So there are reports that Ronaldo has been a dressing room disaster and has caused issues and divides within the team to the extent that the club are exploring cancelling his contract.

I wonder how much of last season he was responsible for?

Many United fans have said he was the only bright spark of last season and have asked the question of where would we have been without his goals.

Yet the proof is that upon signing Ronaldo the team went from 2nd to 6th and had our worst ever EPL season. We created less chances, scored less goals, had less possession, conceded more goals, in fact we saw massive declines in just about every metric with Ronaldo in the team.

I will always love Ronaldo for the player he was when first at the club, but it's as clear as day that his return has been nothing short of an absolute disaster and the sooner we can draw a line under this whole fiasco the better for both the short and long term future of our club.

If Ronaldo was the main issue at the club, then we'd be in a much better place than we are.

Agreed it has been a disaster, the club should mutually agree to cancel his contract and end it there but they're still under the impression that a European club will pay a fee for him which is unlikely.

Last summer showed how insecure as a club we had become, if we supposedly had a plan we should have stuck to it and let him join another club even if it was man city.

I think ETH if asked in private would love to see the back of him, its an unnecessary sideshow to what is going to be a long season of poor results.

We can say the same about Varane and Sancho too.
Let's sell both of them as well.

Shappy logic.

The papers, that generally fill their pages with speculative BS, are saying some things about Ronaldo (that the club has denied) .

If we take the completely unverified claims from the papers as absolute truth, how much of club’s appalling season can we blame on the guy who scored all the goals?

No one will pay his wages. He will be difficult to shift even if we agreed to pay a bulk of it.

6.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 10:47:56
If he does not want to be here they should let him go as long as he is willing to forgo his wages. Its a no brainer imo.

the team was never 2nd place quality stop deluding yourself, Liverpool had their entire defense out for the entire season, chelsea and spurs had a rubbish ton of C.V. and was missing 7-8 players for the entire season.

Exactly Rohan…just that Ronaldo the big name to make the scapegoat.
Sancho been rubbish Varane been waste of time, and Shappy let’s also bring in the fact that probably the worse two managers the club ever had in there history coincided with Ronaldo… Ole and RR both had no clue…. But let’s forget about real facts and you make up your own, it’s not Sanch it’s not Varane, it was not Ole or RR… it’s all Ronaldo……… because the name sells papers and gets clicks let’s blame him.
Take out Ronaldo and put Kane there for instance, you really think the last 2 games would have ended any different.

Also these top players like Ronaldo no matter how you put it, are always bigger than the club.

Look at Messi at Barcelona, Mbappe at PSG
And Lewandowski can't exactly remember what season but when they lost some champions league final he was fighting with his team.
Don't think Zlatan was a lovely person at our club.
Neymar and Cavani were fighting at PSG.
Best players will have bigger egos.

If I was Ronaldo, even I'd be kicking stuff, not wanting to sit at a table with fred and McTom and others making a fool at the dinner table making videos looking happy posting pics. I'd be livid and might as well get in a fight.

Maguire as a captain giving a pep talk will make my cry.

Shaw having his fried chicken while others have the most bland healthy foods.

Do you really think Ronaldo, became world class just by accident? Don't you think he can see what happens in the squad, and the owners?

What we needed was 5-6 players at start of the window, new players that make half of the starting 11, 3-4 older players and suddenly it's a new XI. We failed at it.

15 Aug 2022 11:20:27
RR had a clue, he was supposed to manage them to learn them better and then decide on transfer strategy next year.
But when he said we need 6-10 players, Glazers were like no, we finished 2nd not long ago the squad is great, you can go Ralf to Austria.
We will fool ETH and spend 1 more year like this taking 20-30m more in dividends.

I was thinking about this driving to work this morning.

