Why are we still chasing De Jong? He would, clearly, rather stay in Barcelona, who are trying to rinse us for as much as they can so they can replace him with City's Silva.

Are we mugs? Move on. Is he really that good anyway?

like Di Maria all over again. why are chasing players who don't want to come to us.

Are you new to transfers?
The bigger Twitter transfer gurus say it's very close. Add-ons are being talked about.
The president didn't come and out say we want to sell him to make sure he gets good money.

I don't think most fans are capable of being objective about players moving and the reasons for why they move.

As fans we'd all give our left nut to play for United and we often feel that players should feel the same way.

The difference is that players aren't fans, they are professionals making career based decisions.

As such they will care about how much money they make, who they will be working with, the location of where they will work, the ambition of the employer and the chances of success at that employer.

Given the clubs current slump I'd have to seriously question a players intelligence and/ or their ambition if they were willing to join United without any idea about how the team was going to play, what their role in that would be, how the club intends to challenge for trophies and what are the realistic chances of that.

If you're happy to join United with no plan for you and your development, or with no clear idea about how the club will push to become relevant again and win the big tournaments then you MUST be stupid or are only interested in a big pay packet.

Our problems on the pitch all stem from players lacking intelligence and ambition.

You wouldn't give your left nut you said you wouldn't sign for united.

{Ed014's Note - surely not changed his story again, god forbid!

Ken, if I was making an intelligent decision rather than an emotional one then no I wouldn't sign for United.

If you have a choice of playing for a club that over the past ten years has failed to help players develop and improve, has failed to challenge for top honours and has only regressed consistently for 10 years.

Or the choice to play for a club that has consistently improved players over the past 10 years, and has consistently challenged for top honours over the past 10 years.

Then the only intelligent choice is the latter and not the former. That's just common sense, something most fans are incapable of when it comes to their own club.

rohanarora8 - it doesn't change the fact he doesn't want to leave Barca.
It's exactly the same as the Di Maria debacle, Real wanted money to buy Bale, Di Maria didn't want to come.
I have no idea why you would want to spend 60 million plus on a player that doesn't even want to come. it's madness!
Surely you don't get the best out of a player when he doesn't even want to be there?

I think most on here would give their left nut to play for United but appreciate the comment that very few players would share that view. Players are just employees of a company at the end of the day. They will more likely want to work for Google than Halesini Search Engines Limited I'm sure. And at the moment City and Liverpool are the Google of the football world and we are the latter. United are still a big club but a less attractive on now than a decade ago for sure. Liverpool were in the wilderness for ages though and came back. It is possible. And whilst financially they did exceptionally well from sales of Coutinho and to a lesser extent Suarez they invested that money incredibly well, buying a world class centre half and keeper. They have also made some exceptionally well judged purchases I would say in Salah, Mane and one that goes under the radar a little for me in Fabinho.

United need to 'do a Liverpool' but we have taken the first step in signing a very highly regarded manager who plays attractive football. I'd say Klopp had a higher profile at Dortmund as he had won their league and got to the UCL final. Ten Hag winning his own slightly weaker league and UCL semi-final. Whatever happens this summer though regarding new recruits, we have already made our best signing.

Promoting from our youth ranks can't be underestimated too. We already have Garnacho and Fernandez receiving heaps of praise and they may well break into the first team squad now under Ten Hag. Garner has developed from his stint at Forest and is another who you'd expect plenty of first team action for along with Mejbri.

Just as it took Klopp until his 4th season with Liverpool to start challenging I expect the same of United. Its well noted that Ten Hag is looking to players he's already managed but he is also looking at younger players. I think Frenkie at 25 is the oldest we have been linked to and again I see that as a positive sign.

I don't think Ten Hag will have an issue with Ronaldo wishing to leave. He will turn 38 this season so hardly going to be the lynchpin of a side that can challenge in a few seasons time. Equally Maquire and Varane may be options now for defence but we need younger reinforcements.

There is far greater chance of winning silverware at City and Liverpool for sure. And they have and will attract many great talents. City have Haaland and Phillips now. I strongly suspect Bellingham will be a Liverpool player next season. But United are a project for the future now but still a big club. Just as Liverpool were a big club who'd fallen into a long fallow period but had future potential because of Klopp. It didn't stop Salah, Mane, Van Dijk signing for them and likewise we will be able still attract some quality additions also.

It will take time though. Think we have a few seasons of being very ordinary but will be helped by the quality of the league. 20 teams in the league but realistically that's 8 in terms of teams with any real quality. 4th spot would already be a hard task for us however players will still want to come to us. City and Liverpool can't take all the good players and keep them all happy playing time wise. Grealish - £100m signing but how much game time has he really got for City. Certainly not a permanent fixture in that side such as De Bruyne is.

We are in the mire a bit now and some choppy waters ahead. At least we have the right captain in charge now. We will get there. It will just take time. Lots of it.

Fireman. Is this the same Romano who recorded "Man Utd sack Ole" video two weeks before it happened and leaked it online by accident. He went on to talk about about sources in the club told him it was because of results.

I'm not saying the man doesn't have contacts, he obviously does but this is akin to a medium telling vulnerable people what they want to hear.

It's his job. The more clicks the more money.

Angel he is not one but perhaps needs to spend a lot of time in the company of one.
It would be time very well spent imo and a lot better spent than allegedly watching 9 full mathes a week from right across the globe plus all the highlights.

It's the way of the social media world fireman. If you get the clicks you get the money. Do you understand how it works? It's beautiful for folks like him. His name goes viral and folk keep clicking in.
He is making a fortune and its 99% gossip and tittle tattle but the insatiable appetite for gossip among supporters keeps him posting his updates.
One you understand what he is up to you will become attuned to why and how it happens.
Clever guy. Not as clever as the glazers but clever nonetheless.

I am sure there are player who would rather play elsewhere or stay at a certain club but for a variety of reasons cannot.

I am sure that there are thise who give less than full effort and then there are those who will make the best of a bad lot and are professional and give their all in spite of this.

Frenkie has a decision to make on a situation that is less than ideal. I imagine that his previous anger under whom he kicked on is more than happy with the way he will react in the situation.
