever kicked a ball. I couldn't believe when many questioned SMS here.

We might be a difficult sell to one or two players but that's up to the manager to convince them. If he can then that hopefully shows he has a plan. So far from what we've seen and been told, Timber, De Jong and Nunez are the ones we're looking at first. Until they move elsewhere or we sign others in their place, let them process run out.
It's the 3rd June. I know we'd like to have names confirmed but it's going to be such a hectic few months behind the scenes. Who ever Ten Hag identifies, they're the men we need.

Support the new manager by buying his first choice players. Give him what Mourinho didn’t get. However don’t get stung by players who are just trying to get a new contract and using us (our naivety when Moyes arrived) Don’t buy 4th choice Fred’s. Don’t push the manager to accept failed players out on loan back as potential first team to save a few quid ( see reports about Andreas Pereira- have we not learned? )
Sit back and see what happens.

Agree with you fully ken. That Fdj happens to be a star player I guess makes people think we're making the same mistake as pretty much every year in the Ed Woodward era in pursuing star names instead of glaring deficiencies in the squad. Here we happen to be going for a star player who addresses an obvious deficiency. It's new territory for a lot of us!

ETH needs backing proper backing. If it costs £200m so be it. The alternative is messing up trying to sign players on the cheap, possibly missing out on them or paying stupid amounts for third choices.
ETH needs business done ASAP so he gets max time with his first squad to put his ideas across and ensure they are properly fit.

That's my point Oakbark.
I would be very doubtful that they can get fdj out of Barcelona but if there is a chance and the manager wants him then they are right to try to see if they can get a deal done.
I'm sure the manager will put a timeframe on it and if they can't get a straight answer move on.
A couple have said above we have been caught like that in the past. The only way that is acceptable is if the manager says fdj or nobody.
Of course these media led days this could be Barcelona trying to whip up interest from others and not united led who knows.
Sms is a very good player I've no idea if both sms and fdj are wanted or just one of them.
It's going to be a long summer waiting for the ins and outs to be finalised before we can look forward to the football starting.

Eth will hopefully be buying players to fit his system. For the past 9 years, we've been buying players with individual skills but no idea what system they need to play.
As I said previously, I don't rate FDJ, but if ETH needs him to fit his system, then the club has to do whatever they can to bring him in.
