Did anyone watch how Garner played tonight?

Agree0 Disagree0

04 May 2022 07:32:39
No shappy will post his stats I'm sure. You can't play Swansea every week.

04 May 2022 07:40:48
Come on ken, the lad deserves his chance with the rubbish we've been served up this season.

04 May 2022 09:08:52
Garner has been an integral cog in Nottingham's push towards promotion.
He plays progressive passes which is something Fred and McT lacks.
His set pieces have always been a threat.
Hopefully he gets enough opportunities at United to see his progress.

04 May 2022 10:06:27
Red whiskey he will get his chance to impress. But you will find out soon enough he is no better than mctom.
OK squad player but not the answer.
He has done well at forest in his 2 loan spells in the championship.
He is quite some way off epl standard at the moment but he could adapt and play 10 games a year for us just like jesse.

04 May 2022 10:46:14
From the reports that I have read and chats I have had with Forest fans I know Garner has been been one of the key players this season and important since the new manager came in. They would like to keep him and I think there would will be strong pull for this if they win promotion, will be interesting to see whether EtH sees his development as being better staying there or comeing in as squad player.
If he comes back Garner should be viewed as squad player who can fit in when our main midfielders need rest or cup games and he may develop and become more of a first 11 player. Garner has PL potential but as commented by my Forrest friends he will need time to work out if that is the top end that we need (Carrick type) or whether he ultimately will be a sub for us/ starter for lower end PL team.

04 May 2022 11:24:58
He does not play a Carrick type role for them it's a bad comparison. He is playing as the first press in midfield not the holding role.
Nevertheless he will get a chance in pre season unless forest make us a good offer I guess.

04 May 2022 12:08:23
He will likely have a better midfield to play in at forest lol.

04 May 2022 12:30:05
Sorry i agree with Ken, decent player but no better than what we already have.

04 May 2022 13:26:44
Tom Cleverly Mark II.

04 May 2022 16:24:57
With pogba and matic leaving I see no reason why he can't become a useful squad player. He may kick on he may stay as just that, a squad player but I agree he isn't the answer to the midfield issues.

04 May 2022 14:17:35
Ed014 has mentioned this before. Lauding guys before they have achieved anything is nonsensical.
Our past is lurkers with the next big thing only for them to under achieve on unrealistic expectations.
Junazzi macheda Wilson keane rash Greenwood cleverly welbeck and on and on and on.
Jesus when ole was our manager people rembered him as a top class player and not a perennial substitute that was never really 1st choice until he coveted injuries
Give me oshea butt Phil neville before any of these guys.
Best not to say how great sometime someone is until they prove it imo.

04 May 2022 18:08:58
Yes Ken ??.

04 May 2022 20:24:09
Interesting comments all of you but what I wanted to know was how he played last night in a crucial game. Did he help dictate play or did he freeze. I know it's only one game but we need players who can rise to the big occasion not just do it in the less pressured games.

05 May 2022 10:11:24
From what i seen he didn't do much.

05 May 2022 13:38:57
Salford,

To answer the question rather than change the subject to slag off a club legend because you hate him I will say it was definitely one of his poorer games the other night, in fact the only poor game I have seen him have this season, but forest were disappointing in general. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do for us next season, I think he could be a good squad player, has some very good attributes. A number of players have performed well in the championship and then proved to be top players in the premier league but others have faded so it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

05 May 2022 14:25:28
How many forest games have you watched the 90 mins this season. I've seen 4 full games I've seen him play OK 3 times and play well once.
Not going to be in our team next season that's for sure probably won't even be available to the manager.

05 May 2022 22:57:16
I remember watching Beckham playing for Preston and he didn't seem to be amazing but look at how he developed. Garner though plays in a really important position in which we currently lack a top player. I really want Utd to blood the youngsters but we cannot afford to make mistakes with our midfield.

{Ed007's Note - Ken is bang on. 12 years I've read about all these young potential superstars Utd had and everyone of them turned out dugmeat.

05 May 2022 23:13:31
Jeez what level of salty is this.

06 May 2022 11:02:51
I don't remember anyone saying Garner should be first choice for United next season?

I think he's a talented lad with potential, how much remains to be seen.

Yet his performances for Forest combined with us losing several players in midfield this summer means that he should definitely be given a chance next season (unless Forest get promoted as a year in the EPL playing most weeks for a team he's settled in would be far better for him) .

He should be given a chance, he's more technically gifted than McTominay and Fred, can he step up? Well we'll never know unless he's given a chance.

06 May 2022 14:07:32
Shappy - on what grounds is Garner technically more gifted than Mctominay and Fred?
He's been operating in a division below against poorer opposition.
Absolute rubbish!

06 May 2022 15:11:52
Sim, Garner has a better first touch, better passing, better understanding of space and position.

He doesn't stand behind an opposition player when his team have the ball.

He doesn't have a loose first touch meaning the opposition press him knowing they are likely to win the ball.

He can accurately pass over a greater distance than 10 yards.

He doesn't wander off up field and end up the wrong side of the ball when attacks break down.

He is better at many of the basics that Fred and McTominay struggle at.

That has nothing to do with the level of opposition and everything to do with a players individual technical level.

Can Garner perform at the level we need? Who knows, no one until he is given the chance.

As for players stepping up from the Championship I think you'll find that many very good players have learned their trade in England's second tier.

Mason Mount, Recee James, Bale, Walcott, Ramsey etc have all done well in the Championship before going on to playing well in the EPL.

Personally I don't think there is a league anywhere in the world that is better for preparing players for the EPL than the Championship.

06 May 2022 16:20:38
He will be given a chance shappy (I assume) nobody has said he won't be.
There is a list as long for players that have played in championship and not made the step up when required so your list is pointless.
He has done well at forest for the most part.
He will get a chance he might be a squad player he might start 10 games next season if he is lucky. It's a huge step up you see it regularly teams full of players that do well in that league getting relegated within 1 or 2 years because the gulf in class is huge. But the excelled in the championship.
You posted his stats from Swansea game why not post his stats from the other night. It just seems a bit like sing when your winning. That's your style though?.

06 May 2022 18:45:03
It's on Garner to force his way in the match day squad. I don't know if he will make it or not but this next season under a new manager is his chance.

If I were him I would be soaking up ETH style over the summer and learning my role and then turning up in great shape to pre season. I would have been working on the skills I know he will be requiring from his CM next season with the intent to blow him away at the start of per season training and force my way into the team.

I dunno bout Garner and his makeup but once I had a rest straight after the season I would be working harder than ever before if I were him. I would be wanting to show him that I was thw answer to the Midfield problem.
