Hi Ed002.
Considering the injuries and lack of cover in the striker's position, do you think United would look at Mandzukic or anybody else in the January window?

{Ed002's Note - Mandzukic would be a great way to throw more money away. I am not sure what injuries you are referring to.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We still have a pretty big squad, quality is obviously not there, more clear out is needed, with 2/ 3 quality additions needed every summer.

Adding mandzukic would be putting a sticking plaster over a stab wound.

Also if the scouts could scout players who can pass a football properly, that would help.

I would have been tempted to get an year out of him.
Seeing Lingard as the striker while chasing the game against West Ham was depressing.

I think what Ole said in his press conference was interesting. They couldn't get the striker they wanted and they didn't want a short term solution but someone who will be here for the long haul.

Now looking at who we were linked with maybe someone like Mousa Dembele from Lyon might be a better bet.

Shappy that sounds great. So if we get mandzukic, what does that mean?

It means the medical staff are confident that Mandzukic can play on at the top level until he's 40.

On a serious note, I think Mandzukic was explored as a possible signing but the club never pushed through. Maybe because they wanted a longer term option. Personally I think Mandzukic could have done a solid job for a year to 18 months. I think Ole was hoping the one of Rashford or Martial might step up. They still might, injuries have disrupted their start to the season. With an injury free run they might kick on.

Both have the potential to be top players, yet I feel Rashford is more suited to being a wide forward as his shooting isn't clinical enough. While Martial is coolness personified in front of goal, but he needs to improve his off the ball movement and work rate.

I'd avoid Mandzukic. Buying old players on big wages is not the way forward.

If you wanted someone with exp then Lewa wouldve been the one but we have no chance with that.

30 Sep 2019 14:23:11
Apparently Mandzukic's current wages are 87k per week. In which case if we were matching that then I wouldn't worry too much.

It wouldn't match the noise coming from OGS though.

Shappy
When was the last time united managed to get a player signed near there current wage? Were more likely going to give him a handsome payrise.

30 Sep 2019 17:49:12
I’m a bit confused Shappy.

After Lukaku was sold, Ole said that one of the reasons was Lukaku would have blocked Greenwood’s first team opportunities. Is the hypothesised new striker not going to block Greenwood, or was Ole lying back then?
