Hi Ed002.
I was going through the posts of yesterday and had a question about your reply to one of the posts.

Could you please ellaborate about :
"The club will stick with him and have a massive financial decision to make in the coming months"

Is the massive financial decision related to investment in Janaury transfer window?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, and the summer. If the coach changes it will be difficult to recruit anyone who wants significant involvement in transfers under the existing system.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed002, without naming names could you give a brief overview of how transfers are currently conducted at Manchester United? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I really don't think that would be a good idea.}

Fair enough. Thanks anyway.

We signed good players in the summer. We seem to be looking at the right players for future windows.

Yeah Mort.
Hopefully we recruit well in January window as well.

James has been very good. The two at the back? We concede goals for fun. Only 2 clean sheets this season. Would we be in a similar position if we played Young and Smalling instead of Maguire and Wan Bisaka?

We. Have. No. Mid. Field.

Pogba doesn't want to be here.

Fred struggles with the pace and physicality.

Pereira isn't a centre midfielder and isn't good enough anyway.

Matic is slower than a oil tanker in reverse.

That leaves us with mctominay. Lad can't do it all.

Liverpool have conceded for 11 consecutive league games. A few less than us with a settled defence. We've two new starts in, and a kid at left back. I'd say, give it time, but I know that's not a popular concept these days.

Awb looked better last season i think he has adjusted well was out for a bit and looks like he will be a top player.
Maguire and lindelof have not been great lindelof in particular looks like he has regressed a bit and is a tad shakey. I think Williams has been very good particularly as he is right footed. Shaw will come back to compete with him. Dalot will compete with awb so we look well stocked with 4 young full backs all with good potential.
Tuanzebe and bailly could well give lindelof a fight for his place. Jones and rojo are a waste of wages.
Id still like to see another cb but there is obviously more pressing areas to address.
To be fair to our defence the protection in front of them is virtually non existent and we give the ball away so often that the defence finds themselves all out of shape with full backs moving forward only for someone to lose the ball again so they have to turn and chase back. The amount of goals conceded by us in transition shows that.
With the exception of mctom and at a real stretch fred nobody else puts their heart and soul into defending.

Liverpool also go up the other end and score 3 or 4. They're also 20 points ahead of us after 13 games. We can't keep clean sheets and we're not particularly hot going forward. Buts let's compare a stat with Liverpool without looking at the bigger picture.

Which, as Mort points out, is where the lack of a midfield comes in. And even without one, our defensive record is still not that much worse than any of the teams either above or around us, and better than most. Imagine what could happen once we get a decent midfielder, and the defence get used to playing with each other a bit more.

29 Nov 2019 05:41:31
As Ken said, our midfielders do not offer protection to the defence.
Worse thing is they can't keep the balls. Just gives it away time and time again.

The midfield is the big picture. Ot can't support the attack or protect the defence.

The handling of Herrera and then not replacing him were a pair of major blunders.

Recently I've had to double check if your name is Mumbles or Grumbles.

The quality of our defence has improved, yet performances are reliant on the team. As pointed out above, most people would probably say our best back four would be AWB, Lindelof or Tunazebe, Maguire and Williams right now.

Williams and Tuanzebe are making there way into the first team with limited experience. While Magiure and AWB are new and settling in, with AWB being young with only one season EPL experience under his belt.

A great defence works well as a unit, but to do that takes time to build relationships and understanding between all the players. they need to play together for a season or so to build that up.

The fact it is a very new defence is being compounded by the total lack of protection they are getting. McTominay isn't really a shielding midfielder, yet the number of goals we are conceding without him in the team has gone up. Which highlights how troublesome our lack of a midfield is.
