With our new manager one foot on the plane to Manchester, I ask myself what has he seen in United to take over at this stage of the season.

It could be a rough ride ahead as he gets to grips with his new players and building them in a team without any significant additions till next year will surely test his abilities as a manager.

He sees one of the biggest clubs in the world with a new team in charge of the club, a huge opportunity to turn an underachieving club into a great one. The squad is pretty good, a lot better than ETH was getting out of it, he is known for bringing young players through and we have 4 or 5 in the academy who will likely be in and around the first team in 2-3 years. We also have the DM that he built his team around at Sporting a couple of years ago so that’s a good start.

Maybe he's seeing himself as the new Mourinho, having proved himself in Portugal, he now has an opportunity to do so in the biggest league in the world. The new management team will have to give him a bit of time to put the pieces together, to clear out the highly paid non-contributors, and to replace them with those who fit his preferred style. We're pretty much at rock bottom so he has the benefit of us having only one direction to go. So I think he'll have a decent grace period from supporters as well as management. Yes, given the last 12 years it's a big risk, his reputation could be dealt a severe blow like Potter's, but if he's successful he will be set for life. He's clearly a man of great ambition and that's just what we need.

I think getting guys like kobe, yoro, mount, shaw will help him a lot. Its hard enough taking over a new team new league but a big squad will help him pick players who adapt better than others to what he wants to do.

LOL. Eric had virtually the Ajax team he built. and every other player he could muster from the Dutch league and I remember someone on here saying how good Eric is at bringing through youngsters! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, he is taking over a awful squad, he needs to be a magician to get this lot clicking, strikers who are not strikers of any worth, slow ponderous defenders.

There is an awful lot of work to do, but the plus side is it just not possible to get any worse and can only get better, least the football should be more easy on the eye.

Our squad is not terrible. Also be fair ETH did bring through Garnacho / Mainoo and Amad into the first team and am sure he has had input into the u21 and u18 teams who are doing well.

Ah taskestime is Maze isn’t he, maybe just be a little less obvious and you’d get away with it. Erik brought through Mainoo and Garnacho, 2 of the best things he did in his tenure.

The squad isn’t awful, not even close to awful, he’s got decent players in every position, a few injuries that might come back but it’s a decent squad and I’m excited to see what he can get out of them. For the first time in ages I’m looking forward to going to a game.

Agreed. It’s a half decent squad. Far better than the league position suggests, especially if coached a lot better.

Looking forward to a marked change in playing style and overall application. Obviously need goals so hopefully the guys up front hit their strides.

Bought through Garnacho and Mainoo! Seriously, maybe he could have coached Garnacho to put away the amount of chances he gets then! And Mainoo gone backwards this season! And both been in the team up till injury to Mainoo and where that got us!
