not a popular opinion but I miss RR, not RR the manager of course but i give him a free pass there- he was like a headmaster with a phd in History stepping into the geography teachers job for 6 months while shes on maternity leave.

Look at the list of 5 players he has as must have signings this summer -clear, precise thought out to get the best players for the right position with an eye to potenial future value. WOuld have been a lot more of that to come if he had gone upsatairs.

A proper football man.

Completely agree.

Rangnick as a managerial appointment playing wise was a disaster but I put that down to him lacking direct management experience the previous decade and the interim nature of the role. I think it would have been a different story if he was a permanent appointment, accepting last year would still have been a write-off.

Called a lot of these dossers out!

But he chose to manage Austria.

Halesini, put it down to shower he had to manage. So many out of contract, so many with huge egos, the majority who can't cut it at this level.

It's supposed to be a new dawn under ETH, yet last week's match was worse than what I had seen in RRs time.

It's not on the coach, it's on those players and the shambles upstairs.

If we had bought RR in as DoF which was his r3cent background over last decade I would have been very happy but we didn't. We bought him in as manager for 6 months and promoted Murtagh to DoF.

What did he say. Its no good fixing small things here and there. The club needs open heart surgery.

As a DoF he'd have been excellent, he didn't work as a manager.

Certainly far more experience and has a far wider array of contacts then the current incumbent.

We brought RR in as a consultant, asked him to review where we were and make recommendations. He hit the nail on the head but then inexplicably we had yet another change of direction, didn’t follow through, changed of the type of players we were looking for. RR recommended strong hungry young players to grow into the club with the right mentality. We decided not to listen and to employ someone from the Dutch league and go in a complete change of direction. I don’t think people grasp how big a change that was, how did the board literally turn 180 degrees? . It shows how shallow the decision makers are.
RR should have been listened to, instead we just disappear down another alley.

Jury’s out on John Murtough. They’ve known for a long time this summer was the summer to sort the squad out. Didn’t back Ralf because he was an interim and not much progress.

Why did RR not stay on does anyone know the facts. Not speculation but the facts why he left.

Only those in the boardroom will know facts, or perhaps Rafa Benitez.

However, if RR made recommendations which were blatantly ignored, quite likely on the structure, the manager and players why would he stay?

Because Ten Haag did not want RR, that’s why, so Ten Haag made the best decision on that he has made thus far, let’s hope he now buys some decent players and can coach to the level required in the premier, because at the moment jury is out and waiting!
