I think tonight might be the game that Mason Greenwood truly announces himself on the world stage. A brace or even a hat trick maybe.

We have a history of players making a name for themselves against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Agree4 Disagree0

He probably won't start as Rashford has been declared fit.

I think our soon to turn 18 year old striker without a single EPL start to his name will get at least two goals against a side that finished above us last season.

And we wonder why young players struggle to live up to the hype.

Danny, if Arsenal could defend they would have finish last season in the top four.

Also I'm not saying I'm expect him to score 30+ goals in his first season, or even for him to play well in all the games he plays.

I just have an inclining that he might score a couple of goals tonight. If he does have a great game then it will be down to the club, the manager and the coaches to keep his feet on the ground and not let a good performance go to his head.

As for the fans, we will always over hype our young players. There are still fans who expected us to challenge for the title this season.

Currently we have some great young players; Henderson, Tuanzebe, Williams, Laird, McTominay, Garner, Levitt, Gomes, Chong and Greenwood.

If three of them make it as long term first team players then that will be a huge success.

Yet the fans would love for all of them to make it, and some even believe most of them will. The fact remains, they will only make it if they have the mentality to grab their chance when it comes their way.

shappy god forbid abit of an optimistic post in these hard times.

i hope we go we go with James greenwood and dalot as the wide 3.

There’s a difference between optimism, and expecting an 18 y/ o with very little experience to dominate in his first league start.

Have a look at what players like Bojan say about the pressure and expectations placed on teenagers. We talk about having the mentality to grab their chance, but this is precisely the type of talk that damages young players’ confidence and mental health if they can’t match the weight of expectations.

i don't think his post was aimed coming across that way.

but you never know danny, rashford bagged a brace in his first prem start against arsenal

maybe its written in the stars.

Danny, I'm not expecting him to score, I just have an inclining that he will.

Different players deal with the pressure differently. Some are superstars at 17 and go off the rails. Others take it in their stride. Giggs and Ronaldo both handled it fine. Others didn't.

It's the managements job to judge when these kids are ready, but the acid test is and always will be being thrown in. There is nowhere to hide on the pitch at Old Trafford. Whether these lads make their debut at 17 or 23 as Cleverly did. You still need to learn to handle it. No one is born able to handle pressure, it's a life skill you learn.

Unfortunately when you're a kid in the academy of a club our size you won't get a serious intermediate step between youth football and the biggest stage unless you go on loan for a year or two.

However, the loan system is a risky way to go. Do they play, does the loan club develop them the way the parent club would want, are they challenged at the right level to push them without it being too much. So many potential pitfalls.

Greenwood looks like he is ready for a step up in competition. Youth football is too easy for him. Is he ready to make the jump to playing for one of the biggest clubs in world football? Only time will tell.

Ole once again showing that his words and his actions have little in common with each other, he would rather play a half fit rashford rather than give the kid a chance to start.

30 Sep 2019 21:02:07
CSM - How old is Rashford?

30 Sep 2019 21:56:25
Doesn't matter how old he is, when you pick an experienced player who is clearly not fully fit ahead of a young inexperienced player who you have been hyping as a replacement for a 20 goals a season striker, shows how serious ole is about his youth. Every game lingard and Pereira show that they don't belong at man utd yet the next game it is those 2 always starting over gomes.
