ED001,

What do you think RR needs to do this transfer window. I was rather hoping to see a few ins/ out.

To stamp his authority, he needs to get rid if a few of the moaners.

{Ed001's Note - I have been thinking hard about this, to be honest it is such a big job I am not sure what he can do this window. I would say he has to move out at least a couple of the problems, Martial for definite, he has to go. The problem is that this is not a good time to sell with every club struggling financially due to the pandemic. So you need to be looking to offload players like Matic and Mata etc that you won't get much for either way. Then I would start looking at who is out of contract in the summer and look for a couple of bargains that can fill any gaps. Say Sule and Kessie, for example, as you do need a proper centre-back badly, Varane is just a faster Maguire, and some midfield presence. Other than that, I would say trim down the squad and give Rangnick time to work with the players left and see if he can get them playing. If not bring up some from the academy or back from loans.}

Apart from James Garner, who can we really bring back from loan?
Don't you think Ed Ralf should stop starting these 10 players that are creating issues.
If some of them are regulars and do not start the Villa game, they can easily be made out who they are.

{Ed001's Note - it is not that easy, 10 players is a lot and sometimes you only need to remove the ringleaders to fix an issue. It took Ferguson a lot of years to fix a similar problem when he took over, I am not sure that anyone can expect this fix to be done in one or two seasons.}

Thanks for the reply ED001. The club must get things right this time. They need to plan for the long term.

Writing this season off might not be a bad idea.

Realistically who would you buy this January for Utd?

{Ed001's Note - Kessie/Kamara and Sule. All out of contract in the summer. I don't think there are many other realistic options out there to be honest. Bissouma still has question marks hanging over him about his off field conduct and potential court action etc. Otherwise he would be the one to go for. Other than that, United look fine, it is just a lack of legs in midfield and a proper centre-half that you are desperately short of.}

Hi Ed001, is there much coming out about who the ring leaders are? I think Newcastle offer a decent opportunity to move a couple of players out quickly such as martial and lingard. The situation with Pogba needs a line drawn under it and he needs to be moved on for the sake of his career and for the club to move on. As you say Mata and matic could be moved out to make space and free up wages. Bailey unfortunately can’t stay fit, Jones has had issues for years so you can’t rely on those two to get you through a season.

Who do you think the club should look to for the CB?

{Ed001's Note - there is not a lot coming out about who the ringleaders are that is reliable, it seems that everyone is blaming everyone else.

As for centre-back, if it was outright choice of anyone, I would suggest Kounde would be the best suited to the Rangnick way.}

Interesting replies ed001- who do you think are the ringleaders you mention? I would guess PP name would crop up in an opinion pole but to be fair, I read a piece yesterday that would exonerate him somewhat which briefly pointed out that unlike auba, kane among others he has been a "model" pro by his actions. Personally and by their attitudes on the pitch, I would guess that bruno and ronaldo are the principal players who have influenced rash, greenwood and sancho, with the first being ridiculously low on confidence and output.

{Ed001's Note - I would suggest that Ronaldo is the problem personally. Professional as he is in terms of his individual attitude to training, he is not team-centric at all. Juve were very happy to offload him.}

The club won't bring rr in to then say oh its not working ralf, some players can't adapt, think this project won't work

Let him do what needs to be done if thst means some of the better players need to leave then so be it,

What we don't want to do is get on rr back he's here to sort the mess out.

This feels like we're in the middle of another rebuild unfortunately and it's likely that we are going to see some more dross before we see a lot of good.

Some of the squad turnover should be straightforward by the time the summer comes around with the likes of Pogba, Lingard, Cavani and Mata out of contract. That in itself should be a big saving in wages. Players like Martial, Donny and Henderson wanting to leave and who we should let leave on that basis. Plus those who we should be moving on like Matic and that leaves quite a lot of space for a few youngsters and a couple of quality signings to come in.

Kessie, Kamara, Zakaria, Sule, Rudiger and others all available as free agents too.

Hopefully Rangnick is given time and we don't have a lot of idiots who are calling for him to be sacked in February if we aren't winning for fun.

Sounds like the club went of piste to sign Ronaldo to appease fans and to boost the club's value/ image and have yet again just shat on their own doorstep.

Don’t buy into the rebuild stiff at all.

3-4 players out and 3-4 in who are used to this high intensity press and you’ll see changes.

For too long these players have coasted and will take them 3-6 months to adapt or leave.

Hi Ed001, Kounde looks a great player but I’d imagine hard to get in Jan. What are your thoughts on Axel-Zagadou?

{Ed001's Note - I am not a fan and he has knee issues. Dortmund would certainly be open to selling him though Ed002 tells me, but I fail to see why United would want him.}

06 Jan 2022 13:17:38
I think too Ronaldo is one of our main problems and i am very happy Ed001 agree because i hugely respect his opinion.

{Ed001's Note - thank you Herrera.}

06 Jan 2022 16:22:51
You are welcome Ed001. Have a happy new year.

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, you too!}

I don't mind going through another rebuild, if the rebuild is actually done right. I would take a season of shipping players out, a couple of of years of bringing in the right players, of blooding youth if at the end of it we had a team that could compete.

I agree oakbark.
