Premier league players have launched the #PlayersTogether initiative to generate funds for front line NHS charities. Footballers have been getting a lot of stick, unfairly, so this is fantastic from them. Now if only certain business owners in the UK, politicians, head bankers would do the same. Maybe the media focus should now shift to them.

Well done again, Doing us proud lads 👏👏👏.

I some times do feel a little sympathy for footballers. Although they get paid a fantastic amount of money, in general they are not well educated and their careers are short. While often the big 400k per week type numbers are bounded about, the reality is very few are earning at that level, and the ones that do tend to only for 3-4 years of their 15-18 year career.

While other people who earn more over a much longer period of time do so without scrutiny.

On the whole they are good bunch whose hearts are in the right place. People like Mata and Rashford doing plenty for charity without fanfare. While many from other clubs do the same.

Somehow the only industry anywhere world wide that have taken it upon themselves to take wage cuts and donate their earnings to help fight this illness are the only ones getting any flak for it.

While a prominent British businessman who has more wealth than all of the EPL footballers COMBINED, a man who has sued the NHS has asked the UK tax payer to foot the bill and bail out one of his businesses when he could easily do so himself has hardly had a bad word printed about him.

400k a week = 1.6m a month = 19.2m a year

Even after tax that’s 10m in one year for a top footballer on wages alone not counting sponsorship endorsements etc. More than enough money to live comfortably on for the rest of your life. Yet here we are again praising greedy little men because they give away a small amount of their completely unneeded fortunes while over half the planet lives in poverty.

Danny, don't worry. I'm a lefty and I agree the amounts of money footballers earn is insane and completely unnecessary.

I just feel that they are an easy target and many others who earn just as much or more than footballers rarely get any stick.

Footballers have done something, which is better than nothing.

My point exactly. there's plenty of others out there earning similar amounts or more and they haven't decided to help out. Instead they continue to live tax free and made the government pay their staffs wages. Nobody is saying footballers are saints for doing this, but at least they are showing a conscience unlike some others.

I've no issues with working class lads making the most of their talent, and earning the going rate. Actors, or F1 drivers for example, never seem to attract the same opprobrium.
