Forgive me but maybe the red wine has caused confusion

Solskjaer was the manager of Haaland at Molde? Yes. Then why do we need to send a scout to watch him? Genuine question.

Valid point Red man. Maybe it's part of the recruitment process, where a report etc has to be written.

Perhaps to monitor his progress etc and see if he has what it takes, as he is playing in the Austrian league.

Maybe because the club are moving away from one man making all the transfer decisions.

I would imagine the club would be looking to compete some form of due diligence with a scouting procedure that is a little more than just asking a current employee if he thinks he's good enough.

OGS has never made a transfer decision that's why red man.

Apparently it is all down to recruitment process. Scouts etc have veto’s on players too. This is from listening to a few guys on the athletic talking so it could we be wrong. So that would make sense if he was being heavily scouted now.

What about the latest rumour that Mourinho vetoed Maguire for 60m as he didn't feel he was worth anymore than 50m.
Well the club ultimately paid 80m for him, so did Mourinho cost the club an extra 20m and a year without Harry Maguire?
What do people make of it?

No harm doing some due diligence on the player while the window is closed. It doesn't matter though. You could have Batistuta up top and he'd struggle to get goals. Without a proper number 10 we're going to continue to struggle.

I agree with Mourinho and Maguire isn't a 80 mill player although he is better then Smalling and Jones but not the best of defender imo.

I think it a matter of improving our team and Maguire has done that but i still don't see an wow moment from him.

I agree with Mumbles. Batistuta would struggle to scorengoals in this team.

Mind you, he is 50 now 😂.

Why would a manager get involved in club finances
And veto transfer due to price?

Betty, I won't have the great Batigol's name sullied. We'd have another 10 champions league wins under our belt if we signed him in the 90s.

Shappy

If United could have bought Maguire for £20m less a year earlier, then someone lost the club £20m. How convenient when this loss is highlighted, that “rumours” blame the former manager. No one still at United is therefore at fault, Phew.

Mourinho made many noises about getting a defender, why would he care what the cost was.

If we went ahead and bought this lad, solely on the manager's say-so, you'd be the first on here complaining about the shocking state of our scouting network, lack of due-diligence, buying players on the opinion of a mediocre manager, etc etc etc.

Maybe it's because the lad played under ole a while back .
Is now playing in a different league with different players.
Or that things can change quickly for example the lad is currently in the form of his life .
Or maybe if you where about to spend a reported £80 mill on a player you would look in to it a bit . And not just blow that amount of cash, on " yer decent lad played 20 odd games for me last year "?

I don't think Haland had made his debut for the Senior National team while Ole was at Molde. Scouting him at the national senior level would be something new.

With regard to mou and wanting defenders, You simply don't splash cash on 2 defenders and a year later you say u need to to sign another apparently because the 2 are not cutting it. What is the probability that the 3rd option would make a difference?

Red Man, I actually agree. I don't think Mourinho would care how much a player costing he thought he would improve his chances of winning something.

Just really highlighting that things in the media need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Maybe we are scouting Haaland, maybe we aren't.

However, if the club want to buy him then I would expect him to be fully scouted, and all due diligence done seeing as our success rate with signings over the past 6 years has been suspect at best.

Did the club sign Matic and Lukaku based solely on José's input? Maybe that's why they now scout the managers choice of player based on their views of having managed them before.
