I agree with Shappy regarding Elanga. Maybe he will be in the MU and England team for years to come,
or maybe in 2 years he will be playing for Swansea. Who knows but atm he seems your best bet so use him.

I know England have a history of taking things that don't belong to them, but Elanga is Swedish and won't be playing for England.

I honestly don't know what more you can ask from the kid. He's come in, scored some vital goals, played better than his more experienced colleagues. Just let the kid play football without writing him off.

Anyone who has seen Elanga play underage football can see the ability the lad has. He will be a very good player, but not ever kid coming through has to be as good as Mbappe, and that is the issue when judging younger players at times.

It's unreal mumbles, he has done very well since being introduced and some already want to discuss his possible demise. Just let him play.

Mumbles, I'm not writing the kid off. He's come in and done better than anyone expected. Kudos to him and hopefully he can keep exceeding expectations.

All I'm saying is that I haven't seen anything from him so far to suggest he will be a permanent fixture in the starting 11 within the next few years.

Answer me this, if Ronaldo, Sancho and Rashford were playing at their peak would Elanga get a look in?

No he wouldn't, he has been given the chance because better players than him are underperforming.

I think he's good enough to be a valuable squad player, and maybe if he can kick on more than that.

I hope he proves me wrong and nothing would make me happier than being wrong. But personally from what I've seen so far I think in three years time he'll either be a bit part player similar to Lingard (someone who offers something as a squad player, but isn't good enough to hold down a starting spot) or he will be plying his trade somewhere else entirely.

Like I said I hope he proves me wrong.

Shappy, yet again that is a strange comment on Ronaldo, Sancho and Rashford. The reason you have an academy is to be there to help promote. He actually got his chance because in his first training session with Rangnick he was excellent, and he was rewarded. Listen to the comments he has made about the cub.

If those who you mention were all on top form that would be great, and they likely would keep him out of the team, but at the same time football is all about getting a chance and he has taken his. Do we stop keeping some of the younger lads around because the first teamers are better than them at this moment?

Also there would be nothing wrong with him being a squad player, the likes of Butt, Park, O'shea etc etc served us well over the years.

Shappy you're arguments are incredibly weak. No need to go full straw man when trying to make a point. Of course if those 3 play at the highest standard than he wouldn't play but they're not are they? Right this second Elanga deserves to be starting because he is currently better than Rashford.

Your point about him being another Macheda yesterday was way wide of the mark too. He's shown much more than just a goal threat. I could understand the pessimistic approach if he was playing 2 or 3 years and not kicking on. I genuinelly don't know what else the kid can do to please people. I have been thoroughly impressed.

Backed Ole for 3 years even though he showed no promise. Writing off a kid after 15 games because he's not better than peak Ronaldo.?

Apparently there is still a window of opportunity for England to snap Elanga up before Sweden do.
But I know which he should choose given the competition he'll face on the flanks for England.

Spenno that's a funny one.
It depends on how he feels. He has been living in UK since he was 12.
Lots of players switch allegiance.
I reckon he will stick with the swedes but I'm hoping he makes his choice for the right reasons not because he is concerned about the competition.
Rice and grealish both played for ire at underage level but picked England because they felt it gave them better opportunity's but also because they are both English and wanted to play for their country of birth.

I think it's a difficult question to say who he should play for. It comes down to whether he feels Swedish (the country of his birth), English (the country he has grown up in for the key years of his childhood) or even the Cameroon (which is the birth place of his father who represented the Cameroon national team) .

He should play for the side that feels the most like HIS home nation.

As for how good will he be? Who knows really. It's just my opinion that I haven't seen anything from him personally that makes me think he'll be a top class player.

I think a lot of people have taken that the wrong way. People seem to think it's black or white, he makes it or not. I see many different levels of making it.
The top level are your potential Balon d'Or winners, the truly world class.
Next level top class players who will play a key role in the first team of a side that challenges and wins the major honours.
Next level down are those players who could be a key player for a mid-table side or a squad player at a top side.
Then you get to players who will have solid careers but never be good enough to play for a top side.
And so on and such.

What I'm saying is I haven't yet seen something from him that makes me think he will be world class, I haven't seen something from him that makes me think he will be top class, I think he'll be at that third level. Squad role for a top side or key player for a mid-table side.

That said he's only played in 12 games. Plenty of time to kick on and maybe develop into a top class player. I highly doubt he'll ever be world class challenging for Balon d'Or's. But that doesn't mean the kid is written off or should just quit and work at McDonald's.

If you're child gets a B in their GCSE's do you write them off because it isn't an A star? Of course not.

Elanga has done very well, but if he doesn't kick on, if he doesn't score more goals and he leaves in a few years time having made a handful of appearances and scoring no more goals then will he leave with a better record and reputation than Macheda? No he won't.

I think he's a better player than Macheda, but he hasn't walked the walk yet.

Macheda, again, give it a rest shappy, please lol.

{Ed014's Note - Shappy really needs to take some time out and spend some time back in the real world.

He has to be lacking something to spend such a vast majority of his life wasting it on here day in day out and just writing stuff for the sake of it.

It’s genuinely the reason I don’t visit the page as often nowadays. I open the page, scroll through, see his dribble and log back off.
I feel similar about Sky Sports news, when you’ve got the likes of that Kaveh talking nonsense about football. It’s all for a reaction. Shame because it used to be an enjoyable site.

What Shappy says is that unlike, for example, Greenwood, Elanga doesn't seem like a generation talent. A talent that with 90% chance to make it at the top level if he works hard. Although his example with Makeda is false.
I really like Elanga, give us something different and he is much more than a goalscorer (like Makeda) . He is rapid and direct, press and makes the right movements, seems to have the right mentality too. I think Shappy thinks this way too and there is no reason to attack him. For some people like me-maybe Shappy too-this site is our big company. what's wrong with that?
