Let's have a poll. Which position do you see as being most important for United to reinforce in the summer?

Centre Back
Defensive Midfield
Attacking Midfield
Right Wing
Striker.

All of them.

2.) 06 Feb 2020

Midfield rw striker midfield cb in that order.

3.) 06 Feb 2020
06 Feb 2020 16:48:22
Absolutely necessary to bring in top quality players in the following positions

Striker - Martial is a liability
Mid - replacement for Pogba
RW - haven’t had one in about a decade

We need more competition in cb, cm and am though.

4.) 06 Feb 2020
06 Feb 2020 17:00:03
1 right wing
(Sancho ideally but unlikely)
2 holding midfielder
(in the style of a Carrick hopefully neves)
3 b2b mid to replace pogba (hopefully sms)
4 a physical striker
(Jimenez in an ideal world)
5 pacey cb
(Dont know who but they need to be rapid as neither Maguire or lindeloff have pace, both would look miles better not playing next to the other)

5.) 06 Feb 2020
06 Feb 2020 17:02:49
RW - Someone who can run the channels, play the half spaces and play lots of vertical passes. But they mustn't ever get to the bye line or cross the ball, because crosses are pointless. Aren't they Shappy? :)

6.) 06 Feb 2020
06 Feb 2020 17:36:27
If pogba leaves
1 midfielder
2 rw
3 striker.

7.) 06 Feb 2020
06 Feb 2020 19:58:22
Pogba will not leave.

8.) 06 Feb 2020

DOF. let's start from the top and get rid of the current senior management and bring in a new DOF and club management team that have a clear vision for the club for the next 5,10 years.

The DOF can then d3cide on a new team manager, he can choose is coaching staff and they as a group can decide on what players they need. The DOF and his team can then set about trying to sign those players.

9.) 06 Feb 2020
06 Feb 2020 22:21:13
A true CDM followed by a RW then a striker. If pogba goes we will need a replacement for him straight away so saul or milenkevic-savic. Would also like another CM in Soumare to NUFC for 30-35 mil was agreed so if we can get a similar price for him then it's a bonus.

10.) 07 Feb 2020
07 Feb 2020 04:47:39
1) DoF
2) RW (Idealy Sancho)
3) CM (Ideally Saul or SMS as a box to box midfielder)
4) Striker (Ideally Lautaro or Werner or Haaland)

11.) 07 Feb 2020

I think your on your own in feeling we don't need a rw as priority shappy.

I think your right ken. I find that weird to be honest.

How many points have we dropped this season due to not having someone score or assist a few more goals from the right hand side?

Our lack of goals this season can be mostly attributed to not enough creativity from midfield and players wasting chances. Neither of which would be changed hugely by bringing in a right sided forward.

We have two young and improving players in James (21) and Greenwood (18) who between them have scored or assisted 16 goals from the right hand side. Whereas, only three goals have come from central positions.

Most of the dropped points have come from us being unable to break teams down and conceding silly goals. That has come from a defence that seems disorganised and a midfield that doesn't track midfield runners, and is unable to control the tempo of a game or create chances by moving the ball forward quickly enough.

Great sides have a strong spine. Ours is DDG, Maguire, Lindelof, McTominay, Fred, Bruno and Martial.

Question marks remain over the quality of Lindelof, Fred and Martial. While Matic and Pogba will leave in the summer, meaning Andreas Pereira is our first choice back up. With Jones and Tuanzebe at CB and we don't actually have anyone as back up for Martial who is ready or best suited to that central striker role.

Winning sides are built from the back, while controlling midfield.

Yes a right sided forward is needed, but for me we need to address the spine of the team first.

A nicely reasoned response Shappy, well though out and detailed.

Ken and the anti Shappy brigade, perhaps you should do the same rather than posting the petty and snide replies with little to no content other than airing your own personal grievances.

Shappy, you do a solid job of taking the moral high ground amongst these poster who, judging by their posting history, are old enough to know better!

I enjoy your essays, I disagree often, but I enjoy.

Cheers Champ20ns, I get everyone has a different opinion and this place would be boring if we all agreed all the time.

I just want a good old debate, disagree with me by all means, but back that up with a reason why.

Me and Red Man often find ourselves opposed in recent times, but i wouldn't want Red Man to change. He has his view and he sticks to it.

