I'm not sure who Graeme Bailey is but according to him RR has told the overlords that shaw AWB and slabhead aren't good enough and will need replacing as we move forward. If true I can't say that I disagree, however with their values and wages they won't be easy to move and we will no doubt overvalue them in the market. Very interesting!

Agree0 Disagree0

Theres a few more that shpuld be on that list.

18 Jan 2022 22:26:42
So Tim, do you think MU will ship out these players who cost more than the GDP of a small economy such as the Solomon Islands on Raif’s recommendation.

Below there are a number of assertions that Ralf has been brought in “as a football man” to restructure the club in his consulting capacity.

If the MU hierarchy don’t particularly like the idea of shipping out 3 assets, two of which have not yet been fully amortised, is that not supporting RR or does maybe the commercial side of the business become more important?

18 Jan 2022 23:09:47
Maze. WTF. Its as clear as the nose on your face that AWB and slabhead are not good enough. The economy of a small island aside. The economy side is f all when the so called defence ships goals for fun.

18 Jan 2022 23:55:10
There could be up to half a dozen players leaving over the next two windows, whether out of contract, unhappy, not required etc. I don’t think 3/ 4 of the back line (exc. Varane) is good enough but you can’t sell everybody. A new centre back like Kounde wouldn’t be a surprise in summer.

EnglishStan - although your comments profoundly can be portrayed as obtuse, Maze shall respond.

Has Maze indicated that AWB and/ or “slabhead” (assume HM) are good enough? Please elaborate. In fact if you look back not so long ago the sun shone out of AWB’s rear according to some on here.

The simple fact is that there are broader considerations that have to be taken into account. Commentary about the economy side means “f all” says it all about your witless understanding. Makes it difficult for Maze to continue confabulating with you.

Spenno - glad to see you have taken time away from the xbox to comment. Is that the answer, chuck another fat load of cash to entice a player into signing a long term deal to sort out the shortcomings? Very crass.

English players are usually over hyped.
Maguire especially has set the club back.
The one who scouted him and gave sign off for 80 million should be sacked.

19 Jan 2022 08:24:24
To answer the question maze, no I don’t think we will mainly for the reasons you outlined…on the other hand do I think we should get rid of them and a few others over the next few windows? YES.

The whole club is having to balance everything whilst we do not know who the new manager will be, will they have a lot of power over transfers or will we move to more continental style of them being just coaches but in the style of the ones making the decisions. The job as I see it for RR is 3 fold if we believe that the club are comitting to him in a consultancy role past this year. Firstly get us to the end of the season and from a commercial point of view into the top 4, this is for CL next season and to help either get new players in or retain the ones we have (if that is what they want) . Secondly, utilise his knowledge of players outside of the UK to identify the right ones and at the right time. Young up and coming players approaching peak years. This again benefits the playing side of things as well as the commercial side as we will be purchasing a cheaper asset that will grow (as much as i hate to say it, ala Liverpool since Klopp has been in post) . Thirdly, identify the players that are not up to the riggers of playing the style of play that we will be doing over the next phase of the clubs development. Once he has done this the power brokers responsibilities is to secure the best deals possible for the club (difficult considering the wages players are on) or work to get loan deals for these players to increase their value playing whilst offsettig at least part of their wages.

Fair enough Tim. Let’s play devils advocate. Who do you suppose replaces them?

Lets say you have a 100m transfer budget. You lose Pogba, Lingard Cavani and Mata for free.

Martial and VdB go on loan - as no one is going to pay a substantial fee plus their wages. Maze is generous so assume their wages are picked up by the respective principal club.

You are still accruing for substantial expenses - including monster wages for Rashford, De Gea, Ronaldo and co.

You are paying sizeable wages for the new manager (plus a fee potentially) and his consultant general Ralf. You have also paid top dollar to bring in a back room team and are still paying up wages on your last managerial termination.

You are in the middle of an ongoing C.V. that is a risk to company revenue. Cash is cheap to lend but to be safe you are trying to conserve in case a new variant wipes out the 22/ 23 season.

So let's assume you get 60m for the 3 of them (on current form that’s being generous) . The 60m helps pay down their contacts inclusive of any other variables.

So who do you replace HM, LS and AWB with whilst improving other areas of the squad noting the environment?

Anyone think we are in a never-ending loop:

New manager, buy a load of players, declare players will take us to next step, players fail to deliver, players labelled deadwood, manager sacked, players sold at a loss, new players bought.

