Wouldn’t mind Toney me, think he would suit us well as another forward

Ideal signing would be the winger from Napoli, can’t spell his name but think he’s quality and would suit the prem

But glad the club have stuck with a manager, sancho thought he could outlast another manager like most players because the culture has been shocking

Hopefully now we kick on Sunday.

Can't help but feel that Liverpool signing Chiesa for 10 plus 2.5 million in add ons is going to be the deal of the summer.

Now maybe I have missed something that's happened to him, but I always thought he looked very good.

Bolger if right about KK though, would be a dream signing for the wide forwards.

He looked really poor at euros and even last season watching some of the juve games against better opposition. Maybe liverpool brings out the best of him. pl is not going to be easier league but who knows. very cheap deal comparative to deals being done, wonder what it was that other teams don't like.

In the current climate, Chiesa seems like a steal and would likely have been a solid signing for us with Sancho leaving.

In terms of replacements, I’m not really sure who I’d go for this late in the window. Under the previous administration we’d have probably moved for somebody like Kingsley Coman on loan, but he doesn’t really match what INEOS are looking to build.

Can’t see another winger being signed. We didn’t have sancho last season so no different to this season if he goes.

We will have 4 wingers in the squad for 2 spots. Granted, they aren’t all great. But I doubt they’ll add another one to the squad.

Great buy by Liverpool. He is a really good player. He will take the load of salah and Diaz as he play either side. He will make a very good contribution there i think.

Hopefully his injuries are behind him. He won't play every week I think but what a good player to have to call on. We had no interest I don't think and I've read that he would only consider a cl club.

I think it will be a hectic last 2 days with players moving all over. A few mad ones and possible loans for good players.

Will we get another 1 or 2 in remains to be seen I've high hopes but low expectations. Hope to see a couple more leave anyhow.

Oak,

Chiesa did his cruciate 3 years ago and hasn’t been the same player since missing a large number of games. If Liverpool can get him back to his previous level he will be a decent signing but I wouldn’t be too worried, can’t see him playing much.

romano says no obligation to buy agreed. says juve have improved loan terms with an option to buy. it will be a very busy helter skelter crazy last few days for many teams.

Chiesa is going on a free next year and the latest victim of big clubs happy to move players on if they are on monster wages and not in the manager’s plans. Juve’s latest manager prefers other options.

What’s more bizarre is that they want to replace him with the Utd version :D.

I knew about his ACL rear but they often take a couple of years to get back from close to wear you were.

And 13 million doesn't buy much in the EPL nowadays. So I think its a good huy given their other options means he can be used sparingly become an impact player off the bench.

As for United I don't think we buy another forward this year. I think we wait and love next year when we can sink more money into getting the right player. I also think we might see Lacey start to get bench time at least. He will be 18 in April and will start to push the incumbents here, so far I haven't really seem anything too special in front of him.

Chiesa has struggled to get back to his pre-injury form.

If he can return to that form then Liverpool have a great player.

While given the low fee even if he flops badly and spends the majority of his time at Liverpool out injured it won't be a big loss.

Can’t see us bringing in a winger to replace him.

Garnacho, Amad, Rashford and Antony will be our four first-team wingers.

Mount and Bruno can play there, whilst we could always move to a diamond in midfield with split strikers if necessary. That’s before looking at the like of Lacey, Ibragimov etc.

Selfishly, I’d like Toney and Chilwell on top of Ugarte over the next 37 hours. But I think it’s unlikely. Incomings probably all done.

Downsie, I agree I can't see us signing a winger this summer to replace Sancho.

To be honest he has hardly played for us over the last couple of years. He spent most of last season either training with the youth team or out on loan, the year before he played a few games, had some mental health struggles and EtH allowed him to go off for three months of the season.

Has he even made more than 10 league starts for us over the last two seasons?

Like you say, we have four first team wingers, along with two players in Bruno and Mount who can play wide. I'd also point out that both Zirkzee and Højlund have played on the wing at times in their careers as well (although seeing as they are the only two options through the middle I doubt they'll play wide unless needed) .

Effectively we have 6 to 8 players for a those front three positions.

People can point out the lack of quality or form from some of those players, but we will have to make do this season and try and get them back into form.

Personally I'd say if we can do one more deal after Ugarte then it should be for a midfielder.

I get the LB argument, yet the issue is potentially a short term issue due to injuries. While it is apparently thought that Harry Amass might be ready for some first team appearances by December/ January. With Dalot, Martinez and Mazraoui all able to cover there as well.

LB will probably have to wait until next summer when we can move on one or even both of Shaw and Malacia to make space for a first team quality LB.

Midfield though looks very thin even with Ugarte signing.

Casemiro looks to be in better form than last season, but has looked like he is starting to run out of steam after 70 minutes or so. Certainly his performances dip a little in the last 15-20 minutes of the first few games.

Eriksen can only last 60 minutes, and is likely to leave.

Mainoo is brilliant, but is just 19 years old and cannot be relied upon to play every game. There will be times during the season where he'll need taking out of the line up either to rest his developing body or to take him out of the limelight if his form dips.

Collyer is the only other option beyond those three currently in the squad. He's a young lad who made his debut this season. He's looked solid in his appearances, but we shouldn't be relying on him like we might have to if we suffer a couple of injuries.

That will leave Ugarte when his deal is made official. He will be the only first team midfielder who isn't either a youth player learning their trade or a veteran in decline. He will have to carry this midfield at times, which isn't ideal for a new signing adapting to what is known to be a tough league.

Without another signing we will at best have Ugarte, Casemiro, Mainoo, Collyer and Eriksen as options.

Although it's likely you can scratch Eriksen off that list.

If we can make another signing this summer it has to be in midfield. While I understand some people's reservations over Rabiot, he would without doubt be a brilliant and vital signing if we can agree a deal with him.

Experienced, proven at the highest level, good age still, tactically intelligent and flexible (capable of being a sitting or box to box midfielder) .

If we can get him on a two year deal with a third year option on wages in the region of 150-180k per week then he'd be an absolute superb signing.

His attitude and work rate have never been in question, the only real negative I've heard about him is that his mother interferes too much, and as his agent she has over stepped her boundaries at other clubs. That said he has apparently hired a new agent with his mother taking a step back (although this remains to be seen) .

I'd say sign him up if we can, and set clear boundaries about agents access to the training ground.

I thought Bruno and Mount were midfielders?

17.) 29 Aug 2024
29 Aug 2024 13:48:12
Patrick, technically they are, but they play further forward.

I'm thinking about if we play a 4231 type shape where we look to play with a double pivot in midfield, is that an area you'd want to play either Bruno or Mount?

Probably not. They will typically play much further forward either in the No.10 position or even in the wide roles.

I am at a loss as to what system ETH will adopt! My concern is that it will be really difficult to bring in a top midfielder (thinking about Rabiot) only to spend most of his time on the bench. At this stage of his career that surely would not appeal. 433?

Chiesa didn't have a future at juve and no other teams in for him says it all. He was decent a few years back but that injury he had killed him. I think he will struggle with the physicality of English football.

dio, you are referring to Sekou Kone, an 18 year old defensive midfielder.
He is going into the U21s, although he is considered as having very high potential and could be fast tracked if he demonstrates he can operate at the level required.
He may well need time to settle and acclimatise to a very different culture.
Manchester may well be a tad cooler than Mali! then again he might want to see a bit of snow!
