That’s a shout DSG. Wouldn’t surprise me, wouldn’t be the first unqualified pick.

DDG I think Giggs is in line first, Rooney a year or two after.

{Ed014's Note - surely David Healy deserves a crack, appreciate he only played once for you but 3 Irish Premiership titles and 2 cup wins in 5 years as a manager trumps getting Cardiff relegated. 🤷‍♂️

He’s our top goal scorer of all time so like it or not he’s surely a great at least and possibly even a future legend.

Rooney is a legend.

If he wasnt put in multiple positions he would have smashed the prem goal record.

I think Rooney will be remembered as a club legend.
Top scorer of all time a bag full of all the best club medals. Played through one of the most successful periods in our history. His debut was Roy of the Rovers stuff and he continued to dazzle us all for the next 10 years.
I think he was allowed to stay for 2 or 3 years too long. But in that time he broke the scoring record so although he was was below his best for the last 3 years he did contribute.
For a period he was one of the best talents in the game. On the pitch he was just as determined and matched Ronaldo for drive and desire to win. Off the pitch he did not match Ronald's dedication and professionalism that's why he will never be compared to the 2 greats of his generation. But he does fall into the group just below them because for 10 years he epitomised everything that was great about United on the pitch.
As for him managing United. I would not rule that out. So many hurdles for him to get over before either the club or himself could contemplate that.
I think he has a good chance of being a good manager. He has played under some of the best. He has played under some great coaches and he understands the game well he professes to being a real student of the game and he is a winner. He won't shirk a challenge or decision. So for me he stands a great chance of success. I hope he gets Derby up next season he will bring something back to the epl. He will be box office just like he was when he was at his best.

Giggs will never be United manager, too many off field distractions with him, Rooney is struggling at Derby at the moment so unlikely he will be in anyones thoughts for many a year. How many ex United players have been successful in management Bruce, Sparky, Blanc, Strachan and as someone said earlier Healy.

Not sure why that’s even a question Shappy.

It can be summed up by the feeling around the ground if the team sheet was announced and he wasn’t on it.
I’ll never forget those deafening groans on the odd occasion it happened. He made us perform when he was on the pitch.

He was pure box office and played that way throughout his career.

As others have said, he didn’t look after himself enough but despite that he’s ours and England’s all time leading scorer, and I agree with Ken that he would have beat Shearer’s record if he had more than 1 season leading the line. But he just wanted to get involved all over the pitch.

One of our greatest ever imo.

{Ed077's Note - why do we have the same debate very month. He is the club's all time leading goalscorer so I don't think anyone can say he isn't a legend for Man Utd. Also players older than him are still playing at the highest level whilst he has spent years away from top echelons of football and already retired so there is no point is disputing that he didn't maximise his abilities or at least elongate his career }

You know how it goes on here Ed people like to argue about hypotheticals and what ifs 😂

Be interesting to see how he develops as a manager. I don’t think he’s taken as serious as others which is maybe why some fans question him.

{Ed077's Note - well I never ever would have thought Rooney would go into coaching. And he has been decent at Derby till now which I didn't see coming.}
