Over the years I have seen many clubs in a similar position MU are in now with players on large contracts . Clubs in the past like Blackburn, Leeds, Man City Liverpool and Chelsea all have had players earning large salaries but not wanted by new managers etc.
Consequently many went out on loan with parent clubs paying part of salary .
MU possibly have several players hanging onto large salaries presented to them by the club in wild expectation that an extra years contract will bring in some transfer funds. This is poor management and needs to stop otherwise we are on a continuous spiral downwards restricting young players to break into the squad.

Martial is a fine example of this problem now on a reported £250k per week and worth arguably £30m . No club is going to match this and obviously RR and Martial do not see eye to eye following different claims by both.

My feeling it will take minimum two seasons to clear out with a estimated loss of greater then £100m in the transfer market with players running down contracts.

The new CEO, have I have indicated in the past, as a massive job on his hands, more so then when Ed Woodward took over .
The present team is in truth a 5th or 6th place premier standard and needs approx £200m spending in key areas to raise us to challenging the top positions.
As a gauge to the standard ask yourself how many of present MU players would be automatic choice in MC, Liverpool or Chelsea team. Even as a squad player I would suggest only possibly four or five would make it .
Not a good situation but I do think RR as a strong backbone and will start where possible to weed out if he is allowed?

Agree0 Disagree0

The clear out certainly won't happen overnight, and will take a minimum of 2 more like 3 summer windows.

For me the key is getting the ones out with the wrong attitude first and as quickly as possible. A bad attitude in the dressing room can grow like a cancer. I'd rather have a squad full of players working hard and giving 100% but not actually good enough than have half a dozen players who are good enough but have terrible attitudes.

For me the key is signing players who are technically secure in posession. Too many of our players can't even control the ball properly and make basic 5 yard passes (cough Fred cough) .

2-0 up yesterday if we had players who could just keep the ball and monopolise posession we would have won comfortably and City/ Liverpool would have done that.

How do we feel now about the transfer policy of ole which was lauded by many.
New contracts for
Jones martial bailly mata pereira Shaw mata matic under his leadership. On contracts miles above their worth or contribution
Not selling pogba when he wanted to leave.
Signing
Ighalo ronaldo and cavani James awb maguire telles varane and Bruno amad and pellistrini sancho with a spend of about 400/ 500 million.
Put us back years.
He fooled many for a long time.
We need to take our medicine and put our hopes in a new coach and ceo who have a heel of a job in front of them clearing up a mess created by their predecessors.

16 Jan 2022 12:46:29
I genuinely don't think any of the utd players would get into Liverpool 1st 11. Rushford a few years ago maybe, but he's lost his way.

16 Jan 2022 13:04:44
Woodwards fault for misguided business decision to try to protect value of players by awarding them new contracts.

A football man/ CEO would’ve been more shrewd in squad management and allowed players to go at same time as bringing in younger players who would appreciate in value.

Will take a few seasons to sort it all out - big reset needed (maybe why RR brought in and not just a football manager)

16 Jan 2022 14:01:48
Its 2019 all over again, fortunately Inter took most of the unwanted then.

We have been building a team of individuals for many years now, maybe its time to focus on individuals who can play as a team.

16 Jan 2022 16:19:37
Typical Liverpool tinted post max. Bruno is a better attacking midfielder than any of Liverpools. Fabinho is the only midfielder I'd take now from Liverpool. Any one of our strikers I'd take over Firminio and I'd take an in form Rashford over Mane. Liverpool have a good defence but Virgil looks like he's lost a yard of pace and he's lost agility after his injury and which I don't think will come back. Robertson has a good engine that is it. He's looked average but energetic for the last 2 seasons. Allison looks a bit flappy sometimes and always looks like he's got a mistake in him. I don't see any great youth players in the Liverpool team coming through. They can be built up with confidence by klopp but they from what I've seen they look average at best.

{Ed0666's Note - Can you reply back with your drug dealers phone number please because he clearly has industrial strength merchandise.

16 Jan 2022 16:47:55
Its not that I wouldn't take anyone from Liverpool, I'd take Klopp I'm a heartbeat and I wish Manchester did a better job to get him from Dortmund when they had the chance.

He's not a tactical genius and has 1 real way of playing, make sure you get the 1st goal to just press and counter and quick transition 433 to 235 and so on. He sends players out consistently hungry, fighting and confident. Something no one has achieved at United since Ferguson.

