If interested in taking a closer look at James Garner, tonight Forest play Sheffield in the 2nd leg of the play offs with Forest at home and a goal up. Forest have done unbelievably well this year and just might be in the PL next season, and Garner has been a huge part of that. I'll be cheering them on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Watched the game to second period of ET so far and sorry but I am not seeing a player who has taken the game by the scruff. Looks solid positionally, makes it difficult for opposition in those areas, delivers a reasonable set piece, does a job. I can’t see a player who is top of premier league standard. We all want our own to be the answer, not seeing anything special in Garner, just a decent player.

Agree with Red Man, albeit I’m judging him on one game that I’ve seen him for a full match.

Completely agree Red Man. In fact, I thought Norwood had a good game for SU as did gibbs-white who is on loan from Wolves.
For Forest, samba the gk and Spence showed quality.
Re Garner, there were three occasions when the ball came to him in a frantic second half, he had time to control and pass the ball, but on every occasion, he just booted or headed the ball aimlessly. I know he's had good games, but over the two playoff games, he was disappointing.

AAA
Sounds like he'd fit in perfectly with the rest of our midfield thrn.

I hope forest get promoted and buy him for 20m.
Good player imo but not a very good player.
He will I'm sure get an opportunity to impress eth in pre season I have my doubts as to whether he will make the hedda grade.
He has been a relatively late developer so there maybe more improvement. I think he will have a good career without ever reaching great heights but I'm only basing that opinion having seen him play half a dozen games for forest.

Agree with all of the above. In Garner's defence though, the game was barely in the midfield area, with both sets of defenders booting it up to the forwards. The quality of actual football was so poor, but the passion and effort put in by both teams was unlike anything I've seen from the pretenders in our club in a long time.

Agree with all points above: he seemed really tidy with few misplaced passes plus a few moments of skill that set him apart but didn’t stand out and seemed quite slight in comparison to other bruisers on the pitch.

Maybe he can fill out a bit more and be one more imposing - loan to premiership side best thing for him for a year, not ready for United first team yet.

I think he's one who could step up, how far he could get I think is still unclear.

In a perfect world Forest will get promoted and he can spend another year on loan there in a team he is settled in playing at the EPL level and we can get a better look at him at that standard.

W16wes, I like Garner's attitude and determination, but has he the quality to be a top midfielder? Not in my opinion. You watch Rice 3 years ago, and he looked so mature and accomplished. I don't see that in Garner.
We don't need more average players, we need top quality or players who show promise to be top quality.
