Rumours that rashford is deliberating over a new contract as he is concerned about the direction of the club.

Good on him i say, judging by the general mood of this forum and the mood of united fans in general, we all seem concerelned about where the club is going.

One of the few players i actually like in this united team, played through an injury against liverpool, played with a strapped shoulder against chelsea and one of the few who has improved year on year.

The club should be doing everything to keep him.

Sorry but disagree totally. Think because he is manc born and bred he gets a free pass off many. I think he has gone backwards this season. i'm not going to slate the lad as he’s young and needs to develop but is he another who thinks he’ far better than he actually is. Time will tell but not convinced.

18 May 2019 13:54:56
But he's home grown, so he must be rubbish.

18 May 2019 14:02:41
Agree Blackpool Red. I think it's disgusting and as for any of the rest of the team, if they want to leave then don't let the door hit you on the way out. Otherwise, they should shut up and play like their lives depended on it.

18 May 2019 14:17:18
To be honest I'm sick of hearing this 'he gets a free pass because he's english/ manc/ local/ academy'rubbish. Search his name, or lingard or mctominay on this site. They've taken absolute pelters this season. So hardly getting a free ride.

Going on to these supposed comments. Its in a newspaper known for printing absolute cobblers 90% of the time. To steal a phrase from someone else when these same papers say we're signing so and so do you rush out an buy a shirt with their name on or reach for the salt.

Stop being so gullible for starters.

18 May 2019 14:17:43
Or Stevie, he must be the second coming because he is home grown.

18 May 2019 14:19:29
Agree with Blackpool red, if its true, its an example of a player thinking to much of himself. He has the potential to be a top striker, but after a season when he has been outscored by Lukaku and the strikers from most other teams like Mitrovic at lowly Fulham, he needs to improve his own game before worrying about Uniteds direction.

18 May 2019 14:36:43
UA, it's an English club with a history of bringing local lads through the academy. It's one of the things that sets our club apart from others, in good times or bad.

I wish the club had more players from Northern Ireland playing for it, but I appreciate that as an English club, there should be a core of English players there.

Otherwise, it may as well just be a franchise. Or Arsenal.

18 May 2019 14:37:38
Towards the end of the season the players played like they didn’t believe in what OGS was asking, Rashford included, it looked like he stopped putting everything in. However, no player should hold the club to ransom over the manager, no matter whether they are right or wrong. An example needs to be set and Rashford needs to be told he is available for transfer unless he accepts the managers decisions and signs a contract. Sell him next week if needed, no player is bigger than the club.

I share his concern, if indeed he has any, over the manager but it is the sort of problem that needs to be dealt with firmly. Pandering to the players saw the last manager leave and whilst I think OGS shouldn’t be there, it should not be seen as the players decision to make or to force the hand of the club.

18 May 2019 14:37:56
He is yet to outscore Joshua King and wants more money? Kick such players out of the club.

18 May 2019 14:47:08
All ridiculous posts. Just leave it be and see what OGS can do with this lot under a full ore-season and adding players he wants to this average squad.

18 May 2019 14:47:22
I'm with Mort on this one. The homegrown lads take ten times the amount of stick as our other signings do.

Rashford, Lingard, McTominay have taken peters all season. Yet Pogba, Martial, Lukaku, Matic etc get half the amount of abuse even though most of them are vastly more experienced on vastly higher salaries and should be the ones carrying the team.

Of our current squad no player has scored more winning goals in semi finals and finals than Jesse Lingard. That's not just for United, that is including national teams and previous clubs.

Yet he gets peters every week.

Our best performance this season was away to PSG. McTominay was key to that performance. He was also one of only a couple of players to come out of the Barcelona tie with any respect in tact. Yet many want him replaced in the first team. Many still think he was only promoted to the first team to have a dig at Pogba.

The homegrown lads suffer twice as much scrutiny as any of our signings. How anyone can blame them for what has happened this season ahead of supposed top level professionals such as Sanchez, Pogba and Matic is beyond me.

{Ed004's Note - I agree with a good bit if what youve said but cant agree with you having Pogba in your list of players that arent criticised... I honestly dont think ive seen a more criticised player in the premiership. Utd fans and the media have probably driven him out of the premiership.}

18 May 2019 15:01:16
Agree with DSG and Mort here.

Rashford has taken plenty of stick, and unfairly imo.

We’ve spent obscene amounts of money yet a local lad is expected to lead from the front and carry the team. Sanchez probably earns 7 x Rashford’s salary but doesn’t get half the abuse (though he does get some) .

