As everybody knows i'm not an admirer of ole or his tactics.
However at this point we find ourselves top of the league and imo its churlish not to recognise that.
We have much improved results on this time last year as do lots of other teams. Everton villa spurs have all imoroved as much or more than us season to date.
City Liverpool and perfected have done worse than last year so far.
The tactics are much the same as they were under jose. We set up defencively and in the main try to catch teams on the break.
We are submissive and set up like the underdogs.
Against the lesser teams we have fared quite well. But been found out in all our semi finals and against the best teams this season as these are games you need to go it positively to win.
I personally don't identify with this team or manager. More often than not i find no entertainment in watching.
However if we keep getting results and compete to win trophies i'm happy enough to overtook the crap style and little or no entertainment from watching. Just like i did under jose
I take solace from being top just now.

Ken, I think we are pretty much in agreement on all of this but for me results and league positions are not enough; it's not why I invest my time (and money) to watch football and support Utd.

I demand to be entertained!

I expect a manager to have more nous than just frustrating the opposition. As you point out, whenever we come up against someone decent it's not really enough. Moreover, it's insulting to us as supporters.

The only 'plan' Utd have for scoring goals is to break quickly and play off the cuff. It's like watching a beach soccer team; totally amateurish.

I mean what's the point of football if the joy and excitement is sucked out?

Solkjaer is a cowardly and unimaginative manager and there is no place for that at Man Utd.

Ken - I thinks that’s a really fair and sensible post from an Ole sceptic.

MancMan, I take it you didn't celebrate when we beat Ajax in the Europa League when they had 17 shots to our 7, they had 70% possession to our 30%, they had 634 passes to our 285?

Ports we took the win gladly but Ajax played nicer football. Is too much to ask that we win with style.

Ports, I'm sorry but winning is not enough. I want to be entertained. We deserve to be entertained.

Mancman,

I’m sure fans of most clubs demand to be entertained but they also want results, it comes across as pretty spoiled to demand that, you support the club whatever they are doing, celebrate winning otherwise you’ll never be happy.

I think we haven't won regularly, and even competed for 7 or so years, to expect the team to win, entertain, dominate is actually a lot to expect.

Let's look at Haaland as an example, does he want to be another Kane? Great career but no trophies? If United start winning trophies, however that is achieved, he will rather come to us then let's use Leeds as an example who seem, bizarly to be everyone's favourite 2nd team at the moment.

Win trophies, attract better players, play better football.

Unless we get an Alex Ferguson again (won't happen) or a lot of money to spend like City, then what you want instantly is unrealistic in my opinion. And before you point at Liverpool, they've spent Money and Klopp had time.

Ken, I think a few of us feel like that, waiting (hoping) for it to get better but somewhat surprised, delighted, amazed we are top. It’s certainly been an interesting season so far with a few highs, as many lows, and everything in between.

It is amazing though that some are still vociferously slagging him off when we are top, a lot more points better off than we were last year, despite a very slow start.

I'm sorry Ports but I disagree. Do you think players like playing negative, boring football? Also, when was the last time anyone won anything decent playing that way?

There is no need for Solksjaer to be so negative with his teams, especially in the big games. This Utd squad has more quality than that and can be more entertaining.

GDS, all I'm asking for is a bit more adventure and flair, maybe keep possession more and try to break teams down, which is all totally in keeping with the traditions of the club. I don't think it's spoilt to expect that from a man Utd team.

The reason we don't see that is Solksjaer doesn't know how to get the best out of this squad, otherwise they would be playing better football both going forward and in defence. Good managers make their teams more than the sum of it's parts and that's not happening here.

There are excellent players wasting away on the bench while other players are knackered and out of form. There is no discernible style to Utd's play and the team is a one trick pony. I could go on but the ultimate result is that it's not pleasing on the eye and rarely gets you out of your seat.

I'm not asking for the moon on a stick, just for the manager to coach his players better, have more tactical nous and more courage to believe in his players.

Granted, watching this team is better than Mourinho's or LVG's but they set the bar so low it was buried six feet under. AJH talked about progress so i suppose this is progress of sorts.

At least it's worth bothering to tune in to watch the current squad whereas with Mourinho I gave up going to OT and didn't even watch them on the tv it was so dire.

And to be fair there has been the decent odd game, for example Burnley last week was a proper good Premier League match.

AJH talks about being open to changing our mind and I really hope I can but that would mean Solksjaer changing and I really don't see that happening.

No point in being criticle when the results are good ajh it seems a little context productive.
I don't like the style but winning is the name of the game.
If it goes pear shaped and the results and the style are crap then it will be a different story.
But for now i can at least enjoy the results. i'm hoping it gets better to watch. Lots of teams have improved this season and the runaway teams have not done as well thankfully let's hope we can stay in the mix till the end and come out on top.

And that's where we differ in outlook Ken. It's not just about winning for me. No offense but that's just shallow.

Everytime I watch a football match I invest two hours of my life. When those involved in the game (such as on Sunday) deliberately make it a rubbish watch I take it very personally. Two hours of my life is very precious, how dare they waste it?
