Im a big mctom supporter.
But he did give the ball away 17 times yesterday.
I remember sanchez doing that last season and being lashed for it on here by the usual suspects.

That's a shocking amount of lost possession.
Its also one of the reasons we were so poor yesterday.
When he plays well its ok to say so but when he comes up with stats like that uts ok to say he had a stinker yesterday.

Agree3 Disagree0

He was poor yesterday, but the bigger issue is the role he is being asked to play. It seems that the cms are being asked to break up play and quickly get it to the fast attackers. This means that they are never setting the tempo or controlling the play. McTom is a young player, who is getting used to playing in the middle. If his job is restricted to break up and pass, then it’s hard for him to develop.

There are subtle differences, firstly Sanchez lost possession by having a poor first touch or by being dispossessed mostly which was the frustrating thing for most fans. Watching him last year try and control a ball was like watching someone with wet hands try and grab hold of the soap.

While McTominay yesterday mostly lost possession by passes being intercepted or misplaced. McTominay also made 3 tackles, 2 interceptions and made 4 clearances. Which tied him with AWB for most defensive actions for us in the game.

So he was clearly having at least some positive impact for us, while Sanchez offered little defensively and even less offensively.

Personally I think the reason we were poor yesterday was poor finishing. We had 24 attempts on goal and only scored once. We could and probably should have been 2-0 up within the first twenty minutes, and could have been 3-0 up at half time. At which point it would have been game over as Everton would have either had to sit deep and take the loss or come out in the second half and try and attack us and leave space in behind. And we all know how that ends with our team.

It's fine margins.

16 Dec 2019 14:10:09
Agree, he's still learning, but yesterday he was totally off. The only really encouraging thing about yesterday was those diagonal and through balls Maguire and Lindelof did throughout the game. Just a shame the forward didn't have the composure to finish. I again thought Lingard was crap though, how many more chances does he get?

16 Dec 2019 14:53:24
LLV. Yes, some really good diagonal balls from our CB's for our pacey forwards.
Hope to see more of those in future games as well.

Ken, I feel that we are over playing some of our players due to lack of depth in quality.

On another note, our delivery for corners are not improving at all. Some of the deliveries yesterday were shocking.

16 Dec 2019 15:02:43
I only got to watch the game last night. McTom was poor in the first half, but I think he stepped his performance up in the second, which offered some encouragement.

16 Dec 2019 15:40:05
Im a big fan but he had a mare yesterday.
I agree TRD the dead ball offering from us whether it be free kicks or corners is useless.

16 Dec 2019 15:44:24
So shappy you don't think the reason we were poor was that our central midfield pairing hit 30 passes between them that either went out of play or straight to an opponent?
24 shots my arse. Anybody can shoot how many looked like being a goal? How many good saves? Difficult saves?

16 Dec 2019 16:16:53
Ken, it certainly didn't help. But we had at least 4 good chances where we should have scored but didn't.

Forwards missing chances was not the fault of McTominay under hitting a pass.

Jesse should have had us 1-0 in under a minute.

16 Dec 2019 16:52:27
Every team misses chances in every match. Its easier to create chances when you pass the ball to your own team.
Shoulda coulda woulda. Shappy. Tell me a team that doesn't miss chances or better still tell me a team that scores most of the chances they create?
We created 3 or 4 clear cut chances to score and had plenty of shots that didn't threaten or didn't cause pickford any major concern.

16 Dec 2019 17:06:41
He had an off day, first one all season, get rid of him.

He also would have had a great assist for a James goal if James could finish.

16 Dec 2019 17:36:43
Who said get rid of him? That's just being silly GDS.

16 Dec 2019 19:16:45
I missed the first half only saw the second, I thought we should of won the game to be honest.

16 Dec 2019 19:29:58
Add it to the list jred of games we could have or should have won.
There is only a few games this season where we have been totally out played.
Many of the games we have drawn or lost we should or could have won that's what's so frustrating.
Teams are there for the taking we just can't seem to take advantage enough.
Why is that Happening so consistently?
Some maintain its all the players fault.
Some think its oles fault.
Its as usual a mix of both imo. A selection of poor players at the highest level andre promising but very inexperienced players and an inexperienced coach for the highest level.