I fear for these promising youngsters we have coming through, it won’t be long before the knives are out.

Rashford carries the team best he can. He’s young and has plenty of time to develop.

Surround him with better, experienced players and he will flourish. Barcelona seem to be sniffing around, but perhaps some on here know better.

18 May 2019 15:15:05
Yh i agree with ed004 pogba gets most stick in the premeir league now that raheem sterling is in everyones good books.

18 May 2019 15:25:55
Ed004, I'm not saying other players don't get criticism. They do, but for some reason our homegrown lads are held to a higher level of expectation.

Pogba has probably taken more criticism from outside of the club. Yet many United fans would rather get rid of Rashford, McTominay and Lingard long before they would show Pogba the door. That speaks volumes about the lack of support our academy lads get.

I wonder how long it will be before Greenwood, Gomes, Chong and Garner are getting abuse for not being the finished article or for not carrying the side as 21 year olds.

{Ed004's Note - I will support every player that puts the Urd jersey on but can you honestly tell me you think Rashford (current form), Lingard and McTominary are good enough for a side that aspires to be top of the premiership? Would any of them get into City or Liverpools teams? I really like Rashford and McTominay too but thats not going to cloud my opinion on their footballing abilities. Pogba is defended because hes probably our only potentially world class player who has just been voted into the team of the season by his fellow pros. I think its bs saying our homegrown players get more stick than others in that side, Young, Jones, Rojo, Darmian are constantly slated on here before a balls even kicked, theres internet parodies about smalling and jones and Lukaku, Sanchez etc are never out of the media for one reason or another. If anything Rashford being English has given him a get out of jail card for how poor he was final few months of the year}

18 May 2019 19:02:42
Ed4 my sentiments exactly I think our English home grown players have had criticism and rightly so but far less than pogba. I also agree they are not good enough for a team aspiring to be top of the league again, for me squad players at best.

{Ed004's Note - I like each of Rashford, Lingard and Mctominay but only one of them is potentially good enough to be a starter for us if we want to be competing with the best}

18 May 2019 19:54:35
"Our best performance this season was away to PSG". Ok Shappy after this line of yours i will stop taking your posts seriously. I always thought, even though we disagree on a lot of things, that you had football knowledge, which now i doubt.

Did you even watch that game? We didn't even play for 88 minutes in that game.

18 May 2019 20:39:17
i disagree. mctominay was actually very good. i don't like the negativity around him from many on here, he's a very talented footballer, he's united through and through, and i would make him captain.

{Ed004's Note - If McTominary is our captain next season then hopefully fans dont complain in their droves when we finish outside the top 4 again. I really like him, united through and through, but he is not good enough to be leading our midfield yet}

18 May 2019 21:29:38
Driven Pogba out of the league? He doesn't want to be here anyway and would probably use it as an excuse fir when he does get his way.

Rashford was clearly carrying an injury the last few games.

18 May 2019 23:16:03
All of the reply’s to the “rashford quotes” nobody responds to morts post that it’s all bs from the worst paper in England! His brother/ agent has even said its bull. The lad is young and had a 7 outa 10 season. if we had him in a fergie side where he wasn’t carrying the can for his mistakes he would be allowed to flourish. Not because he’s English but because he’s a young talent he should be given time.

19 May 2019 06:38:58
Bias for academy lads will be our downfall.

19 May 2019 07:04:42
Becks, like it was under Busby? Or Ferguson?

We have only ever been successful under two managers, both built their success on a backbone of academy players.

So why would mimicking the only thing that has brought us success be our downfall?

And don't give the ridiculous excuse that "times have changed" or "football has moved on". There was 16 years between Sir Matt retiring and Sir Alex being appointed, and 40 years between when Sir Matt was appointed and Sir Alex.

Football is always moving forwards and changing. It is now, and it was then. A core of academy lads either in the first 11 or supporting the first 11 is a key element in what we will need to do to be successful again.

19 May 2019 08:12:29
Shappy
I wouldn't waste your time .
I hate the " he wouldn't get in the x y z" phrase. Ridiculous comment that completely ignores teams, tactics other players a million and one things and smacks of nothing but the football manager or fifa 19 mentality.
The sites gone mad.

19 May 2019 19:45:08
First of all we have to stop living in the past, and it is completely evident that Rashford is an average footballer. He was unable to shine under two successful managers of all time, let's see how he does under a manager who plays according to his assistant's tactics.
