So DDG's long time coach and confidant Emilio Alvarez has left United. Interesting development.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2019 19:42:20
It might be for the best, he hasn't really developed as a keeper over the last few years. Maybe a new coach with a different perspective might be able to help him develop the other aspects of his game.

28 Sep 2019 20:05:58
No no no Shappy, it’s Ole’s fault. Alvarez thinks he’s a nobody with a poor cv so has bailed before things go tits up. (saved you a job there Red Man)

29 Sep 2019 06:04:04
lol AJH :)

29 Sep 2019 06:38:13
Get over yourself ajh.

29 Sep 2019 07:43:19
Ole has replaced him with the former Cardiff and Molde coach. Progressive.

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit however if you can’t see our downward journey I suggest spec savers.

29 Sep 2019 11:06:17
Red Man, of course I can see it, I just don’t see why we have to continually post about it. The ‘plan’ is clear, ship a lot out, replace with younger hungrier players. Whether that plan is working, or working fast enough is a different matter. But people are now taking about relegation which is extreme hyperbole.

29 Sep 2019 11:42:56
Yep, AJH.

We’re not going to get relegated, and it’s doubtful we’ll finish in the top 4.

The key question the club should be asking now is, will young hungry players want to join the club?

Ole and the club might be talking about changing the culture, and this being a long process, but they have to show players that the club is moving in the right direction and capable of taking their career to the next level.

If you’re a player like Maddisson or Sancho, and you’re thinking about making the next step in your career, why choose United?

29 Sep 2019 11:57:59
Biggest worry is our lack of goals. No one seems to be able to score. Greenwood is a very good prospect, but he's very young and we can't expect him to perform miracles. Martial and Rashford seem to be injured most of the time.
Relegation? Unlikely, but not impossible. Our record in the past 16 matches puts us in relegation place, so unless there's an upturn in fortunes, we might see us struggling mid to low part of the league. I had us around 11th spot before the start of the season.
Ddg situation is strange, he seems to be making mistakes all the time, so maybe a new coach is a good idea.

29 Sep 2019 12:12:09
Schmid, I take your pint but I think it’s midfield that is the issue, the forwards are feeding off scraps. If we can significantly strengthen midfield with pace and creativity then we might see more goals.

Danny, I would hope our club still has some pull. I hate the word but I we have a ‘project’ then they will come, Maguire is a case in point.

29 Sep 2019 12:22:02

In this post all I did was point out that DDG coach had left yet you then escalated things.

29 Sep 2019 12:37:58
He might be right there AJH 😂😂

Red man. Richard Hartis is the man I presume you are on about? He's been back since June and was also head of academy goalkeeping and first team goalkeeping coach for some time. He has plenty of experience working with too goalkeepers. He is the least of our worries to be honest.

29 Sep 2019 12:42:05

Maguire is a United fan and I expect that had a major bearing on signing. Other players may not wish to play for the failed Cardiff manager or his the clubs project, unless perhaps we pay lots of extra wages to persuade them.

29 Sep 2019 13:06:14
AJH, the thing is every club has a project.

What is going to convince them that our project is the best way to advance their careers?

These are players looking to make the step to a top level club, and surely other sides will be interested. My point is that it isn’t enough to finish in the top 6, and hope players will be convinced by the project. There needs to be some evidence that we are a clear step up from clubs like Dortmund and Leicester because at the moment we’re not.

29 Sep 2019 13:10:51
Red Man, I was having some fun at our expense 😃. We ‘now how you feel but you keep telling us. You used the words ‘interesting development’ in your OP as if there is a reason yet to come out. But sheesh, I was just having some fun.

29 Sep 2019 14:16:35
It appears the bypass surgery was a success. 😂.

29 Sep 2019 14:22:38
Do you really have to keep calling him the failed Cardiff manager? Its insulting and I'd expect better from a fan of your years.

29 Sep 2019 14:55:38
Pretty petty, Mort. Especially against someone who provided one of our club's finest moments.

Nice explanation, Angel, though I doubt it fit's the narrative.

Careful, Tony. You'll be getting reported for harassment if you carry on like that.

