so mino has come out and said pogba wants to leave

SHOCK.

lets just hope it doesn't drag and we get the best deal.

whats everyone's thoughts on his replacement, wouldn't be hard to find one tbh

are we trying to sign Fernandez as his replacement?

will we get the 120-150 million being reported?

would love Madison/ neves (although not going ton happen)

either way the transfer window is heating up.

{Ed002's Note - Fernandes is not a Pogba replacement. Certainly Neves wouldn't be either. Ivan Rakitic and Saul are potential solutions.}

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jul 2019 18:11:53
Need to get pogba out before this becomes a saga. I really cannot see him leaving however. Shifting him out and bringing in Fernandes and Saúl would be great business imo.

05 Jul 2019 18:13:07
Saul would be a great signing but will Atletico sell Rodri and Saul in the same window?

05 Jul 2019 18:26:39
Saul would be best.

Maybe we should tell Mino to get De Ligt to sign for us then we will let pogba go to Madrid I am sure he will earn more.

I hope we stick to our guns on price, and us for the money up front, about time we played hardball on transfers.

05 Jul 2019 18:19:32
Ed002, is it true that Saul has a very complicated contract situation involving a Jorge Mendes company called Quality Football?

If so, do you believe a deal to get him to United could be very difficult to get across the line?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Not any longer. Third party ownership is a thing of the past in all but a few countries.}

05 Jul 2019 18:19:53
If Pogba is adamant he wants to leave, then can hand in a transfer request. Raiola wants the best deal for everyone of his players, slap a price tag of £180 million on Pogba. We constantly get bent over a barrel with prices. We need to stand firm on this. It's so disrespectful. If his intentions are to leave, then that's fine. But to have your agent come out and say it to you says everything about him. Get that rat put of the club.

Once again Ed002 you were spot on about the Pogba saga.

05 Jul 2019 18:36:13
Saul would be a fantastic replacement. He will be expensive and I do wonder if he'd actually be allowed to leave Madrid considering some of the players that have already left. And would he even want to come?

05 Jul 2019 18:44:48
Be glad to see the back of Pogba and this saga.
He is a great player but I can’t stand the circus. Just feel it is an unwanted distraction for the other players, the club and fans.

You just don’t have the same media coverage or hype with Salah, KDB, Silva, Eriksen, Kane etc.

Utd should be about a team and not a star player.

Thanks Pogba and no hard feelings but hopefully you get your move and Utd get a decent fee.

05 Jul 2019 18:26:09
ED02 mentioned ages ago that if Pogba were to leave Saul may be an expensive replacement.

ED02 — any idea how much AM would look for?

If we were to sign Fernandes and Saul that would certainly add something to our midfield.

{Ed002's Note - They would look to the €150M that scared of Manchester City and caused them to move for Rodri - and there is no guarantee at all that the player would look to drop down a level.}

05 Jul 2019 18:27:14
ED002 would Saul consider Utd as they are in the Europa league.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know, but there is no guarantee at all that the player would be open to dropping down a level and OGS is hardly a big draw.}

05 Jul 2019 18:39:08
Thanks Ed002, and yes you were right again.

Personally, I believe that Saul would be a fantastic option as long as he would truly want to come and play here.

05 Jul 2019 18:55:52
If/ when Pogba leaves we better call Saul.

05 Jul 2019 18:59:01
How is Saul a perfect replacement of Pogba? He is hardly involved in scoring goals or assisting them.

05 Jul 2019 19:24:05
About time a club stood firm to these agents and players. I would tell pogba he is staying this year get his head down and he can go next year or cry and he will besat in the reserves all season. It wouldn't effect his price and can we really attract a top level replacement when we can only offer mickey mouse thursday night cup.

{Ed002's Note - Players come and go - they are transient employees. Will you be upset with Pinho if Fernandes joins from Sporting? Were you upset with Fellaini's agent when he left?}

05 Jul 2019 19:50:11
Becks most of pogbas goals were pens. And other than his assists he offered very little which

Ed does saul have a similar contract clause like most players in Spain. Like rodi.

I know you don't like talking about the ins and outs of stuff like that.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - All players do in Spain.}

05 Jul 2019 20:12:15
Ed002 you have once again been proven right.

Please, if you were to recommend a replacement for Pogba and also a central defender that would be an upgrade, suit the Man United "way" and not be a saga or bad transfer.

I just wish Manchester United will seek Ed002 for directions on transfers, academy and DoF/ technical roles. When I see the shambles that we are and then the golden words of knowledge from Ed002, aaah! A man can only wish.

