Slightly different note, but is anyone else desperate to see 442 come back into fashion. Two box to box midfielders, wingers and two strikers. One of the reasons I think there are less world class players now a days is that everyone is shoehorned into a role ie holding midfielders who just rotate the ball and number 10s who hardly shoot.

I know the games moved on to different systems etc but I loved watching sides playing 442.

I’ve been on about this for years. Teams these days are more worried about the opposition than expressing themselves. Busby and Fergie didn’t worry about the opposition. The only problem we have is buying 2 midfielders,2 wingers and 2 strikers.

I've just won the league/ Europa Cup double on FM, playing 442. Pretty much the same team we have now. It can be done!

Fergie's insistence on 442 was grand most of the time where the PL was concerned, but often left us struggling against top teams in Europe.

It would be great. If we had two wingers, two strikers and two box to box mids.