I’ve been a fan of Ronaldo over the years, but let’s be absolutely clear…. there’s only one priority in Ronaldo’s life and that’s him. All this stuff about loving United is utter BS. The facts of the matter, if he loved United so much he wouldn’t have left the first time, he left for Real because he saw it as a better way to win the Ballon D’or. If he loved us so much he’d have stayed and become a United lifer like Giggs or Scholes. Also, he’d have signed for City if we hadn’t offered him a s*** ton of cash.

Get rid of him through whatever means. Yeah he scored goals last year, but would another player have done the same?

Bruno ain’t been the same since Ronnie came back either, probably having Portuguese poison dripped in his ear.

{Ed014's Note - he was offered to City and they didn’t want him

Danny, It's not just the press today or even just the mainstream media. There have been rumours going back since he signed that he was a bone of contention amongst the squad.

He supposedly fell out with Maguire and created a split with the Portuguese players on one side backing Ronaldo and the English players on the other backing Maguire.

Against Brentford EtH told the players to go the the away end to the fans after the final whistle, Ronaldo shrugged his shoulders and walked off with it looking very frosty between him and the manager.

There are other rumours about Ronaldo being aggressive and shouting at players in training, sulking in the dressing room if the team aren't winning and generally being a prima donna around the club.

So it's not like its just one report, its many over a period of time. Ask yourself why Juventus were so keen to shift Ronaldo that they accepted 13m for a player they bought for 100m, just two years into a four year contract.

This is a player with 39 goal involvements in his first year at Juventus (28 goals, 11 assists) and 44 goal involvements in his second year (37 goals and 7 assists) .

That would suggest they probably didn't want to get rid of him for his impact on the pitch.

Dididido, Maybe not but it was a team that had back to back top 4 finishes. The drop off in performances were clear between the end of the 2020/ 21 season and the start of the 2021/ 22 season. Ole was the manager during both seasons, the squad was mostly the same, maybe other teams had better seasons, but that doesn't account for the drop off in our clubs performances. We didn't play worst against the likes of Leeds and Southampton because Liverpool and Chelsea were playing better football.

We went for collecting 74 points, scoring 73 goals and conceding 29 in 2020/ 21.

To collecting 58 points, scoring 57 and conceding 57 in 2021/ 22.

That has nothing to do with other teams at the top end of the table playing better, but entirely due to our own performances not being good enough. We conceded significantly more goals, and scored significantly fewer goals.

15 Aug 2022 11:41:10
Swiss, if we signed Kane instead of Ronaldo I think last season and this season would have gone differently. Would we be a world class team? No. But I think we would play more as a team and our confidence wouldn't be rock bottom.

Ronaldo is not the sole cause of the problems at the club, they stem higher up and over a much longer timeframe. However, he isn't the solution either and he isn't helping to make thing better, just worse.

Like I said I still love Ronaldo for what he has given me while wearing a United shirt, and I will still remember him fondly. Yet anyone who thinks his return has been a success needs to remove their head from his backside and breath in some fresh air.

15.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 11:48:56
You’re still talking purely in terms of speculation. There is no concrete evidence that Ronaldo is a source of discontent in the dressing room, let alone the primary source.

You made an unsubstantiated claim to make a bigger unsubstantiated claim about Ronaldo being the main cause of the poor season. How he behaved on Saturday as nothing to do with the team’s performance last year.

It’s clear that he wants out of the club, and should be moved on ASAP. But blaming him for the problems at the club is simply nonsense.

16.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 11:49:18
I didn't see anything at all last season to be considered a bright spark. Maybe only the emergence of Elanga in that we found a useable academy player, without him setting things alight.

Ed014

I think city would have won the cl with him. He is a big personality but that city team would have been perfect for him and his ego. Would have probably scored 30 goals for them. His wage is nuts and we are the village idiots.

{Ed014's Note - don’t think Pep felt he suited their style of play mate hence why they said no.

Would have been interesting to see how it worked out if he’d gone there.

18.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 11:57:53
Shappy: Kane would not have made one iota of difference, he couldn’t pull a barge.

