Utd have Cavani and they have Ronaldo, both are players who will stick it in tbe onion bag when they get the service.

I think signing Ronaldo was a mistake but now he's there, might as well maken the best of it.

So, what's the bsst way to give them service and get them playing as partnership?

I think they need service dfom thenwings.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pressed send too soon:

Service from the wings and clever balls theough the middle. This means full backs who can cross and midfielders who can pass. From the current sauad i'd play Dalot, Telles at full back with Bruno and (hold my nose) Pogba (when back frim injury in 4vweeks orso) in the attacking midfield roles with instructions to feed Ronaldo and Cavani. Matic can cover the back 4 so the full backs can get forward and McTominay can add energy in ths middle.

Its no way a long term solution but it might get some joy out of this season.

Agree and surely that's why Sancho was bought. But unless we have a strong defence and proper midfield the attack is never going to function properly.

Just ruminating on my own post; what was that game where Moyes got grief for Utd crossing something like 38 times in a game?

How many goals you reckon Cavani and CR7 would score off 38 crosses?

I think a lot of the unhappiness that is evident from so many of the 'creative' players in the side is down to this blasted formation and endless running they are now being expected to do. They've never had it this hard. All our creative players are woefully out of form and it can't be a coincidence.

Personally I would stick with Fernandes in the middle as there is no-one else who can do some of the things he does apart from Pogba, who has got one of those niggly injuries that players sometimes get during an entire transfer window.

On the left Elanga has tried to impose himself more than most in the minutes he gets and I think the time has come for him to start over Rash. Don't know what's up with the lad but if that was the body language and effort of a professional athlete trying their hardest then we're in trouble - it really was a shocker. Sancho on the right.

Up front I've been looking forward to seeing both Cavani and Ronaldo start. Two of the great strikers in world football, both in their twilight years, but it has yet to spark. Both are clinical on their day but like the original point of this thread suggests, it's meaningless if we're not getting the ball to them.

Better fullbacks is a different story altogether. None of ours walk into any of the top 4-5 sides in the Prem IMHO which is saying something. Fullbacks need to give so much in the modern game and ours are giving so little, especially on the right.

We only have one player even remotely in form, Scotty, who is only starting by default. Midfield needs a complete upgrade, hopefully one this window and one in summer. We know 3-4 are offski but there could be at least half a dozen big names departing in these two windows.

There is no proof that when you will give him chances he will score-at least not more than our own Greenwood.
Ronaldo has already lost around 10 big chances and he underperforming the expected goals. I think he scored 2 less than he should score based on chances he had.
When you are a one tricky pony, you must at least do excellent what you are supposed to be good at-but he doesn't.

I don't think it matters who you have up top. United have consistently shown themselves to be a team largely incapable of providing decent service. Too slow and inadequate teamwork. The game has moved on. We've been trying to build a team for 1992 not 2022.

14 Jan 2022 00:25:57
Good point Herrera, my approach means leaving out Greenwood who has been playing well recently, especially with his all round game.

Rotation must be the answer. Greenwood, Ronaldo and Cavani rotating. Thwy all know how to score, ergo if they have the ball enough in dangerous positions they will score plenty right? Ha ha!

Short term maybe MancMan. Long term i would go with Rashford Sancho Martial Meison Elanga Amad and maybe one more. That was the plan i think in the first place (British trio of Rashy Sancho Meison) . With Ralfs better training and approach all pf them will be physically better, really sharp and strong next year. So give them a chance together and let's see how good we can be. I would give all our budget at midfield and if we have a really strong midfield then we will fear none.

Our CM’s and Maguire are the issue. We can’t build from the back either through passing or by the CB bringing it up the pitch. Our midfield is devoid of creativity and can’t move the ball around efficiently. With the pace of the premier league you need to have aggression and fast ball movement central even against the weaker teams, we don’t have that. Fix those areas and we would be a lot stronger.

Martial is a pig of a footballer. Sooner he is out the better.

14 Jan 2022 12:18:10
Herrera, i do mean only for this season and i feel it is just making the best of a bad job.

It just seems pointless playing two proven penalty box goal scorers but not settling up to give them service.

14 Jan 2022 12:19:00
Ken, agreed about Martial.

14 Jan 2022 15:17:11
MancMan you are right and agree. But generally i am little bit annoyed destroying our front three to accommodate Ronaldo. That saying i was never a huge fan of Sancho nor Rashford (of the last two years) . But maybe they can click together and play good football. Then there is a better balance with them and are less predictable interchanging and playing with more pace dribling and sharpness.

Mancman: IIrc, the game you mentioned earlier with all the crossed was a 1-1 draw with Fulham. One of the most frustrating games in recent memory.
