If lukaku goes I'm abit suprised we haven't looked at timo werner young quick and scores a lot for rb Leipzig. or if if have looked and people have mentioned him I apologise. what's people's thoughts?

and is absolute OP on fifa haha.

Any striker brought in to replace lukaku will be as a back up to rashford, doubt werner would be up for that.

I think that’s a problem.

Rashford has never given any indication that he can score 20 plus goals a season. If we sell Lukaku we need to make sure that we bring someone who can challenge Rashford for the starting spot, not someone that is happy to sit on the bench. Rashford has no right to feel entitled to be our first choice striker.

rashford has the pace and is very good at holding the ball up

if he can work on his finishing then we don't need to spend big on a striker but that's a massive risk relying on just rashford alone.

maybe in a few years he might have the finishing ability to score 20 plus goals. but i suppose we have show patience.

The club just gave him a 5 year contract on a considerable amount of money and he is one of the few players Solskjaer seems to have complete trust in. He is going to be as close as you can get to a guaranteed starter.

The club would be better off using their resources to bring in a starting right winger so we have a front 3 of martial, rashford and new RW. Lingard, james, greenwood and then a backup striker would make sense to supplement that.

If you don't have a star striker like kane or aguero who will guarantee 25+ goals a season you are better off spreading the load across the front 3 like liverpool have done.

What about martial isn't he our best finisher.

09 Jul 2019 13:42:40
Agree DSG. I think the Lukaku replacement is actually a RW as nobody is going to dislodge Rashford any time soon.

09 Jul 2019 13:48:10
I'm with DSG. There is no obvious signing to replace Lukaku so spend the money on a RW.

Id like us to go for Richarlison, but think its unlikely.

Maybe in Jan or next summer there will be better options available.

Its a season for revolution; quite a few out and quite a few in. The gradual evolution will come after that as the squad settles into a mentality and playing style, which we can buy and sell players to complement.

Its still all a bit up in the air at the minute.

Werner also plays right wing. I'm not suggesting we use a square peg round holes tactic, but if you played rashford, Martial and Werner as a fluid front line surely that would be ideal? To be honest I agree and think it's a smart deal.

Hes young, relatively cheap and is a proven scorer.

09 Jul 2019 14:24:49
I suspect you're comment is a little tongue in cheek, Mort, but I do think he's the more natural finisher of the two.

I agree that Rashford is the clear first choice striker for Ole.

So we either buy a back up/ rotation option who adds something different. Someone like Sebastian Haller could work well in that role.

Or we spend the money on a RW. To be honest if we are to do that I would rather the club wait a year and Chuck everything at Jadon Sancho next summer rather than sign a less talented player this year for of it.

I would be happy going into next season giving Chong and Greenwood some game time, then sign the right player next summer than buy someone who isn't quite right this year.

Sanchez looks like he will stay so no need to replace lukaku imo
Rw needs much more urgent attention.

09 Jul 2019 20:40:51
I understand the concerns we may end up with a lesser player and waiting for Sancho may look appealing but there's quite a few variables in waiting a year, he may have lots of options, he may see his future elsewhere, there maybe lots of teams interested in him, he may love living abroad or he may be injured .
We have looked too lopsided when attacking for too long to just go with the same players down the right again who all seem to be filling in there not specialising .