I don't think Liverpool would be the team they are without him and I'm not sure there will be a good enough replacement when his cycle comes to an end. Liverpool have been lucky to have him for these last few years.

{Ed014's Note - you really do need to stop taking that shit!

16 Jan 2022 16:36:39
Yeah no worries Ed. I'm obviously well wide of the mark because I'm smoking catnip all day every day. I forgot that all Manchester United players are sh*t and all Liverpool players are the best in the world in their given position, no need to reply again to any Liverpool posters who come here.

{Ed0666's Note - OK mate let’s play your tedious little game.
Thiago has had bowel movements with more quality than Bruno. Jordan Henderson could registered disabled and still out perform any of your midfield.
As for the RashFord & Mane comparison just look at the library of work of both players and the milestones they’ve achieved. Mane is half the player he used to be and most people would still choose him over RashFord even now.
As for the kids yes you could be right there is no greatness coming to the fore but we have high hopes for Harvey & our number 2 keeper who aren’t bad wouldn’t you agree?
By the way talking about keepers yes Ali has been fallible of late and not his usual majestic self but even with his infallibility he’s still the best keeper in the world. What does that say about the man’s talent.
Please reply back with tangible evidence and match examples where Virgil has lost pace and agility.
As for your slight towards Robbo the guy is the best LWB on the planet with stats to prove it and is more than a ‘decent engine’

You’d better go to bed now mate as your parents are about to turn off your internet privileges any second. Big day at school for you tommorow mate your gonna learn how to stop talking bollocks.

16 Jan 2022 17:54:52
Nice kittle personal insult at the end thanks Ed. Don't think I made any remarks about you personally. I'm allowed an opinion on Virgil based on what I have seen of him lately which is that he looks slower, time will tell. I don't know how you expect me to supply evidence on Virgil. I'll just base my opinion on what I see. I don't see any evidence in your post? Just the usual best player in the world stuff. I'd take Ederson over Allison as the best keeper in the Premier league. To say Allison is the best in the world is just a Liverpool fans opinion, Oblak? . Robertson the best LB in the world? Come on, there is a big wide world beyond the premier league, Davies, Hernandez, Alaba without thinking too much about it. Things is a great player. But he's past his best, would most of the time prefer to play a 10 yard no look pass than the right pass. More fur coat and no knickers. Is thiago even an attacking midfielder now? Don't think he ever has been.

{Ed0666's Note - Would you say Thiago is a defensive midfielder? And we haven’t lost a game while Thiago has played for us (or very few) so clearly his passes must be ok. You cite the examples of Hernandez, Alaba and Davies, Robbo tops them all. Alison Becker is a better all round keeper than Oblak, Oblak’s distribution is not on the same level as Ali & not as assured as playing it out from the back. Eder won over Ali? That’s your prerogative. So let’s talk about Virgil based on what you have seen tell me which particular games you saw in which you think he’s lost pace and agility. I think he’s not been his imperial best since his injury but nothing to suggest lost agility or pace he’s just easing back into greatness.

16 Jan 2022 18:34:11
I'd take Becker or Ederson over De Gea any day. They're both modern goalies who provide an extra player, helping the team ahead of them compress the field, reducing the area in which the opponents have to work their way out of defence. De Gea may be the better shot stopper but B&E help create a situation where there are far fewer opportunities to shoot.

Other than that it's hard to know how any player would look in a different team, but it seems to me that far too many United players have a poor first touch, work rate, tactical understanding, or passing ability. Would that improve in a team where they actually knew what the supposed to be doing? Possibly. But maybe not. Fundamentals are fundamentals. United's squad seem to have been coached for the quick breakaway and not much else from an attacking point of view.

