Phil Jones was given a new contract in Feb 19

Ole said:

"Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League and is now one of the senior players within the team.

"He is coming up to his 27th birthday and entering into his prime years as a centre-half. We are delighted Phil has committed his future to the club. "

Eulogies are being given to OGS for approving buying 3 players in summer. How has OGS developed Phil Jones?

Same question for Van Gaal and mourinho mate. If a new contract is given you don’t want the coach saying “he’s rubbish but he’s staying”.

24 Oct 2019 13:33:54
Exactly Caolan.
What is the manager supposed to say?
"I'm delighted to announce Phil Jones has extended his contract to continue to fully access the medical facility? "

24 Oct 2019 13:42:27
Redman pay no attention to what he says.

24 Oct 2019 14:02:05
Oh Red man, you do like a little hyperbole, I'd say you almost like it as much as you like trawling through old articles to try and find a new angle to hate on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As TrueRedDevil says, what exactly is Ole supposed to say when asked about a new contract given to a player?

How has Ole developed Jones? Well he hasn't, but then how much more room for growth does he have? Can he stay fit long enough to learn.

The only thing Ole does appear to have realised with Jones is his value is in his knowledge and not on the pitch. If only a few of his predecessors had realised that then maybe they wouldn't have persisted in playing Jones every time he was fit.

Why do people insist on quoting managers/ players when they're talking to the media, to try and prove a point? THEY MEAN NOTHING! I've never used caps lock on social media before, which shows how frustrating it is!

{Ed047's Note - sorry Nou, can you speak up, I can’t hear you? 😉😁

24 Oct 2019 14:54:09
Coming soon, next time United get a decent result and we can't bash Ole for legitimate football reasons, some old tat about Ole not stopping to help an old lady cross the road in 1996.

Or possibly that time he drove at 31mph in a 30 zone.

Or maybe how he cheated at Scrabble. He swore blind it was a Norwegian word, how can we possibly trust him.

24 Oct 2019 17:21:47
Oh I thought he was being lauded for clearing all the poor players out, not giving new contracts then not playing them!

24 Oct 2019 17:28:31
Shappy mate you don't half post a load of bolloxology 😂
Ed047 editing this must be painful. If you extract all the BS from some posts they would only be 10 words long 😂.

24 Oct 2019 17:37:01
Go on Red Man, I'll bite. Which of the players that have left the club under Ole do you feel should have been kept for their long term worth to the team?

Who do you feel still at the club deserves a start over the players currently playing? Matic? Mata? Jones? Good players to have around for experience, but not in your first team every week. Unless you disagree of course?

24 Oct 2019 18:04:42
A goal scoring centre forward was allowed to leave the club without a replacement. Ok his first touch was not so good but he scored goals and was a threat. There have been very mixed messages as to why but not replacing him was on Ole’s watch. Herrera was a shocking decision, again not replaced.

As to Matic, Mata and Jones, they appear to have been retained but totally ostracised at a time when our squad is threadbare.

24 Oct 2019 18:44:57
The club's replacements were available, if the club's first, second and third choice is unavailable what would you suggest?

We could have signed Schneiderlin to replace Herrera, or Falcao to replace Lukaku. But I thought the whole point of progress is not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Ole has stated he wanted to keep Herrera, yet Herrera had decided to leave as he didn't feel the club valued him by taking so long to give him a new deal. That's fair enough I suppose.

Lukaku wanted to leave and was pushing to leave. Would you have suggested keeping him against his will. And unhappy player who was not first choice and didn't suit the style we want to see.

I agree both needed replacing, but surely you agree it would be better to wait until the right players are available rather than spunking another 900m on players who aren't good enough?

24 Oct 2019 19:42:39
Shappy, surely you don't move them on until you have a replacement.

Like never quit your job until you have a new one.

24 Oct 2019 20:27:31
Shappy

If we are mid table or worse, battling relegation this season would you still defend not replacing key players or acknowledge the manager actually did make mistakes?

24 Oct 2019 20:29:47
Shappy is a student angel they don't do jobs😂😂😂.

24 Oct 2019 21:00:32
Happy, we can all be selective in what we post to back up our opinions. RedMan just chooses do so it about Ole.

By the way, you never did reply to my post about crosses being 'pointless'. Conveniently timed holiday, I believe?

24 Oct 2019 21:33:47
Or Shappy even!

24 Oct 2019 22:15:19
Angel that depends on the situation. I have had to sack people without s replacement waiting in the wings.

If a player doesn't want to be at the club and he is causing grief behind the scenes then you are best off without them.

In football where you either have to find a buyer or wait until a players contact runs out or cancel it. This becomes even harder. Inter were the only team prepared to pay anywhere near what we wanted for him, if we kept him they would have bought someone else and we could run the risk of being stuck with an unhappy player or sell at considerably less than we wanted to.

I feel as fans we tend to oversimplify running a football club.

Red man, who made the mistake not bringing a replacement in, does Ole negotiate the deals?

Betty, I never hide from a question. I was on holiday from the 4th until the 14th of September in northern Italy, I can show you the pictures if you want. So I don't actually know what your on about. If you want to ask me again now I will give you an answer.

24 Oct 2019 22:37:10
Why can’t we have a bloody day without having to push rubbish about mangers etc. So repetitive, same sticks being used. Are people not getting bored of it? I think at this stage everyone knows everyone’s view point, yet we keep regurgitating the same stuff.

So let me say this, Brandon Williams was very impressive tonight, hopefully more to come and great seeing him and garner, two academy lads holding their own in a hostile environment tonight. More of the same, and let’s hope for another win at the weekend.

24 Oct 2019 23:18:14
I don't need to see the pictures Shappy, thanks. It's a we'll know fact that Italy doesn't have the internet yet mate.

If I can find it in the archives I will try to re-post it on the discussions page.

25 Oct 2019 00:15:47
Williams was very good again tonight.
Best lb at the club based on what I've seen. Young is past it dalot is better on the right and shaw has never fulfilled the potential he had for one reason or another.

25 Oct 2019 01:35:41
He's played one full game. Let's not get carried away.

25 Oct 2019 03:18:53
Good to see Williams and Garner getting some minutes and doing well.
Well done lads!

25 Oct 2019 04:15:48
Shappy the situation at man United is we are one of the biggest clubs in the world. It was mind numbingly dumb not to replace him.

Was Lukaku causing grief behind the scenes? It didn't seem that way to us towards the end of the year. He's even on record saying he didn't want to leave. He didn't look like he wanted to leave when playing either, one thing you can't say about him is that he didn't give it his all out there. I thought the club treated him v poorly in the end.

Also you love to give OGS credit for moving on and bringing in players but on this particular occasion it's not his fault. make up your mind.

25 Oct 2019 06:00:48
Williams was great considering it was just his second start.
AWB I feel doesn't offer much in attack as full back in 3-5-2.
He can be used as RCB in this system.

25 Oct 2019 06:55:05
Angelred

Spot on about Lukaku, looked like OGS didn’t want him to me, but not replacing him and then being unable to score goals on the back of that decision, taking us near the bottom of the league, is frankly disgraceful

I also look forward to the Shappy dissertation on last nights game, on how it was uplifting and so much better than, for example the away win at Juventus a year ago, just because we have someone in charge who “gets” United. I will try to read it all.

25 Oct 2019 08:34:39
This is stating to sound like a teenage girl bitch-fest site. Not that I've ever been on one, of course.

25 Oct 2019 08:43:46
Don't people ever get tired saying the same thing over and over again?

25 Oct 2019 10:07:17
Steve those sites are more fun at times.
