Good morning ed001, thought i'd ask on here as opposed to the red button.
There was some good points raised about the new rule change of being able to recieve the ball from the keeper inside his area now.
Personally i think this is a good rule change. It encourages more playing out from the back. Which is what most want to see.
But it makes the high press moor difficult imo. As the press now needs to be 15 yards further forward at times and that leaves bigger gaps to play around the press.
If teams press higher but don't fully commit or someone is not pulling their weight then its easier to play around.
It was very evident in 4 or 5 games at the weekend. Watching defenders and keepers play in their own box and along the dead ball line scares the be jeezuz out of some but i think its s better spectacle for the fans.
It will be interesting to see how the high pressing teams cope with it and also how teams expose those pressing teams by having the courage and technique and confidence to play around them.
I think its a simple rule change but Monday have quite an impact on the game as a whole and a very positive impact at that.
There will be more end to end action as a result imo.
What are your thoughts mate?

{Ed001's Note - you are right, a lazy press will be more easily exposed, but there is also the chance of it turning the game back to long ball football. Any ball pinged over the top by a team with a quick striker is going to be deadly now. There is no need to be accurate as there is 50 yards of space to hit. So a team can just draw in the press and lump it. Mourinho will love it!}

That's a possibility on occasion but that's pretty easy to defend against.
There will be some cheap goals given away due to errors at the back. Thank god smalling has been put out to grass.

If hitting 50 yard balls into space is the way the games going to go then we have the ideal assistant manager in Phelan. We also have the right coach in Carrick to show the team how hit that ball with a semblance of accuracy. The guy making the calls at Old Trafford is a visionary and ahead of his time!

{Ed001's Note - oh maybe you have hit on something there Oak! Suddenly Phelan and Carrick make total sense. Get Pulis and Allardyce in and you will dominate Europe.}

Did anybody else notice the two Chelsea centre backs constantly stood on the 18 yard line on goal kicks like they weren't allowed in the area?

Is it case of them not understanding the rule change?

14 Aug 2019 14:27:24
I doubt that is the reason wazza. Maybe they just didn't want to play in their own box.
Zuma is like smalling in that regard i. e. totally hopeless. He doesn't want the ball anywhere near his own box unless its 7ft in the air.

Wazza,

Also at one point Christensen waited for the ball to leave the area before he touched it, old habits die hard I guess, or as you say, not understood the rules yet.

Ed01 did you ever the the football manager experiment with allardyce and pulis? I think it was Squawka a few years ago. They put them at Madrid and Barcelona then put it on holiday an let the season play our. Interesting to say the least.

{Ed001's Note - no mate never even heard of that, what happened?}

Ken, I’m not sure what difference it would make being stood 1 yard inside the box. What I mean is they stood right on the line, as if they couldn’t step into the box.

Yes GDS2 that’s what I was thinking. It might take some players a while to adapt to the new rules.

Unfortunately the link no longer works. They both won trophies. Pulis romped la liga with Barcelona an big sam took Madrid to the champions league I think.

{Ed001's Note - Allardyce did say he would win everything if he managed Madrid.}

Ed, me and you would win everything if we managed they fantastic Real players too lol, just hearing the names Pullis and Allerdyce brings me out in a cold sweat, their tactics would get football stopped.

{Ed001's Note - sadly both are likely to be back in the game soon!}

{Ed001's Note - yes mate but I was in bed at the time it was late here.}
