Surely those responsible at United must now sit down and reflect upon their dealings in the transfer window, as any good business must.

And surely a sensible business would look at the models of competitors to evaluate and improve their own practices.

You would hope they would look at Man City: they identified a weakness in their squad and moved quickly and professionally to fix it (Rodri and Cancellao) ; or Arsenal, who knew what they needed and moved to dirt it all out, though maybe not quite as slickly as City.

You would hope that they would reflect that, if you don’t pay the money, you don’t get the player (Msn City seem to always pay up or meet the release clause) - or otherwise start to be seen as a bully by others, maybe even approaching Daniel Levy’s reputation.

Bit you get the feeling that those responsible are square pegs in round homes, more business men than football grounded. Perhaps like having a ruthless businessman in charge of a country who has no political savvy and the chaos that causes.

And you would hope that they would conclude that a Director of Football is desperately refer to join all the dots together, through all the teams and contexts at the club.

Now, I can see that they want to change strategy from getting in mercenary older players to bringing in younger players who will form the basis for a solid future, but surely these are clever people who can see that more needs to change at the club if they are to achieve sustained success in the future?

City don't always pay up and are actually quite disciplined in the market when it comes to the big money acquisitions. How do you think we got maguire, fred and alexis sanchez? City walked away from all these deals because they thought the players were overvalued.

Also its much easier to address their very minimal weaknesses, competition for fernandinho and competition for walker.

The problem for united is that they had so many weaknesses to address, probably up to 5 or 6 and that was just the optimistic and positive fans lol. It was always asking too much for the club to do that in one window and also get rid of the players surplus to requirements.

Weve done well to get a quality right back and a centre back who is better than what we had in some quite key areas. Dan james seems like a punt or pet project for ole so i will reserve judgement on him.

As for arsenal addressing their weakness, is a 32 year old david luiz really that good a signing. If we did that we would have been accused of panicking and thinking short term. Tierney is a promising player but it is still a huge step up he has to make. Ceballos is a tidy player but will be back at madrid in a year in all likelihood. Pepe was very good last season but it is still a lower level and small sample size to go off.

There maybe ok with the 3 signings?

Arsenal's signings are all risky, whereas our signings will slot in straightly.
One thing for sure is the academy lads will feature often.

Surely how successful a transfer window a club has had must come at the end of the season when the players signed can be assessed on their performances?

A players quality is surely measured by performances and not the fee paid for them or who other clubs bought?

If we finish 3rd will everyone say this transfer window was a failure?

I appreciate that we’re still building but maybe having solid foundations will enable the end product have a greater integrity.

Imagine if we had signed Luiz instead of Maguire, not sure people would be saying our window was better then!

09 Aug 2019 11:53:54
Luiz is a much better player then Maguire.

09 Aug 2019 12:04:09
Im not maguires biggest fan singh but that is the funniest thing I've heard all week. Always good to start the weekend with a good joke.

09 Aug 2019 12:19:05
Well you will know who is the better player in a years time.

Maguire has played for Leicester and has only been bought for 80 mill becuase he is english and clubs know that we are desperate.

I have never been Maguire's fan and never will be as he is Smalling and Jones Version 2.0 and slightly better.

The biggest joke is that we spent so much money on him and didn't go for Milenkovic or Dias.

We finally got a defender but got the wrong one and Luiz is a much better player having played for PSG and Chelsea and he can actually defend not run around like a headless chicken like Maguire and will end up losing the ball because Maguire thinks he is a midfielder but he needs to concentrate on defending first.

Singh
Its great to know that you will never be a Maguire fan . And he hasn't even kicked a ball for united.
Red whiskey
I agree it put a smile on my face as well.
Along with the fact Luiz actually defends and doesn't run round like a headless chicken and think his a midfielder . Which is probably Luiz biggest issue.

09 Aug 2019 12:49:25
Singh your joke made my day. Luiz can actually defend? lol.
He is an absolute liability.

09 Aug 2019 13:22:47
Difference of opinion mate. I just have very high standards and wanted someone better then Maguire.

I actually think Maguire was bought to replace Fellaini's height in the box as that is one thing he is good at which is heading the ball.

85 million for heading the ball wow just wow!

Maguire is just as clumsy as Jones and Smalling.

I would love to be proved wrong and wish Maguire the best of luck at our club but i just don't see it happening.

Maguire to replace the wig 👍.

09 Aug 2019 14:41:07
🤪🤪🤪🤪.

09 Aug 2019 15:46:56
Singh, what you smoking? You got your hands on that medical grade stuff?

09 Aug 2019 16:01:29
Luiz is an awful defender.
