Just a quick question for ed regarding Dean Henderson. Does there seem to be any plan in place to keep him and give him a chance at man utd? In my opinion he has done amazing these last 2 seasons and for me will become a top class keeper. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any plans - certainly unless DDG leaves he won't be getting a chance at MU.}

Hopefully we can improve the lads contract to keep him around and send him back on loan to Sheffield United. I'd like to see the club slowly transition him into our first team keeper.

De Gea is amazing but is reaching the end of his career, will he want to remain at the club for his whole career? If a club like PSG or Real came in for him I'd seriously listen to their offers because in Henderson we have a young, English keeper who is showing he has what it takes to be one of the best in the league.

If someone came in for DDG I'd let him go, not because I don't rate him. I still think he is a top keeper, but I do wonder for how much longer he will be at that level.

For me Dean Henderson looks like the future of our goalkeeping position, DDG is the present, for how much longer who knows. I do wonder what would happen if both Henderson and DDG were to compete on an even keel, who would come out on top.

De Gea is 29, for a keeper he should have another 5-6 years at the top level. Hardly the end of his career.

DDG doesn’t command the six yard area let alone the 18 yd box. Great shot stopper particularly with his legs but I said last summer I would have sold him and given Henderson a chance. The money can be spent elsewhere.

Why keep a player so we can use him fuether down the line. I would rather him move to a top club so he can make a name for himself.

I think the club should really look to try and offload De Gea in the summer, his main attribute was shot stopping and that's rapidly going, he can’t command his area, he's weak and his distribution is awful. Time to offload and that’s assuming there are any takers.

22 Jan 2020 13:15:21
maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but would like to see him in the first team in the summer. Agree regarding his developement though.

I got lashed for suggesting this in the summer.
We now have the best paid lb in the league who shouldn't be in any team
We have the best paid Keller in the world who some would be happy to move on
We have the best paid cf in the league who only truss trys on occasion and wouldn't get into most other top teams
We have the best paid cm in the league who only trys when he wants to.
Shifting these players on when they have the contracts they do will not be easy at all.

I'd sell Henderson in the summer with a potential buy back clause if possible? Keep Romero as number 2 if he still wants to stay but he does have the ability to be a good number 1 somewhere else.

Henderson is in my opinion the best English keeper at the moment and should fetch a reasonable amount which could be reinvested on players we actually have a need for in the short term.

Danny, in theory your right, as a keeper he should have another 5-6 years at the top.

Yet, which attributes of DDG's would you say are world class? Shot stopping? Absolutely. Commanding his area? Organising his defence? Distribution? Collecting high balls?

I think its fair to say DDG isn't world class in any of these areas. In fact would you even put him in the top ten in the world for any of those areas?

Shot stopping heavily relies on reflexes, which is the first thing a player loses as they age.

Iker Casillias was a similar keeper, was he world class still at 31? Nope. He had a dramatic fall from grace as when his shot stopping ability dropped he was a very average keeper. I fear the same might happen with DDG unless he is working very hard on developing the other areas of his game. Which if he had you would expect to have seen some improvement in them by now.

Unless DDG leaves in the next year or so I can see us stuck with a highly paid No.2 keeper in a few years time.

so you’re more concerned about ddg’s play (one of our only top class players) and his merits for remaining at the club but our useless and clueless manager should maintain his position and continue to fail and make us into a laughing stock - have I got that right shaps? God help us.

22 Jan 2020 15:45:54
tombomb, In the short term I think we should stick with Ole yes. I don't see an advantage to sacking him without a clear plan/ vision moving forward otherwise we will keep making the same mistakes.

DDG is still a top class player, but one who might not remain top class for that much longer. IF a good deal was to arrive for him this summer be that from PSG, Real Madrid or whoever than yes I think the club should seriously consider accepting it.

Dean Henderson is an excellent young keeper and is already better at commanding his area, collecting high balls and organising his defence. So In the next two season I would expect Henderson and DDG to make a similar number of vital saves and silly mistakes. However, Henderson is clearly on an upward trajectory, whereas DDG will soon start to be on a downward trajectory if he isn't already. So yes moving him on for a large fee and replacing him with an improving keeper not far from his level seems like a sensible idea to be honest.

Also good for regulations- homegrown, British etc.

Wilder has already said that they are talking about keeping him another season. let's see how he does in the Prem for another season and then go from there. Hopefully, he pushes on and has another good season. I'd rather he got a couple of seasons under his belt before we play him behind Phil Jones.
