So now that we've settled after transfer window, i would like to know what exactly went wrong with the signing of a Central Midfielder especially Bruno Fernandes.
1. Were we never interested in the player?
2. We had other targets?
3. Asking price was a bit too much?
4. Player wages or player was not interested in a move.

Also would like to know everyone's thoughts on McGinn, read somewehere that Sir Alex liked him a lot and would have been happy if he move to Old Trafford.

Didnt offer the amount Sporting was asking for.

I thought this was covered, we thought we could bully a side we perceived as being a small club (wrongly) into accepting a lower bid than they were happy to accept.

Sporting proved themselves to be bigger than our club thought and no deal was reached. Good on them, shame on us. We should be more respectful.

I tend to believe (may be wrong), Ole wants certain types of players who want to be at the club rather than the club wanting them.

We wanted maguire so we played the required amount same for bissaka.

Would it have anything to do that we didn't want to pay 70m for a player with a release clause of 35m.

Fernandes, McGin and Maddison are exactly the players we should be targetting. It was disappointing not to buy one or two of these.
Our midfield is lacking and as Scholes rightly points out, we will get found out. I hope we bring at least one in January.

AAA,
I think if we are in there competing perhaps the club will try to bring someone in.
The whole uncertainty surrounding pogba and lukaku left us getting caught between 2 stools so to speak. But we have who we have and i like the current atmosphere and the sound bites coming from within the club.
We might get lucky and suffer no pogba or mactom injuries and that they hold their form. Fred and matic are ok cover but if we have to play one or both regularly we will suffer. Lingard mata and periera look set to fight out the more advanced role in midfield.
I don't think we are short on numbers its a matter of finding the best combination on any given day.
I think we could have got another 1 in but it never happened for whatever reason. I like what was done.
James is going to be a thorn in a lot of sides and if we win a few on the bounce momentum can be a wonderful thing. Ole has been written off by most. Pogba has been written off by most. Personally i have written off martial and shaw.
Im still not totally sold on either of them but now as 1st picks they are getting their chance under a different style of coach. I hope shaw continues to improve and if martial continues to work hard off the ball like he did last week ill be delighted and then i'm happy to ignore the missed passes or the odd run up a cul de sac. Its when those things happen on top of not trying it frustrates me.

Ryan giggs said he used to chase the ball as hard as he could, even though he knew couldn't catch it before it went out of play, just to prove to the crowd that he was always trying, even when it was a lost cause. that's what ole needs to get all our players doing. Pogba and martial both did that last week they never did it last season particularly in our last 10 games.
Its baby steps at the moment but imo we are on the right path.
If all goes well and momentum and a bit of luck stays on our side baby steps become big strides and then leaps.
Momentum is everything a good start will inspire the squad and players like awb james and maguire become heros quickly, pogba will be forgiven, but confidence is fragile at this stage in oles stint so the longer we keep it the better. Lots of the press can't wait to jump on ole if it goes wrong. But just you watch him become the darling of the press if it goes right.

I just think players have some bridges to build. Pogba and martial being 2 in particular. They did not try their best last year that's not up for question imo. But last season is gone and we start again with a clean slate. If they do the business this year then last year is forgotten in my book.
The same goes for any player who excels in a season. They start the new one from scratch and have to prove themselves all over again weekly.
