I like Ole. Want him to stay and be successful. Give him time and an extra player or two in January and he'll get this turned round. He's going to have to fight his way through this period and win all of the fans over again - but if he does it could be the making of him.

He needs a striker. A mobile DM to replace Matic and a creative midfielder, either wide right or number 10. Missing Martial and Shaw badly and Rash, Jesse and Andreas need to step up and do a lot more.

There I said it. Not expecting anyone to agree with me, but I can't keep reading this page without getting that out!

Agree9 Disagree0

Dodgy he's got most of the fans onside at the moment. Its just a vocal element of the online Twitter babies have turned. And there were some against him from day one.

04 Oct 2019 12:51:49
I havnt heard the fans singing "Oles at the wheel" in quite some time.

Mort, I’m not against Ole. But I don’t think it’s just a lack of players. It’s also a lack of managerial experience and ability.

We had a front three of Greenwood, Sanchez and James last night. All young, inexperienced, and the manager plays everyone out of position. How is Ole coming to these decisions?

I think one of the biggest problems we have is that we have yet to bring in a manager equipped for the modern game. Moyes, LVG, and Jose are all from a different era in which manager power dewarfed player power. Ole is basing his style on SAF, the pinnacle of this era.

This style of management just can’t cut it anymore. Especially at the very top, where players know they can stroll into another top club if they fall out with the manager, and the squad know they can topple a manager by doing things half arsed.

The best managers today have learned how to motivate arrogant and preened celebrities by working with, not against, their egos. And even then it’s not guaranteed to last.

I just feel like we’re fighting against the tide, and Ole doesn’t have the ability to turn things around.

Fair enough Danny. I get that. There is a lack of experience there. Not just with Ole but with Carrick and McKenna as well. Which leads the question what is the point of Phelan. I think last night he tried to do something different to see if that would work when he should've left them in their natural positions.

04 Oct 2019 13:45:29
Mort. Just because someone has a different opinion they are not babies.
I have always sorted ole. But we are disimproving.
Mctom is the only player playing better over the past 12 months than he was.
Ole appears to be drowning.

04 Oct 2019 14:27:53
Ken, go on Twitter and read some of the Ole out crowds tweets. Babies is the right word.

04 Oct 2019 15:24:49

You wouldn't, listen to the other words in that song, we don't have all of the players anymore so the song doesn't work, nothing to do with the legend managing the club.

04 Oct 2019 15:38:28
Sánchez is the only one no longer here, although it’s easy to forget that Fred exists. And Sanchez’s name isn’t even part of the rhyming cadence. You could pretty much swap it for any other player’s name and it wouldn’t change the song.

You’ll have to try a bit harder GDS.

04 Oct 2019 16:34:48
That's true Danny very good point.

Mort, I was one of the ones who wanted Ole in as caretaker manager. But since the loss at Arsenal last season, we have played four football. Slow and imaginative. He's had a few months to work with the squad and come to some sort of playing style. 4231 is not working as we don't have the striker who can play that role. But he's stuck to it despite its failings.

He played everyone out of position last night, why? These were all young players and they need to play where they're best at. Terrible managerial decision.
Finally, Ole, Carrick and Phelan are all dour characters. Non of them inspire me with any confidence that we will suddenly change our style and play expansive and attacking football.

Carrick was a holding midfielder one of the best, but non the less, a defense minded midfielder. Phelan was a break play up midfielder with very little skill and no imagination whatsoever, probably the most boring player I've seen in a United shirt. Ole is inexperienced, the only other job he had in England, ended in disaster for Cardiff.

So how are these three happy campers going to suddenly change their mentalities and develop a hunger for attacking football?
Ole's record in the past 20 matches (half a season) is truly abysmal. Do you think he's got what it takes to coach this team to play differently and more offensively? I have no confidence that this will happen.

04 Oct 2019 17:09:21
I made that point last night AAA.
Carrick mckenna and phelan are also not having a positive impact.
Our players fail all the time on pre basics like control, first touch, and passing. Technically we are very poor. That's basic coaching we are right to expect better from our coaches.

04 Oct 2019 17:09:31
I don't think a players position dictates what kind of manager they become.

We looked good for the first three games, unlucky with some chances not going in and since the confidence has plummeted.

04 Oct 2019 17:16:41
Ken agreed and unfortunately, it's true.
Mort, I understand your point, but the point I'm making is that between Ole, Carrick and phelan, there's a heavy influence on defensive tactics. Even if Ole wants to play attacking football, I think phelan's influence will not be positive.
Carrick is a strange appointment, no experience, no character as a man, but an excellent player. But that does not make him a good coach.
So we have both Ole and Carrick inexperinced and learning from Phelan, and that's my biggest worry.

04 Oct 2019 17:24:54
GDS. I doubt the old Trafford faithful would feel bad about substituting Sanchez for Dan James or other players into the song. We used to sing it when we took the lead in matches. That's a rarity these days.

04 Oct 2019 17:35:08
so the manager and his staff are to blame for players taking poor touches and passing etc.

the reason why were are failing at the basics is because the players are useless.

we are expecting rashford, 21 year old to score 20 plus goals in a team that has no wingers that create opportunity's a central midfield as slow as any i have seen play.

we just need to get to january.

04 Oct 2019 17:59:47
Don't expect much in jan bolger.

04 Oct 2019 18:57:17
As I said before how often do we buy in January. Mata, who was a panic buy and thanks to Ken for reminding me after I'd blanked it out Sanchez.

04 Oct 2019 19:47:25
Here to help the aged mort😂😂.

04 Oct 2019 20:15:39
Nowt to do with age. I'd to block out the trauma.

04 Oct 2019 23:11:37
We ain't losing much.

04 Oct 2019 23:17:46
I know mort and its only a loan😱.

05 Oct 2019 09:50:30
He's doing well though so maybe they'll be tempted to make it permanent.
