So DDG signs till 2023 with a 12 month option.

My worry is where does this leave Henderson? He won't come back to be second choice. I mean tying dave up is good but i'd now look seriously at any offers that come in for him, regardless. Henderson is going to be great and no doubt will be englands number 1 in a few years.

Stunning, we finally sign DDG up to a new long term deal and yet there’s always a cloud to a silver lining. Perhaps over time Henderson will step up and if DDG is still signed up then we can get a fee. Just a thought.

Grow up AJH, its a very valid point.

16 Sep 2019 19:06:23
Exactly right AJH.

Henderson is 22. Goalies don't hit their prime until their late 20s, early 30s. He's loads of time. I know which one I'd rather have at this time. Maybe also shows all the senior players aren't actually disillusioned with Ole after all.

Maybe DDG will settle again and find his form. He is a top class keeper. Yeah he has had a bad patch, but look at the poor defence he has had in front of him for years. The majority of keepers would have succumbed to the pressure of our leaky defence long before DDG did.

As for Henderson, we don't know how good he will be. He has along way to go to surpass DDG.

16 Sep 2019 19:35:02
Delighted he has signed. I understand the concerns re henderson. He does look like a great talent. We have a season to come up with a plan for him if he has a good season and SU stay up who is to say he won't spend another season there. But ddg has been great for years and with a clear head now can return to his best form. He was too class on Saturday.
If we are to challenge for anything this year we will need ddg to be at his best. We should be all delighted he has signed.

De Gea signing a new deal is an excellent news.
No more uncertainity about it now.
Our back 5 will be stable now.

If Henderson performs like a top GK, we must send him out on loan again and deal with the situation like Chelsea who had the similar situation with Cech and Courtois.

Even if an elite club approaches De Gea, the ball is in our court and we can demand the fee we want.

Selling one of the world's best because a 22 year old with very limited EPL experience might turn out to be great, is a very risky move.

I think we should welcome DDG signing a new contract but I have concerns. It would have been utter folly to have let him go on a free next summer. DDG is probably around his peak and I sense that in a year or so he may well look at Spain again, at least we can get a good fee if so. I have concerns with DDG, brilliant shot stopper but not commanding of his area, a little acquiescent on crosses, nor is he good kicking the ball out. Let’s hope there is a plan for Henderson which if he proves good enough doesn’t mean we lose him. So good we have control of the goalkeeping position and let’s hope there is a good transition plan for DDG in one to two years.

17 Sep 2019 16:29:57
Wow, De Gea has a bad few months and suddenly we need to be shipping him out for a kid who's had a couple of good seasons in he Championship.

Brilliant signing and as someone said, the senior players not disillusioned with Ole, hopefully all pulling in the same direction.

GDS

I think you hope it means that but it isn’t something you can read into it.

17 Sep 2019 19:37:34
GDS, you need to grow up apparently.

17 Sep 2019 22:30:09
Don't read anything into it, GDS. It's only a real, actual action. Get your info from the Daily Mail and other rag gossip, instead. You can come up with any aul guff to back up your viewpoint from them.

Nou/ GDS/ AJH

Most reports say DDG was reluctant to renew his contract unless he was satisfied about the ambition and direction of the club. He didn't want to sign until he was sure United will start challenging for the Premier League again. The amount of money they are now talking about seems very high. So instead of assuming he is not disillusioned, consider that like Rooney the extra £ may well be what persuaded him.

Your where criticising the club only last week for not sorting DDG contract out, and using the fact DDG hadn't committed to club as an example to back up your own view.
Less than a week later it's all sorting . And your still trying to twist it to suit your argument.

18 Sep 2019 14:40:48
I'd say that was the sort of salary expected for our best performer in the last lot of years, and one of our few top-class players. High, but it's all relative. Is De Gea the sort of player who would just stay for a few extra quid? I don't know, but he's in his prime years and surely wants to win some major trophies.

Where did I use DDG not signing to back up my view? As above he was reported as concerned about the ambition of the club. I criticised Woodward for allowing DDG contract to run down as a valuable asset and asked what questions were being asked of the Exec VP in letting assets leave. I don’t recall tying that to my view about the manager. Do quote me as needed.

Nou
We don’t know the terms of the contract, any agreements to leave if. in 12 or 24 months. Is it alien to you that we may have had to pay a premium to overcome his concerns?

18 Sep 2019 16:02:46
No, but I tend to go with what I can see in front of me, rather than guess and surmise.

Your view was that united lack ambition and this was shown by DDG not signing a new contract . Well he now has .
You also questioned why woodward had allowed this to happen . Well he hasn't.

Making things up again to suit your point? Where is the quote of me saying that? Where did I say “United lack ambition and this was shown by DDG not signing a new contract”?

I did say “Why is no one questioning Woodward for losing one multi million pound asset of the business and about to lose another even more valuable one? ” That was Herrera lost to the club and now he has secured DDG very late in the day. You can defend Woodward if that is what you wish, but I won’t after the last 6 years.

19 Sep 2019 11:13:06
Red man I'm not defending Woodward, but you made a big deal about DDG not signing . But he has?
You have posted repeatedly about united lacking ambition. You have actually used reports from the rags above about DDG thinking the club lacked ambition .
But again he has signed.
Or are you suddenly changing your tune and saying the club don't lack ambition?

You didn’t answer the question but asked deflecting questions instead.

I didn’t define ambition as signing DDG, in fact is signing an existing player even a sign of ambition?

Ambition is signing new players with a plan to win leagues and the Champions League. We did sign 3 decent players but fell a long way short and the net transfer budget didn’t stand up to scrutiny for an ambitious club.

He has signed and as I posted above I think we should be happy, yet, we have by all accounts a young English keeper with real potential and I hope there is a plan with him.