16 Dec 2019 21:41:26
Ken its maybe people expecting immediate results all the time and not taking in to account it takes time to build.

16 Dec 2019 22:33:21
I think your right to a point jred.
People want success.
We don't have a divine right to win nobody does. City for example were being lauded as the best team ever not so long ago now they are 14 points adrift half way through the following season. Look at arsenal spurs and chelsea all worse off than last season yet we havnt gained any ground.
Its not easy. It doesn't matter what you spend or how much you pay nothing is easy.
We have the bones of a top 4 team if our 1st 11 / 13 played 38 games.
Behind that we have a lot of young unproven players and a few players not up to standard at all.
It will take a couple of years no doubt about that.
However we are just 1 year under ole and we are 1 point worse off than we were last year. 150m spent and a squad that is thread bare. Losing and drawing games we should have won.
Im not sure ole has the experience and knowhow too succeed in the king term. The signings have been good, so perhaps i should have more tolerance. Those that make the decision are showing tolerance. They know and see more than you or i. We are still in 3 cups and fighting for 4th. I hope for success but i'm not at all confident at this time. If he buys well in jan and sells well in jan we have a fighting chance if they settle as quickly as the other 3.
Mctom hss been v good and rash lately but apart from those 2 i don't see any improvement in the rest of the players and that is a concern a year in.

17 Dec 2019 02:20:41
People said klopp wasnt that good but it was obvious he was building something at liverpool .
Pep was overrated etc.
We drew a game that we probably should of won and as always the same people start saying the same things.

17 Dec 2019 05:53:43
Ken. Top post. That's the reality right there.

17 Dec 2019 07:07:24
Jred how are you comparing Klopp with ole? You could give ole all the time but he will never be on klopp’s level because he’s simply not as good as klopp.

17 Dec 2019 07:54:49
Jred that's a lot of nonsense with respect.
We have not drawn 1 game. we have our worst points tally ever after 16 games.
Who said pep was overrated?
2 proven winners you mentioned there. In no way can ole be compared to either of them.

17 Dec 2019 10:06:14
Let's face it, if McTominay had been around during the Fergie years he'd have been seen as a decent enough squad player and no more .
The fact that he's now our main man in midfield says more about the state of the squad than it does about him .

17 Dec 2019 11:12:40
Bilko. I think mctom has made great strides. Yes he has been our main man in midfield this season and one of our more consistent performers. He is still young and has carried the mantle of being our 'main man' as well as can be expected for a young lad.
The fact is he shouldn't be in that position. But the club decided and we don't really know who made the decision to go into the season with only matic who has been frozen out,
Pogba who said he wanted to leave along with fred and mctom as our only proven snr midfielders. Ole said he was delighted with his squad at the beginning of the season along with a few fans who thought we had a great squad. So that was an awful decision.
Herrera not replaced. He has only started 5 games for psg all season.
Fellaini not replaced.
This has been compounded by diing the same with our attackers and left us with 3 snr forwards in the entire squad.
A complete balls up to be honest.

17 Dec 2019 12:48:07
Park I'm not .
Ken everytime we drop points people wheel out the same post after post .
Strange how it never applies when we win.

17 Dec 2019 13:17:48
I always wonder why people are surprised when a manager says he is happy with what he's got. Hardly good management, knowing he has to work with what he's got for the foreseeable future, to throw them under the bus by telling everyone how crap they are. Would be very short-sighted.

17 Dec 2019 13:21:46
When you say people do you mean me jred?

17 Dec 2019 13:34:21
Ken
Several do, I see martial and shaw are back on the firing line after our latest draw . 2 players returning from long term Injuries.

17 Dec 2019 14:10:05
Jred martial is never off my radar he is my least favourite united player. I find him infuriating.
Maybe when you were on one of your hissy fits or breaks whatever you care to call it you missed my positive posts after the city and spurs games and you may have missed where i predicted we would win both. But sure you really just come on here looking for a fight and make comments to antagonize others. With no real come n to make a it the team or cv lub or manager. You just want to put other people's opinions down. Its not a nice trait to be honest.