16 Jan 2022 19:29:53
Ok Ed fair enough about goalkeepers but imo I'd generally think about the best goalkeepers purely for their ability to concede as few goals as possible and make as few mistakes as possible. I couldn't tell which games I've watched virgil but one was definitely about 2-3 weeks ago. He was wandering in a way that was cutting corners, maybe over casual, but he is definitely shorter of speed which is what he would normally rely on to get himself out of trouble. Imo I don't think the speed is going to come back. The evidence is all maybe in just looking at the premier league alone Man City and Chelsea have both conceded less goals than Liverpool. So if you have the best Keeper in the world, best LB in the world, best attacking RB in the world (certainly not the best RB in even the premier league defensively), the best CB in the world in Virgil, The best CDM in the world in Fabinho, (None of these are my opinion on best players in the world as I don't believe in that stand out player in the world in their position is finite bollocks based on someone's opinion), then either they are all under performing in the Premier league, Maybe not the best in the world or maybe not even the best in the Premier league. Apart from maybe Robertson I'd take on current form and if fit Ederson, Robertson, Dias, Silva or Rudiger and Reece James, maybe Virgil or Laporte and I'd take Kante for a CDM. The league doesn't lie Ed but people's perspectives do. Notice I didn't include any United players as I think I'm being honest. I don't know what it is with Liverpool fans and having to justify best player in the world tags for their players but it's very over indulgent durge.

16 Jan 2022 22:25:42
I wasn't trying to justify the liverpool players with the world's best tag, but genuinely looking at the 1st 11 of each team no one from utd would get in.
I agree mane and Bobby are having off season, but they would still walk into 18 of the teams in the league right now easily. We have argue ly the best keeper in world, I like de gea, he's your best player by far.
Defence wise, none of your players would get into ours.
Minefield same really. It is attack were Bobby or mane could be shifted. Out of all of them I would have cavani, rashford from 3 years ago, but whether it's bad coaching or his other qork he does, but he's gone crap.

17 Jan 2022 08:06:06
Liverpool have been coached really well, have a clear system and know what their jobs are. This enables players to come in or out and still produce results.

Klopp has bought well so, with the system plus the first 11 players, they are top notch. Their only weakness is squad depth beyond first 11.

However, it’s the system, the coaching and the manager that we must strive for - then everything will fall into place after a few seasons.

17 Jan 2022 08:14:29
I agree supasub in a way
Vvd has looked a little different shall we say this season! Still absolutely brilliant but a few performances have been poor! He is human after all!

16 Jan 2022 20:03:21
Ed you have no chance of supasub stopong talking rubbish.

17 Jan 2022 00:24:16
Madmax and supa and ed0666.
Mostly any player is only as good as 1. His team mates around him.
2. The way he suits the system.
3. His ability to stay fit.
4. Consistency and momentum.
The Liverpool players have had that for 3 or 4 seasons and have been winning or thereabouts for most of that time.
As a result when all together they all look world class in a really well oiled machine.
But a truly world class player imo is one that would be standout in any system under any coach with any team mates. Or go to any team and be a real standout.
I think Liverpool have 2 or 3 of this elite level right now that would dramatically improve any team.
But the also have players like Robertson and mane and Bobby who have been top class all together but I don't think would be a game changer for most big teams.
I don't mean that as a slight on any of those players we have seen it from our own dominant teams when players moved on like Yorke and Cole or kanchelskis Ince etc great in a great team but none pulled up trees unlike Beckham and rvn who were truly great players.
I think vvd salah and becker would get into any team and improve it dramatically. Most of the rest are great in their great team but I don't think they would be as good elsewhere.
That said I think Henderson has been fantastic and is only not in the elite group just because he is getting on but imo has been a great captain and leader that maintains standards and demands players meet expectations both on and off the pitch.
Great man managers make the whole of the team greater than the sum of its parts.
Great teams make good players look great. Great managers make good players play great.
Some players will be great in most circumstances.
All are equally as valuable when you get a bunch all together and it works.

17 Jan 2022 01:08:26
RR won't be allowed to do a thing, its a load of tosh from the club to get an interim because they are desperate. He will be made the next scapegoat.

The club is all about making money and will continue that way. No players that fit systems will be signed and we will still carry on buying names to keep advertisers happy its as simple as that.

Its a rotten club to the core from top to bottom. Only way we are getting out of this is if the club is sold, until then we can keep scapegoating the next man into mediocrity.

17 Jan 2022 11:39:28
Thanks for the nod Ken, looking at your post Ken = Boring. Beckham truly great player? Out of everyone you could pick. I don't understand how your post apples ro much if anything I've posted. And I talk rubbish?

17 Jan 2022 14:29:21
Beckham was a great player.

17 Jan 2022 14:47:18
I think he was angel. One of the best at what he did. Best crosser of a ball I've seen in 20 years.
