A few seasons ago, majority of us here were using or reading the word 'toxics' on daily basis, now the new word seems to be 'amateurish'.
My question is if Utd choose to get rid of Ole now or before the season ends, will it be considered amateurish and forced by the toxics or will it be what the club needs?

I think you’re conflating too things.

The word toxics primarily relates to calls for LVG to be sacked, thereby pushing the club to deviate from their plan to appoint Allegri at the end of LVG’s three years.

Amateur is used to describe United’s transfer strategy, particularly their belief that they can pressure ‘smaller’ clubs into accepting lower offers for their players and generally not treating them with respect.

If Ole is sacked it will be because the club think that keeping him does not serve their longer term ambitions.

I would add that it was amateur behaviour to hire him in the first place. In Dec 2018 the club stated that they would be using the rest of the season to identify the right coaching team to take the club forward. Within two months they jettisoned this plan on the back of a run of good results. It’s not particularly professional to chop and change long term plans on the basis of short term success. Especially when you’re hiring a manager with no experience at the top level.

I appreciate your reply Danny. But I know what those 2 words meant here. My question is based on the supposed stadium walk out plans looming; it has an air of toxicity. Thus will Ole's sack be given in to the toxics or rather an attempt at correcting the amateur appointment you referred to.

The club are happy with Ole. He’s compliant and happy to toe the company line.

The walkouts are directed at the running of the club, rather than the manager like on previous occasions. When Ole is inevitably sacked it won’t be down to correcting the mistake, it will be an attempt to placate disgruntled fans. However, as the fans are unhappy with much more than Ole, it remains to be seen if this will stop the protests.

Cheers Danny.
However here lies my confusion, are the disgruntled fans toxics in this case?

I think the toxic label is what Ed002 meant in terms of fans disrupting the club’s long term plan when LVG was in charge.

I was a toxic at that time, and can see what Ed002 was getting at. The club had an actual long term plan in place but supporters’ demand for short term improvements on the pitch and put pressure on them to sack LVG before Allegri could come.

The key difference this time is that the club don’t have any real long term plan anymore. The club say that Ole is the long term plan. That he is the best person to bring the club forward. I’m not sure if it’s toxic to criticise the club for sticking with a manager so clearly out of his depth, or to question why the club is struggling to sign the right players.

Bit clearer now Danny. Thanks for your insight.
