To nite I think is key to how the season is going to go for ragnick.

If he starts the players continuously under preforming then the only thing as a fan we can conclude from that is player power still rules.

Ole had his favourites and never dropped them ragnick has overseen very poor performances from Ronaldo rashford maguire fernandes in particular. If he continues to start these guys then he has no one to blame but himself.

I'd rather start with lads that give 100% every game and lose then continue to watch the unforgiveable lack of effort from the current starters.

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem is who does he play in their place?

Maguire will probably start, the other options are Varane coming back from an injury and was responsible for Newcastle's goal. Lindelof who has had breathing issues and might not be fit. Bailly who had left for the Afcon but has flown back, or Mengi. The reality is Maguire will probably start due to the limited other options.

Bruno I think is suspended, so shouldn't play at all.

Ronaldo will probably start as Rashford and Greenwood have been poor, while Cavani has struggled to be fit and might not have enough in the tank for 60 minutes plus. Meaning a role off the bench is probably more likely.

Rashford will probably start owing to the lack of form, injuries and suspensions to other players.

While a lot of our regular first teamers are struggling for form, the truth is we don't have top quality players in reserve pushing them for their spots.

Take out Maguire, Ronaldo, Rashford, Bruno, Greenwood, Fred and McTominay who have all struggled for form recently.

Add to that players like Lindelof, Varane, Pogba and Cavani who have been struggling for fitness then what would our team look like?

DDG, Dalot, Bailly, Mengi, Telles, Donny, Matic, Sancho, Amad, Elanga, Lingard.

Is that really the side you'd like to see? Do you think that side is really more likely to win games than one containing some of our struggling players.

Jimjams,

Not many top managers look to start through mid season. Utd aren't set up well either. Utd would be a hard sell to a top manager. Rangnick is there to set the club up for the potentia new manager.

Remain patient. It will take time for the team to gel etc.

The only one that can't be dropped is ronaldo, the others won't score as many as him, give him service and he will score he has proved that already

Fred and mctom are one if the main issues along with a shocking defence.

DDG, AWB, Bailly, Maguire (for his massive head against burnley, nothing else), Shaw, Matic, Mctom, Lingard, Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani.

That would be my team tonight.

Ralfs main job isn't coaching. He will oversee the set up. Don't be unfair.

The team isn't short of top players, in fact we have one of the best attacking squads in the Premier league. It's the application of the players lazy can't be arsed attitude.
The basics of a football game is to try and pass and keep possession of the football. For some reason we find it impossible to do that, even 5-10 yard balls.
That performance the other night against Newcastle was nothing short of embarrassing and the players should be accountable for it.
No matter what team, formation he puts out there was no excuse for that.

Too many players are out of form imo.
We need that 1 big win to bring the spark back.

30 Dec 2021 11:42:13
Bring the spark back? When was it there :D
I can honestly only think of a handful of times since Fergie left that I've been genuinely excited watching Utd. Most recently in the doomed back three formation against Spurs when it looked like we had a new solution and scored a few crackers. But make no mistake, even when we win it's bloody dire.

Part of the problem is that Ralf now has to undertake the reset we were told started three years ago, but didn’t

The club chose the players over Mourinho and let a lack of challenge, lesser standards pervade the whole club the last three years.

Now the players are being shown for what they are, they are even whinging about later training sessions and they have to go home in the dark, poor things. Weed them out starting now, sell those who will not adapt or move forward. Rangnick is not the long term manager but will learn a lot from managing them and will be able to be more specific with his recommendations as a consultant

The club needs to stand right behind Rangnick and the players need to know who is in charge. The last 3 years it had been all soft and arm round shoulder which only works so long and the players get soft, think they are more important than the manager. Now needs sorting out brutally if needed. Sell those who whinge or don’t comply. The results will be whatever this season, we must look longer term.

I feel it is very unfair to judge the manager at this point. No manager could come in and turn this group of players into champions. Rangnick has not even had the chance to bring players in to put his own philosophy into effect. Our problem essentially is poor recruitment over the last few years. Sir Alex and Sir Matt didn’t tend to buy players on a whim. They did their homework and bought players who had character. That is what we are lacking. So I hope that Rangnick is given an opportunity to see if he can turn things around.

Ralf came here (i think) with a clear plan. He is "interim" manager. He will lay the foundations working with the group of players he have, will make his reports of who stays who must go and then at the end of the season will decide if we are ready for a new proactive coach or he continues for one more year.
Ralf is not Konte. He is not a coach with immediate results. He will not give them the physiological boost like Konte does. But he will lay the foundations and that's what we need now after so many years beeing in the wrong direction. Ralf has not many successes in recent times at coaching and we knew that and we knew for day one that that's not the criteria. Ralfs main job is to bring the right ethos and bring the right persons to move the club forward so that's the criteria and we must not be unfair with him.

Talk of favourites is dull and boring. There are players who haven’t had a look in under 3 or 4 managers now and that speaks volumes about them.

We don’t see them training or know them as characters but I don’t think players like Bailly and VDB aren’t selected because they ain’t anyone’s favourite.

Rangnick will not be able to change thing around completely in 5 months but he will certainly be able to put his stamp on things. Hopefully, the incoming permanent manager and Rangnick are on the same wavelength and can work together.