29 Sep 2019 15:31:24
Maguire isn’t a Utd fan he’s a Sheff Utd fan.

29 Sep 2019 15:46:44
Tony, you're right re our midfield. I started off as NoMidfield many years back, and it seems that nothing has been done on that front. It beggars belief how poor we are in that area. Fernandes, Madison were both required, and a defensive midfielder too. Until we sort these positions, we'll always struggle to score.
Having said all the above, 31 shots playing against rochdale and only one goal scored is a damning statistic.

29 Sep 2019 17:59:43
Red Man. It's disgraceful you keep naming Ole as "failed Cardiff manager" time and time again.
Please show some respect to our club's legend.

29 Sep 2019 18:34:49
I’ve seen posters call Keane a thug, and Rooney a fat granny fiddler on here.

I agree that it’s petty to call Ole that, but I’ve never seen any pushback to calling club legends much worse.

29 Sep 2019 19:06:13
Keane was a thug though. He was our thug but he was still a thug. He also gave the single greatest individual performance by a united player I've ever seen. He was a great player and is a club legend. But he had a very dark side to him.
Lets not gloss over that.

Rooney on at least two occasions turned up off his summer holiday overweight. Sorry but that's unforgivable in a professional athlete. I couldn't give a stuff about the granny business. What consenting adults do in they're own time is nobodies business. That said cheating on your Mrs is distasteful.

Great players, club legends. But ultimately human beings with human failings.

Bit different from belittling a club legend trying to do a hard job in difficult circumstances by banging on about an old job from years ago that 99% of managers would've failed in.

29 Sep 2019 19:29:21
Well said Mort.

29 Sep 2019 19:29:54
Klopp, Mourinho and Guardiola can't do anything with this squad, what makes you think that Ole will succeed.

I don't think Ole. is the right manager and his sole job ahould be to get rid of play3rs that are not good enought and get top class young players in for the next manager.

Its a rebuilding process and it will take time as what we have done for the last 6 years is criminal by having over paid average players and half arsed players.

29 Sep 2019 19:51:05
Absolutely Singh. We need a cultural shift.
A team with very high work ethic, good personality and players who will run through brick walls for our great club.

The 3 players which we recruited are ones with the right mentality.

29 Sep 2019 20:03:40
Fair enough Singh. As long as he continues clearing those deemed not good enough, promoting youngsters and making good buys then it leaves a good platform for himself or a successor although god knows who that would be. I'm not expecting a league title but given how badly we've been ran for over a decade swinging from underinvestment to the recent wild mispends there's a lot to do. We need patience and I think 90% of fans know that.

29 Sep 2019 20:14:28
I agree with you Mort and TRD. I agree with Redman too and he has a valid point.

We just got to be patient and accept reality that we are a mid table club at the moment. Its nothing to do with managers we have had in the last few tears.

It is more to do with poor recruitment and paying desperate over the top money to players which were poorly scouted.

I can assure you guys that things are going to get a lot worse and we will see lots of games like the Rochdale unti we sort our midfield and forward positions.

No need to get too emotional about things you can't control. To be frank none of us own the club or have any power 2 change things so what is the of whinging as nothing will change until the summer.

Just enjoy life, Sit back, Chill with family and explore the world.

The job at Cardiff that “99% of others would have failed in”. Do you realise that when our cult manager took over they were in a precarious position but I don’t believe in the bottom three. More important was that he wasn’t sacked after relegation, the owner bought him nine players and it was only after a further disastrous 7 games in the championship that he actually got the sack. That makes him the failed Cardiff manager. Yet people keep saying give him time.

He is a legend as a player, but should not be manager, I hope he resigns, realising the job is beyond him, rather than be sacked, walk away with dignity.

30 Sep 2019 15:14:04
So, in your own words, he is a legend, yet you can't bring yourself to even call him by his name. Do you refer to Bryan Robson as the failed Boro manager, or Bobby Charlton as the failed Preston manager? It's just childish.

30 Sep 2019 18:26:36

What nonsense, can’t bring myself to even call him by his name. I refer to Ole a lot by his name. He is a PLAYING legend, I was at almost all of his home games and when he scored that goal. I will refer to him how I wish depending on the thread. I don’t need to refer to Robson or Charlton as anything but legends because they are not trying to pretend to be United manager.
