I really hope we give harry Maguire a miss,

Yes he would improve our team but for that money you could go and get 2 good players with potential.

How about actually coaching our side to improve rather than trying 70-100 million fixes every year.

James and bissaka are smart business, Maguire is shocking business if they pay that amount.

I agree the fee for Maguire seems far too high. We should be moving onto other CB targets on our list, but we are a Lindelof injury away from starting the season with Jones and Smalling at centre back. That sends shivers down my spine. Squad players that can do a job, certainly. We desperately need a centre back, Leicester don't need/ want to sell Maguire.

I personally would move onto other targets at that price but make no bones about it, if we start the season without an improvement at CB, we're going to struggle.

I wouldn't worry about how much this or that player costs.

I simply don't want Maguire because I don't think he is a great player and there are better ones out there.

No one is considering Tuanzebe as an option, if he was playing for some dutch or french side we would be ready to shell out a huge amount for him.

Maguire might improve us, but for what is being asked for him we could sign Alderweireld (who is twice the defender that Maguire is) AND one of Milenkovic, Dias, Diop etc.

Then we would have those two new CB's Lindelof, Bailly and Tuanzebe who could be ahead of Smalling and Jones.

Although Alderweireld is a short term option, maybe he is the best option. A back line of AWB, Alderweireld, Lindelof and Shaw suddenly looks like one of the best defences in the league.

That would give us a year or two for Tuanzebe to bed in or if not then scout the next great young CB and bring them in.

If tuanzebe was that good he would he playing.

He obviously isn't at the standard for the first team.

{Ed001's Note - that is one of the most stupid comments ever made on here. Whether a youngster is in the team or not is no way to judge their ability. Especially stupid when the youngster in question was on loan so impossible to play.}

03 Jul 2019 13:13:31
Centre back is an incredibly difficult position to play at the top level at a young age. Especially if he was thrusted into our back 4. Tuanzebe is doing the right thing getting experience at different levels. He's well thought of and hopefully can get a loan move to a team in the Premier League. Even another year playing week in week out in the championship would do him no harm.

03 Jul 2019 13:20:38
@Ed001

And not to mention the fact that he had such an excellent season on loan that every Villa fan wants him back?

I really don't get why we are going for someone like Maguire when an experienced leader who is a short term fix like Alderweireld would immediately improve us AND allow Tuanzebe to be introduced into the team after a year on loan in the EPL to gain experience.

The entire outlook seems flawed and the club is screaming out for a director of football who can look at such a longer term strategy.

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate, poor recruitment strategy has been killing the club since the final days of Ferguson.}

03 Jul 2019 13:21:33
I agree on Tuanzebe he's not ready to come into the team yet. I watched quite a lot of him at Villa last season and it's way too early for him to be considered a starter for us. Best option would be to loan him out to Villa again and see how he handles the pressure of premier league football.

03 Jul 2019 14:18:16
That's the main problem, poor recruitment. We have had very heavy investment and naff all to show for it. I hope those who have been guilty of that same recruitment aren't still steering the ship so to speak.

@Ed001

I hope they get this summer right. Arsenal don't have the budget to improve and Chelsea have just lost Hazard and have a transfer ban. Fix the midfield and sign a good center back and we should make top 4.

{Ed001's Note - you are not that far off, you just have to sign players that fit the way you play, and with an idea how to use them.}

03 Jul 2019 14:47:52
@Ed001

Some of the players we've been linked with are encouraging. Fernandes / Maddison (would prefer Maddison but he will be highly priced), Longstaff and hopefully a CB and we should be in business.

I would've preferred us letting Pogba go to get in Tielemans by now (although from some of your previous posts I see that you aren't a fan) .

03 Jul 2019 16:04:17
regardless of age or ability if he was ready he would be in the team and we wouldn't be going after another center half if he's had such a good season.

im not knocking his ability and i don't doubt he might become a good player but people are banging on about he should be in the team now

and the fact is he ain't good enough to now.

hense my stupid answer.

{Ed001's Note - that is simply not true. It might be someone's opinion he is not ready, it might be that his face doesn't fit or that it is someone else completely that is being replaced, not him. You are just spouting opinion as fact.}

Has anyone stopped to consider Toby Alderweireld doesn’t want to come?
