Never thought I would say this but Fred was actually very very impressive on Saturday, breaking up the play and a number of defence splitting through balls, as well as some nice little touches in small spaces to get himself out of trouble.

So we think a run of games has done him good as he has been improving gradually as the season has gone on or do you think this is a false dawn and he will go back to how he has been? A lot of talk how Ole hasn't improved many players over the last few weeks but I can name a few who are performing better now.

Interesting few weeks ahead to see if some of these players can continue to impress.

Obviously meant Sunday, I've no idea what he got up to on Saturday but I was impressed by it.

It's difficult to say with Fred. Certainly he hasn't been given a run of games to play himself into form up until recently. Which has coincided with a big improvement in his play.
Yet, he hasn't really shown anything even in glimpses in the EPL in the games he has played in last season.
His best games have tended to come in European games where the pace is slightly slower. Which suggests he struggles when the tempo is relentless and he doesn't have time. Yet, he has shown improvements in that regard recently.

Hopefully it is the start of him finding his feet and being a good player for us, but at the moment it's probably a little too soon to say. Fingers crossed though.

a few of us always said he needed a run of games in the team, especially when the team was winning.

to be fair to him he hasn't moaned, has gone on with it and although not the best player you can tell he tries, he runs his balls off.

I don’t think Fred will ever be a top quality midfielder, and he’s always at risk of a big mistake.

But credit where it’s due, he works hard and is happy doing the defensive grunt work. We are a better team with him in it, than with Pogba and deserves to keep his spot.

Or probably he had the quality in him given that 2 of the all time greats saw something to go after him ( Pep and Jose) and he just needed a season to get going in the league. Not many foreigners hit the ground running immediately. Not everyone is Zlatan 😁.

Good that you said Ole has improved him. Just waiting for the day when Ole improves himself now and we can be back to the top 😄😄.

Most impressive thing for me is his lack of whining and his apparent good attitude to hard work.

I so with that shot had gone in, he deserved it. Right now the team looks lively, we have struggled when we have been lethargic. Stating the obvious I know but energy and pressing has made such a difference.

Tony,

I wonder where that went from last season as we had bags of energy when Ole first came in and it just disappeared weirdly even with the same players, very odd. The players have quality and if they use that energy we will have a chance in most games.

Shan,

I didn’t say Ole has improved him just that when players don’t improve it’s his fault so when they do I think he has to take some credit.

i would rather watch fred give his all than a half arsed pogba.

Fred can pick some good passes and provides good energy in the midfield.
But his loose first touch can put him in trouble.

Credit to him for the improvement he has shown.

There’s the conundrum GDS, the pressing seems to come and go, if we could do it consistently we will worry anyone as Liverpool found out.

Danny, I would have agreed but he keeps taking a step up and he continues then who knows? If we had a creative and talented 10 in front of Fred and McT then I think that would work well.
