It is clear to me from posts that noone really appears to have faith in the Board of Directors at MUFC. Perhaps this is a reflection about who is on it. The Glazers are clearly motivated by profit. Sir Alex has the football club at heart as does Bobby Charlton but he must be getting to the stage of retiring.
This season will determine the direction for the future - up or down.
We are clearly lagging behind the other teams in terms of strategy, vision and investment. It worries me.

Maybe it’s Charlton and Ferguson who are out of touch but I can’t see how either are involved in the day to day running for strategy for the club?

Fergie and Charlton only sit on the board of directors, they may have a voice, but I doubt its that loud. The key men under Woodward are Matt Judge and John Murtough. Then the long list of scouts. It seems that Judge looks at the players and their contracts. Woodward is a vice chairman and has probably got more to do with running the club as a whole, it's more than the first team.

Van Gaal gave an interview recently, says all his targets were not met by the board, who claimed the players were not available. The likes of Mahrez, Kante and Mané before they moved to the big clubs. He did lay some blame at the feet of Woodward who he says does not grasp football. But it just seems odd, some big names in his list for sure, but some must have been possible.

I don't believe either SAF or Charlton are on the Board.

That's what happens when people have no football background. Google it, we have someone called Chris Chiang, he came from KPMG and Alan Dawson, he spent 17 years in the Air Force before he joined us. These are the amateurs that are dealing with everything. Apart from Murtough, none seem to have a footballing background.

Judge went to the same University as Woodward at Bristol and has a money background. Judge does most of the transfer stuff, Woodward then agrees it. There are men at United who make the decisions and everyone blames Woodward. He can't help he has no football background, he relys on those below him.

Live in hope lads.
Grealish looks likely love him, undecided or loath him he is versatile and is 1st team quality in our squad.
Who knows what else will happen before the window closes.
But whatever happens i agree that someone with more football knowledge and experience is required to lead that side of the business.

Lvg had one of the biggest spends in Europe, and is now complaining about the players he also wanted. Falcao and Di Maria spring to mind.

{Ed0666's Note - he requested players he didn’t get them and then got lumped with expensive personell he didn’t want. He has reason to gripe.

Van Gaal can’t gripe about anything. Paid a kings ransom to serve up the most turgid boring football ever. Blame everybody else, only in football. Met him once at Carrington horrible arrogant ignorant man. No more needs saying about him. Goodbye and good riddance to him.

I think the problem seems to be (and to a degree Moye/ lvg and Mourinho have said it) that they were not backed with the players that they wanted. Yes the club have brought but if they are not for the style of the manager then it becomes harder for them to be successful.
It works if the succession of managers are in the sane vain and the club phylosophy is aligned but you can see from those 3 names it was not over that period. Hopefully this is one of the things we now have going for us.

Blackpool Red,

Yiu need to look beyond his style of play. Ed002 said he was brought in to sort the club out for when Allegri was lined up to take over. Maybe that was whh he didn't get the okayers he wanted?

Remember that the toxic fans forced the club to axe him. He got Martial and Rashford playing good football. It wasn't his fault the club signed players he didn't want.

I agree that his football was boring but he didn't rate his defence.

Van Gaal like Ed said didn't want most of the players he was lumbered with. Herrera and Shaw were club signings. Blind was his own of course as was Depay. But Di Maria wasn't same with Falcao.

Call Van Gaal all the names under the sun, but to call him them when we knew exactly what we were getting is idiotic. He was the same at every club he went to.

Weak board and owners if the fans got a manager sacked. Shows them for what they really are Very inept. The board could of sacked Fergie in the early years but stood by their judgement.

Van Gaal said he didn't get his first or second choice players.
Instead 4th or 5th choice.
If we target such calibre of players, we are found to finish 4th or 5th in the table.

Seriously, a manager wanting Hummels or Ramos and ending up with Rojo is a joke.

LvG is on recorded saying he wanted di Maria and Falcao, maybe hd was lying 🤔
A lot of managers get no say on transfers.

ED0666,

I think what happe Ed was there was no commercial benefit of signing the players LVG wanted lol.

Recruitment has been very poor apart from Fernando's and possibly AWB.
