Has there been a more bizarre transfer window for Utd?!

So far:

DONNY - Tidy player but not desperately needed and looks to be a squad player due to Pogba being inexplicably first choice.

CAVANI - Old, injury prone, not played for 7 mths, expensive. The definition of a panic signing.

TELLES - Excellent signing and the only one that makes real sense. Top player in his prime and a huge upgrade on the dross we have at LB.

TRAORE - Young, inexperienced, expensive. Looks talented but Ole isn't capable of improving him. Ole doesn't possess that skillset. Won't join until next year either so doesn't help us now. Potentially exciting but risky.

PELLESTRI - Young, inexperienced, largely unknown. Youth team player not one for the 1st team. Won't help our season.

So 5 signings and only one makes any real sense (Telles) . With everyone fit only he walks into the 1st team as well. The rest will be subs or back in the academy.

Hectic, muddled, strange, unprepared, embarrassing - all words that sum up this window so far.

Keano

If they are not signing the players Ole asked for, it does not bode well for him at all. It’s when, not if, he goes, if they ignore his requests you wonder if yesterday torpedoed any confidence in large moves, they may want to save their money for the next coach. We shall see!

The numbers of those you describe probably indicate not too big a net spend and dividends can still be paid.

The reported €30m (+add ons) fee is too high for a young player with only 25mins of first team experience. Atalanta were ready to loan him out to Parma and then we go out and offer an extortionate amount on him.

Let's hope he turns out to be really good. HE will have a lot of pressure oh him after the fee we are reportedly paying for him.

What sence do you want Traore and Pellistri to make Keano? They are for the future, they are unrelated with other transfers as is Stefanovic if he comes etc.

Have to hand it to the geniuses at the club, won't cough up full amount for a 20 year old with 20 goals and 20 assists last season but sure let's spend 30mn on a 18 year old who has played 25 mins of professional football.

Deependra didn’t they do the same with that guy who went to juve? Kulveski (spelling) or had he played for Atalanta before. I know nothing of this kid, but apparently we tried hard to get him when he was 16 but had passport issues and we couldn’t get the WP.

Not sure why you mentioned Traore and Pellestri. They should be included with the other kiddies we have signed this summer. They are not ready for the first team, we are buying youngsters from Europe as this is our last opportunity to do so.

So we offer 90m for Sancho which gets rejected, and we seem unwilling to spend the extra 18m Dortmund are asking for.

However, we then seem to spend 30m in signing on fees for Cavani, 30m on a kid from Atalanta who hasn't even played a full season for them and 10m on a kid from Uruguay. Best part of 70m spent, on a couple of kids and cover for CF. But so far can't find 18m extra for Sancho.

Yes Kulusevski did only make 3 or o appearances for Atalanta before going on loan to Parma.
Whilst on loan at Parma he excelled really well which prompted Juve to sign him for around 30_35m.

So with Amad Traore we are skipping the "loaned to Parma where he preformed really well" and just buying him for the same fee

BTW Kulusevski looks to be one hell of a player and still just 20yrs old. I hope Amad Traore can develop just as well.

Mind you his brother Hamed Traore is too shabby either.

Csm,

I’m sure you can see the difference between signing Sancho which Ed has constantly told us would be about €200m with all fees included and signing someone for €30m? I think we all agree Sancho isn’t worth that, the problem is that the club didn’t walk away weeks ago and go for someone else rather than carrying on with something they weren’t going to do. You can’t have a go about buying other players just because they aren’t the one you wanted imo.

Gds except he is worth that, the fact that we can't negotiate down his agent fees etc just shows we aren't good at it. The agent was also reported to have lowered his demands.

Look at comparative spending for similar players

Mbappe- 165mn
Dembele- 147mn
Felix - 126mn

So sancho for 120mn is par even if you include C.V. issues.

My problem with traore transfer is it makes little sense, unless Greenwood develops into the next mbappe this season, we are going to be the market for a rw next season, we have signed a kid from Uruguay, already have chong who so far has started well in Germany, then there's the partisan kid we are also signing.

So what exactly is the point of signing an unknown 18 year old for that fee, we couldn't have used it to sign players in position we actually need strengthened now, a cb, a dm, first choice rw.

Shappy,

If we don’t get Sancho that is €200m euros saved to do business elsewhere, surely you can see that, it’s nothing to do with the extra €18m. I’m not saying it’s the right thing but feigning shock and a lack of understanding helps nobody.

Shappy the problem isn't that we don't have the money to pay Sanchos asking price. Its not like if we didn't buy Traore we would pay the difference for Sancho. We simply don't want to there and don't want to pay the 120 Dortmund wants.
I think other transfers are unrelated. Its like one budjet for Sancho and one budjet for others.

Now Amad Traore or Pellistri might hit the ground running and become future stars sooner rather than later. Yet the reality is that very few 18 year olds move half way around the world or across Europe and make an instant impact.

We have players who could be making an impact in a year or two, Chong and Elanga, while we have Greenwood and James in the first team.

The money used to sign Traore and Pellistri could have been spent on Ismalia Sarr. A player 4 years older, proven in the EPL and ready for a step up.

It seems that they have signed the kids as a gesture, while what they have been doing is chasing Sarr or Dembele on loan for a year, so they can have another crack at Sancho next summer. While the kiddies signed are being offered up as "first team" signings to placate fans.

The flaw in this logic is that next year Sancho will likely cost at least as much as he would this year if not more. That there will be more teams in for him next year. While there is no guarantee that we will qualify for the UCL this season, a prerequisite for Sancho to join. Add to that the fact that Jadon might well feel that we messed him around this year, agreeing a deal with him and his agent, chasing him the whole summer only to not follow through over less than 20m. I can't imagine he will feel enthused to join us next year.

If Sancho isn't a United player by 11pm tonight then I doubt he will ever be a United player. Next summer Mbappe will likely be on the move, with Real Madrid and Liverpool considered options, PSG will obviously be looking for a replacement. While Barcelona will likely see Messi leave and will be looking for a replacement.

So at least three of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG will be looking for a big name signing next summer in Jadon Sancho's position.

While Bayern aren't likely to get involved with Gnarby and Sane, I wouldn't rule them out completely. City and Chelsea are other sides who might throw their hat into the ring if Sancho has another great season. While City have Sterling who'll be in his prime, Mahrez will be hitting his 30's, and depending on how Ferran Torres does they could look to bring Sancho back, especially if they don't win the title again.

Shappy,

We could still sign Sarr, who knows? I for one can’t wait until this nonsense is over and we can concentrate on football and improving the good players we have, the transfer window does my head in every year.
