I see some moaning about RR, however, let's have some perspective.

Three years of a disjointed approach where we spent £420m yet still don't have a central midfield. We had no structure to our play, relying on individuals to do some magic or use counter attack pace. We haven't controlled games for years. You cannot win consistently like that and that is what we saw. A new interim manager, who was appointed far too late, was literally thrown in with little time to train the team.

When any manager goes into an existing team environment they cannot just totally rip everything up, they have to get to know all the people and the issues. They need to listen and make changes.

RR will implement a structure where it can be repeated, handed on to the next manager to build on. The mess we were in, the mix of uncoordinated player purchases means it's tough to establish a set structure, especially if we don't add any players this window.

RR is starting to set a structure with what he has, what he learns will be vital in his consultancy role. We all need to have patience, this is a structural change to the club and the team, it needs to be. It gives us time to line up the next manager and they come into a much better structured team with RR advising on restructuring the club understanding the issues.

It has been said we still have players from 5 different managers to knit together, we also still have coaches from previous regimes, which cannot be helping RR. What is Phelan doing still there? What is Fletcher doing as Technical Director, when RR has far more knowledge and experience. However, why do we still have a set piece expert that was employed to help the previous managers shortfalls? We look weak at defending set pierces, we don't look like scoring from them and there is little invention. It isn't just some players that need clearing out in summer,

Top post Red Man. Totally agree.

Great Post redman.
He is getting to grips with the dynamics within the group. This takes time.
Fantastic management imo to put the martial thing to bed so quickly with a minimum of fuss. A prolonged argument there would have done nothing for the group as a whole.
It will be a bumpy ride till seasons end and for sure.

Red Man, fletcher seems to be playing a big role on the bench with Ralf- by all accounts he’s a good football man and I hope he’s learning as much as he can from Ralf.

I think we will only see the value of RR when he takes up his consultancy role. Can he walk the walk?

I refer again to an interview he did in 2019 when he was very critical of UTD post SAF, saying if you can't buy the right players then don't buy the wrong players, and a club has to have a vision of where it wants to go. He also said UTD were not selling players on as quickly as they should meaning the squad is unbalanced. too many players you don't want at the club.

I also think on a mam management interim basis he has to tread lightly keep the players onside to get top 4 and maybe back down a little on some issues.
However if he is as good at his job as some say then once the season finishes no matter if we are 4th or 6th I think he will sit the new manager down and say players x y and z are rotten apples get rid. This player and this player are rubbish, this player has reached his full poential don't expect much from him. this player is bone idle get rid etc etc . We might see a tougher RR in close season.

We are finally at the denouement of the Ferguson era. I think the board, which has until this season still been paying homage to his myth, believing that if only they invest in this or that star, it will all come right in the end, has finally come to its senses. The club's renown is based upon success on the field and in the long term that success has to be maintained if the business model is going to continue to generate excess revenues both from sponsorship and participation in European competition.

Woodward's reign will be looked upon as an absolute medium to long term failure. C.V. hasn't helped the numbers but as he departs United's stock price is marginally above its 10 year low. He exploited the club's name to maximize marketing revenues but in the end failed to take care of the supporting structure. The advantage he inherited has all but disappeared.

We don't know what the future holds, but at least it looks like RR's influence is starting to look positive from both a team and individual player perspective (as if they are not always dependent on each other) . From this position of squandered opportunity under Woodward the road back will be much tougher.

Great post red man. I hope you are right. Ralf is a good coach and a sensible man. I just hope that the club are willing to let him do what needs to be done.

I don't have much faith in those that make the decisions though. I hope I'm wrong.

Great post Red Man, totally agree with everything you've said.

The real key will be picking the right man to follow Ralf in the summer.

Great post, RedMan. Thr ground work that RR is doing now will be with hi when he takes uo the consultancy role.

Top post Redman.
Atleast RR is someone who knows exactly what he is doing.

We won't be at the denouement of the Alex Ferguson era until he stops having a say in decisions at the club.