We have seen more teams built and dismantled in the last 10 years than the whole 26 years of Fergie's tenure.

19 Jan 2022 10:10:44
Not sure on values but I’d promote laird and look at lamptey to replace AWB. For maguire maybe the likes of fofana, zagadou, kounde etc. personally I’d keep shaw and bring in someone else to replace telles. Players like Haidara, Zakaria, ndidi etc would all improve us greatly in midfield. Obviously price is an issue especially when buying from other English clubs, that’s where our scouting needs to expand and improve so we can identify the players earlier.

Tim, Mazraoui is an obvious target at RB. Great technique, hard working and good nothing going forward and defending. Plus he's available on a free transfer. He's 24, 25 in November so is a great age, and should just be approaching his peak and would enable Laird a couple of years as understudy without pressure.

As for CB, I'd be tempted to go and try and get Rudiger on a free also. While he is probably at his best in a back three he is still much better than what we have bar Varane. Saying that I think he'd work well with Varane, knows the league and is a leader. Also at 29 will offer a top class player for a few years so as to not totally block Mengi's path into the first team.

Midfield I really like Boubacar Kamara, he's a similar player to Declan Rice but available at a fraction of the cost, maybe free in the summer.

19 Jan 2022 11:00:50
Mr Bailey could just be making that up but if not I wonder who at the club would have an interest in leaking something like that to undermine Rangnick?

19 Jan 2022 12:54:14
Maze asking the wrong questions. If they are not good enough sooner or later they will go. And if we can't buy three top class defenders then we will buy one and the others will be some cheaper options like Mazraoui.
In any case they must go so we will have space to make additions.

19 Jan 2022 13:12:52
Herrera (now that’s a player that should have been kept) . Why are those the wrong questions? In actual fact that is the sort of conversations that the big boys will be having.

Look at the fantasy above Rudiger on a ‘free’ these players are not ‘free’. The player and their advisors snap up a huge fee and their wages/ demands are obscene.

Above there is mention of Rice ($$$$$), Kounde ($$$$), Haidara ($$$$), Ndidi ($$$$$) . This is just fantasy.

As for Mazouri being “the obvious choice at RB”. How did the last few signings from the Eredivisie fair?

19 Jan 2022 13:19:59
Shappy, I think Rudiger has been one of the top CBs in the league this year. He’s imposing and great at coming forward. Yet I just can’t see him staying in England, or certainly switching Chelsea for Utd. It has PSG / Real all over it?

19 Jan 2022 13:50:19
Maze, while I agree these players aren't technically "free" due to the signing on fees.

You miss the point that they tend to be far cheaper than signing players who have a contract at another club.

While we might not be in for Mbappe this summer, it's fairly obvious that if he had 2 years left on his contract he would cost upwards of 100m, possibly close to 200m. I mean PSG paid €180 for him, I don't think his value has dropped at all since then.

While Real Madrid will pay his agent a hefty fee, and his wages would be higher due to the signing on fee. The reality is if you wanted to buy him you'd still be paying a hefty agents fee and high wages. I doubt the additional wages and agents fees come close to what his transfer fee would have been.

Therefore signing players on Bosman deals is much cheaper and a sensible route to consider if you need/ want to make multiple signings to rebuild a squad.

Mazraoui is a good option, you could argue that we shouldn't sign Lamptey, Reece James or TAA from EPL teams because look how AWB turned out. It's a frankly ridiculous arguement.

Many great players past and present started their careers in the Eredivisie, including former United greats such as Stam, RvN, VDS and RvP.

Some signings work, others don't. You can't apply sweeping generalisations from them as it misses out all context and the nuances that impact every signing.

19 Jan 2022 13:52:11
Spenno, I doubt we'd be able to tempt him as well. It's questionable whether we'll even be a UCL side next season. While Rudiger will have offers from Spain, Italy, Germany and France as well as possibly other options beyond Chelsea in the EPL.

But it certainly doesn't hurt having a go for him, you never know what might happen.

19 Jan 2022 13:52:47
Ofcourse they have big wages, but big wages have the three that depart too. So this changes nothing.
And i don't suggest Mazraoui. I only say that there are cheaper options out there. If we are speak about Harry Maguire (something i say from day one) he is 10 million player at best so i would take a "random" and cheap player with a bit of pace any day of the week. Its not like we must throw 300 millions for their replacements. Take 60-70 million from them, add some more and you will be fine.
