I am sat in a remote place abroad and couldn't see anything of the game last night. Pleased to see Greenwood score and Gomes get a game. I wonder if they will get much time on Sunday though.

A genuine question for those that did see the game, was the result what mattered or was there some good football on show? A year ago the result didn't matter it was all about the entertainment, how was it last night?

Awful performance last night. We shouldve beatem them 3 or 4 nil.

Rashford is so wasteful and hopefully he learns soon or else Martial and Greenwood will take over.

Fred, Dalot and Greenwood were good and aswell as Tuanzebe.

Long story short, we had all the possession but couldn't break them down. 11 men behind the ball.

Redman - The hardest part of football is putting the ball in the net. The game was predictably one sided. Astana defended their penalty box admirably with everyone behind the ball and made it difficult. Sometimes we forget that their are two teams playing but they were well organised and determined. Understandably they showed little appetite to attack but they did manage to create a few opportunities on the counter mainly aided by some suspect defending and poor individual decisions/ mistakes by Utd players.

Whilst Rashford missed a few decent chances only one was a real sitter and I feel some of the criticism has been unduly harsh. We all know his finishing can be inconsistent and this may ultimately prevent him from reaching the real elite level reserved for only the very best footballers. Let's not forget Rashford himself is still only 21, he has other fantastic attributes to his game and time is on his side. From a personal perspective I think he's a brilliant young player with plenty of time to develop and improve.

As for our youngsters Greenwood was probably the pick. On the periphery for much of the game it was a 17 year old that ultimately had the quality and skill to decide the game. From what I've seen he probably needs to play centrally rather than out wide. He strikes me as a box type player, he's very skill-full and when he collects the ball in the box he'll frighten defenders. What sets him apart is he's able to turn both ways and shoot from both feet he's looks a real talent.

Gomes struggled to play in between the lines because they sat so deep but he demonstrated some nice touches and pieces of skill on occasions.

Chong was probably guilty of trying a bit too hard. He was rarely able to beat his man and didn't have one of his better games.

Tuanzebe looked assured and composed but was rarely tested. I think he is an excellent prospect and surely now pushing Lindelof for a starting position.

It was great to see all the youngsters given a chance and they'll improve with experience.

Another day we could have scored 4 goals quite easily. They were happy to sit back, which as a team, Utd struggle to break down teams that set up like this.

James would have had some joy if he had been fit to play.

Ching struggled to beat his man. It was a good learning experience for the lad.

Gomes kept things going and was generally neat in possession.

We won and that's all that counts. Greenwoods goal was very good. A goal like that will boost his confidence.

Marco's Rojo played well. He wasn't really troubled defensively but he put in some great crosses. He may just find playing on Sunday. His lack of discipline that concerns me when he plays.

Crap game against poor opposition who sat with 10 men in there last 3rd .
Early stages of the Europa are almost pointless.

A poor performance at home against a team no one has heard of, greenwood is about the best coming through,
The young kids did OK, don't think chong is ready, matic is too slow and slows everything down.

20 Sep 2019 14:27:25
Maybe the staff know after all just how ready the young ones are. Apart from Greenwood's goal and Tuanzebe not putting a foot wrong, none of the rest looked ready just yet. There'll be games better suited to them than that one.

Phelan looked particularly grumpy, probably at our inability to kill off the game. DLIB’s round up is spot on, great t see the kids get time, som looked ok, some didn’t, we made hard work of scoring, something shots but only 1 goal.

Cheers all.

I thought chong might of gone on loan in summer, gomes Alex and mason all ready for the first team . Not sure about chong to be honest.

21 Sep 2019 11:57:39
Me neither jred, I thought he looked lost on Thursday.

21 Sep 2019 13:19:43
Chong needs a loan. Admirable he wants to fight for a place but regular game time at a level above the reserves would be more beneficial for him.

Agree Mort. Look how Mount and Abraham have blossomed following loans.