Everyone on here is a hypocrite at times and we all have our blind spots. I admit I have a fondness for Ole which means I give him more leeway than others. While Red Man could never see anything Jose did as a mistake. Jose and Ole are two people me and Red Man will never agree on as we have polar opposite opinions of them.

There's nothing wrong with that, and we both give as good as we get. Back a year or so ago Ken and Jred couldn't keep their hands off each other. It's all part of what makes this site so interesting.

Hopefully, next time you disagree with one of my posts you'll let me know why and we can have a debate about why you're wrong:)

I maybe put a little more importance on the right hand sided attacker than you shappy, I'd personally prefer a new player for there than I would buying an 8th cb .

The team so far ahead of us its unreal, have a player now regularly competing for the ballon dor and player of the year playing in the very position .

Some of the options youd rather plan on us moving forward with in that position are dalot a rb with one goal against tranmere rovers since joining us, james who hasn't scored since last August and after a bright start has struggled recently and Mason greenwood who I'm not sure will end up playing there .

Goals from central are as you say disappointing but have we not just bought a player to help with that, most people answered your question and haven't disputed the need for a striker and a midfielder but don't need stats to work out other sides have better players rw than us they can see it with their eyes .

Slate certainly we need a right sided forward. I just don't feel that one would make as big an impact as say a couple of top midfielders or a centre back that will bring our back four together.

Clearly we need to move a few CB's on, and that would be top priority for the out goings this summer for me. Smalling is the best of the bunch that should be heading out the door. While no one will lose any sleep over Rojo or Jones leaving. Bailly doesn't look like he can stay fit so for that reason he needs to go. So that's four who need to leave. All of which have had injury issues in the past.

In an ideal world I'd love us to sign a CB, 2 CM's a RW and a ST. Ideally something like Varane, Zakaria, SMS, David Neres and Raul Jimenez. But let's be real that is over 300m worth of players. Which just isn't happening. Out of those players if we had to not sign one it I feel the team could survive better without a RW than a midfielder, centre back or striker.

I think a lot of people keep looking towards Jadon Sancho and think we might be able to get him. Fact is unless we get UCL football next season we won't. I expect he'll end up at Chelsea.

I agree that long term I see Mason Greenwood being a centre forward. Yet like many before him such as Messi, Rooney, Henry and RvP I think he might learn his trade in a wider position then move in field in his early to mid twenties.

So I don't see an issue with having him play there next season with players such as James, and Dalot offering a different option.

Personally I would rather blood a potential top class prospect in Greenwood next season than have 20 games where we will have to rely on Jones or Andreas Pereira.

For me, i have to agree with Ken. Our defence right now should be the least concerning. Its not the best but there's options and potential.

Midfield is worrying even when all fit. Matics legs have gone and likely to leave, along with pogba. Pereira and lingard don't cut it for me. So that leaves us with mctominay, Fred, bruno as first choices. We need reinforcements here. I strangely have faith well recruit at least two mids in the summer.

But for me a right winger is a must. Greenwood is a St, James is better on the left and a little raw. Needs rest definitely.

Jimenez is a no brainer for me also.

07 Feb 2020 18:20:51
Bang on RW. Shaps i get your thinking its flawed imo. The centre of our defence would be a lot less exposed with a better midfield more organised and capable of keeping the ball and being technically better.
Look at city they are 2nd and have no cb to speak of and no lb most of the time. Willams and possibly awb for sure maguire and lindelof would make them a much better team no doubt about it.
But they have a much beer midfield and attack than us eh not to mention a much better coach.

Champ20ns.

I know shappy well and there is no anti shappy brigade. Snide remarks my ass 😂😂😂

Is this your 1st post or are you an old poster posting under a different name?

Keep posting though because your great craic.

Nobody disrespects Shappy plenty disagree but there is no disrespect.

If he doesn't like any banter i have with him he will call me and tell me.

Me and ken can probably go a little further with the banter as we have met on a couple of occasions during the charity matches.

I can say that although ken knows practically nothing about football, and that he is a cold hard cheater and diver he is also a thoroughly lovely chap.

As Ken said if either he or I overstepped the line we would probably just call eachother to say that was out of line.

Fortunately both of us have the thick skins of a rhino although only Ken's is wrinkled and leathery😂.