Ed14: I stand corrected. However, I’m sure had they wanted him he’d have gone!

{Ed014's Note - absolutely mate, he got his agent to ask the question before he came to you.

15 Aug 2022 12:22:55
Even on a short term basis, i hope we sign a striker and people don’t moan about not good enough. Its late in the window and very limited options. This must be the worst start for a new manager with a squad like ours and the challenge on his hand to have a personality like ronaldo not show up for pre-season and also wanting a transfer.

All top 5 sides look stronger than last year and have done the bulk of their business. It will be a tough season. A couple of clean sheets would do wonders. Win ugly baby.

20.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 12:28:25
Your making it up as you go along, OK he don’t want to stay, yes they should sell him. if they can!

But listen to yourself you and virtually everyone on here says McGuire is useless and should be dropped, and now because you heard some speculation that Ronaldo virtually said the same to McGuire, that’s a stick to beat Ronaldo with…. your beyond help

Let’s be fair Sancho is an ego waiting to happen, Varane is waste of time, Martinez is no better, McFred useless, full backs very poor, Rashford out of form, ETH trying to do something! But the problem is Ronaldo. LOL.

21.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 12:31:02
Diddidido - United finished 2nd and somehow it doesn’t count. Liverpool finish 2nd and they are the greatest team who walked the earth. You sure you’re on the right page mate?

Everyone knows Ole wasn’t cut out for the job. But United went from 2nd to 6th following Ronaldo signing. Other variables too of course as any disaster is multi factorial by definition.

But Ronaldo signing meant we had to adapt our play. Unlike for Varane and Sancho who signed same time and were both planned. Ronaldo signing wasn’t.

Ronaldo has to go. Legend that he was once you put in a transfer request then goodbye.

I’d rather someone pay us at least the £13m we paid Juve for him but ain’t going to happen.

If he’s that bad a disruption in the dressing room he should go.

Let’s not forget Ronaldo has previous form in leaving us. All this I love the club is just crap. He’d have loved City if Pep had said yes to his £500k a week wage demands. He didn’t and we are where we are.

22.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 12:39:44
It's a simple fact. The acquisition of Reinaldo was followed by our worst season ever in the EPL. Coincidence? Maybe. Other factors? For sure. But I don't see how one can dispute that ever since the I year flash in the pan success of RVP United have been avoiding dealing with underlying issues by acquiring short term fixes. Schweinsteiger, Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Falcao loan, Sanchez, Matic, Who did we buy to replace Scholes, Giggs, Keane, Cantona etc? Our transfer business has been appalling and misguided, and whatever you think of Reinaldo, his acquisition this time was just the last of a long line of mistakes. A last minute hit and hope devoid of any strategic plan.

23.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 12:50:06
Clearly you can't read. 3 of the main contenders for top 4 had 6 to 8 key players out for the season, its not rocket science to understand why utd finished 2nd with Mourinho who had a huge squad in numbers compared to todays squad. Mourinho knows how to get results, but you guys want the fergie way which is impossible with the current players.

24.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 13:04:37
Varane for me was another horrendous buy. We haven’t done an ounce of due diligence it would seem. Everyone can see he’s got the breaking strain of a Kit Kat, he can’t even train properly if reports are to be believed because he’s so brittle.

Do teams like Real Madrid let their best players go? Do they heck. Same as another poster said about Ronaldo. Those players were taken by us because there were underlying issues for sure. We were that gullible we took both with open arms.

25.) 15 Aug 2022
15 Aug 2022 13:21:06
Halesini

I don’t think recouping the transfer fee is a factor here, it was a 2 year deal and we take a small hit on the books. Getting rid of 25 mill in wages would be a win but no one will pay that.

If he wants to go because he wants cl football or a better team. Terminate your contract at no cost to us and off you go.

26.) 15 Aug 2022

Shappy…. your like Neville just shouting rubbish, think if you say it enough and loud enough that wins your arguement…. People don’t fall for that any longer.