{Ed002's Note - Thank you for the kind words. If Manchester United can find a way to sign Saul it would be a terrific move. Ivan Rakitic brings a great deal of experience and he gets a decent number of goals - against him is his age and it being no more than a short term fix - but at the right price he will still be in the frame. Others that have been considered have their pros and cons - Idrissa Gueye is seen as not a great choice by at least one person at MU; Rodri has moved to Manchester City; Carlos Rodriguez makes zero sense; Youri Tielemans has been seen as a cheap CM option if Pogba leaves - a long term favourite of Mr Mourinho again but seemingly heading elsewhere; Giovani Lo Celso has been looked at but after Real Betis signed him and are looking to treble their money (in reality they might be able to double it - but they are asking $75M) it is Spurs who are looking to use the money that will come from a sale to boost their midfield further.}

05 Jul 2019 21:33:31
Hi Ed hope you’re well. Just wondering, with everything you’ve just said, if we have any interest in Milinkovic Savic? I think we did last year and would hope we would consider him as a replacement for Pogba. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Mr Mourinho did.}

05 Jul 2019 21:55:30
I'm just stating facts. I've taken your words places and never been let down. It's a testament to the efforts you put - and all the other Eds. Long may it continue and I wish you all ascension to greater heights.

Thank you so much for the info Ed. I wouldn't mind Saul and Rakitic tbh.

05 Jul 2019 22:52:05
God, I'd give my left nut for Saul.

{Ed002's Note - We will hold you to that.}

05 Jul 2019 23:47:24
Ogs looks like he wants to play a 433 so if u have a holding midfielder and sign Bruno Fernandes who is an attacking midfielder u have to get the balance right and look to sign a central midfielder who can do a bit of both link play and get into the box sometimes and provide assists.

06 Jul 2019 00:19:43
I often wonder what saf thinks of these debacles, never would have happened in his day, shows how astute he was in judgement of players and agents.

06 Jul 2019 05:04:28
Yes under sir alex ferguson a player never came out and openly questioned the ambition of the club and the direction of the team releasing a statement through his agent before a champions league game.

Then got a new 5 year contract. That never happened lol.

06 Jul 2019 06:12:43
I was reading an article which said that 40% of Saul's transfer fee would go to an Irish firm called Quality Football which is run by Mendes and Kenyon.
Then if Athletico go against Quality Football's wishes and don't sell him, Athletico have to pay them compensation, sounds insane but how much of that is true Ed?

06 Jul 2019 09:22:52
You all conveniently miss Ed002’s pertinent point about OGS hardly being a big draw for players. All the talk of Saúl and other top players but I refer to the point I made weeks ago, will they believe OGS can give them the silverware they crave. Many fans don’t think so so I expect players will think the same. So they either come for our history or the money. The decision makers have turned us into Liverpool of 5 years ago, the difference is we don’t have owners who will drive or demand success on the pitch.

06 Jul 2019 07:10:10
So Mino has openly stated that 'everybody' at United are aware of Pogba's desire to leave the club but. has Pogba actually lodged a 'request' to be released? The yes/ no answer to that will affect the selling price and compensation due sale and termination of contract. I've not yet seen a statement suggesting that Pogba has officially asked to leave. Personally I believe given the circumstances he should go.

{Ed002's Note - Why are you making such a big deal of this? You have known about it for a very long time and he is simply a player who wants to move on.}

06 Jul 2019 09:58:44
And don’t forget Red Man, WE DON’T HAVE A PLAN!

06 Jul 2019 10:33:16
AJH

To correct you, OGS may have a plan but is it the right one or are we heading or more like hurtling in the wrong direction? Some decisions seem unbelievable for a well planned club, Ashley Young captain, a long term contract for Pereira, contract decisions on Jones, Smalling.

There needs to be more than a plan, it needs a strategy driven by what the owners want, that defines the plan. But I am sure you knew that.

On Pogba he is likely reticent to put in a transfer request because he would lose millions. There is noise from him and agent hoping we just get rid but on this the club should be firm and he needs to make the request. There will be no shortage of those willing to drive him where he wants to go.

The other point on Pogba is how this impacts our business strategy, losing all those media clicks when he goes. I imagine our sponsors won’t be enamoured either so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a media click opportunity signing at some point.

06 Jul 2019 12:30:49
I was only teasing Red Man, as you say there have been some very odd decisions in recent years.

There’s nothing wrong with extending contracts as long as the salaries being paid still allows us to sell should we want or need to. I like the current approach of young energetic (and hopefully hungry) players but we do need to supplement with experience.

I still hold that Pogba is a problem, as is Sanchez, and it would be better for everyone if they left. Not sure Lukaku is a problem but don’t see him fitting the mould.

We’ve got Wan Bissaka and James, let’s take a punt and say we sign Fernandez and a CB. If Pogba leaves for big money we should immediately reinvest. McT grew into his role last year and will hopefully continue to impress. That would leave up front as a potential problem.

Players come and whilst you have mentioned strategy, I think culture is just as important. Remove the ‘toxic’ players, bring in hungry eager new ones, and the atmosphere changes immediately. Simplistic yes, but also very relevant,

06 Jul 2019 13:45:34
Agree. AJH.

06 Jul 2019 14:30:40
Ed002, I'm nearly 50. It's no use to me any more. I'd maybe even throw in the right one as well.
