Hi all

Can any of the Regular posters or the Ed's clear this up for me.

Would MUFC and OGS be willing to sell either Phil Jones or Chris Smalling this window?

I am hoping this is the case but with MUFC penny pinching APU, I can bet they would avoid selling to purchase just to save money. and feel the Chuckle brothers can din.

I think its less of a case of penny pinching and more of a case that ole sees some sort of benefit in keeping the chuckle brothers around. What that benefit could be is baffling to me.

I guess you can say they have experience and have won trophies at the club even if their premier league medals came when they were on the periphery of the squad.

The centre back they will look to get rid of is marcos rojo but that doesn't seem to gaining any traction.

On another note can anyone honestly say we have been penny pinching recently, we have like the third highest wage bill in world football. The quantity of money spent isn't the issue, its the quality of recruitment.

It's a lack of forward planning with the contracts. We have too many CBs with Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Lindelof and Bailey. Rojo will leave, but if we are to sign a top centre back this window, then one of the other 4 should also be sold. Lindelof is currently our best defender, Smalling and Jones only signed long term contracts so that points to Bailey leaving.

Since Ole took over Young, Jones and Smalling have signed new deals. Now I know Ole doesn't have a complete say in contract renewals but he should have been asked who he fancies.

I'd imagine we gave Jones a new contract to protect his value. But the main problem is now, we have a player that is on a high wage that no other team will touch. So instead of cutting your losses and letting him go for free. We tie him down to a 4 year contract on 120k a week and I'll bet dollars to donuts that he sees out at least 3 of those years.

Our wage bill is the third highest in the world because we keep giving average players bumper deals. I can't see a plan or a strategy. Tie up Young, Jones and Smalling. Let De Gea, Herrera and Mata run down their contracts. And then in the 11th hour, sign Mata up for a few more years, sure why not?

Cheers DSG

It posted before I finished and I said that OGS and the board must feel they can do a job? . I'm also very baffled as to why hold on to them? They have to be seeing what we all see whilst studying reports and stats which can't be impressive to warrant the new contracts? .

Penny pinching, really? Open your eyes.

If we don't sell Jones this summer then he will probably outlast woodward.

To be honest if we sign another CB this year to pair successfully with Lindelof then having Smalling and Jones signed as backup makes perfect sense. Bring Tuanzebe through as either competition this year or loan out to Villa to get experience in PL and challenging next year.
We can't clear everyone out in one window but if the above works out it will make sense. Then clear then out in future windows.
It's a long season with full squad needed.
