Brandon Williams to Brighton for £15m?
I really like Brandon and prefer him to stay, especially as could cover both fullback spots. However seemingly not in Ten Hag's plans.

I suspect we are still looking to move Wan-Bissika on too so expect we will be looking for a RB.

The lad himself said he doesn't want to stay unless he's fighting for a first team spot. He's a decent player who'll have a career in the premier league I would hope.

He wants to play first team football so best to get a decent fee for him and wish him the best.

Take the 15 million

I do like Williams but the more I think about it along with dalot telles and awb they ain’t good enough

Ideally it’s going to be malacia and shaw for left back

I would get a rb in and if I had to keep anyone it would be dalot.

Would be a fair deal for a player that is third choice in two positions here.

£15m for what if the tour is any indication is our fourth choice LB (1. Shaw, 2. Malacia, 3. Telles) and fourth choice RB (1. Dalot, 2. AWB, 3. Laird) mean we should snap Brighton’s hand off.

Put that £15m towards Ajax’s valuation of Antony and voila!

£15m? I'd bite their hand off for £5.
We have two decent leftbacks, excluding Telles who is still lingering plus Martinez can shift across.
Rightback again we have two and are constantly being linked to others, plus there are youths.
If Williams expects to challenge amongst that lot he's best elsewhere.

We should sell or loan AWB. just not good enough with the ball. Sell Williams as he is 3rd choice in both positions and get Dumfries from Inter. We would then have 2 full backs challenging each other at both left and right with a couple of the youngsters below them.
I think the way EtH wants to play we will need good rotation.

Williams needs to go for the good of his career. He finds himself behind Shaw, Malacia, and Telles currently at LB. While Alvaro Fernandez must surely be breathing down his neck to leapfrog him as well.

He seems like a good kid with his head screwed on. I wish him luck at his next club. Brighton could be a really good move, working with an excellent coach in Graham Potter.

While 15m back in the club coffers isn't to be sneezed at for a player so far down the pecking order.

Williams is naturally a rb tho

Give him a go in place of awb and get rid of awb and telles.

For £15m and guaranteed football in a team playing some nice football under Potter I suspect Brandon definitely goes. As Bolger says though he's a right back originally though and, with a new manager on-board, if I were him I'd be wanting to stay for another season and see what opportunities may break. He has youth on his side after all. We look to be trying to offload AWB and the upcoming Fernandez is being loaned to Preston. Surely Ten Hag has took one look at Telles and thought WFT? So could be in a position where we have Malacia / Shaw for LB and Dalot / Williams for RB if the cards fell his way. I suspect we will look to offload AWB, Williams and Telles though and use that money to go for a first teamer RB with Dalot as the cover player.

I see the only time Telles featured in the four friendlies was coming on at HT usually with Malacia, but playing in midfield instead. Hopefully not a sign of things to come! AWB barely featured. Dalot is looking like first choice for now. I can see any fullback in a ten Hag system grabbing a sackful of assists.

He is definitely looking for the move anyway shappy. He needs it too. Best of luck to him, will be a decent addition elsewhere. I'd put a buy back clause in him though.

Bolger, is he a natural RB anymore?

Sure he's right footed, but 59 of his 62 senior appearances for Manchester United and Norwich City have come at LB with only 3 at RB.

You'd have thought if he had shown himself a quality RB in training or in the the three games he has played at RB then he'd have been given more games as a RB.

He may have started out in the academy as a RB, but he was switched to LB two years before his senior debut.

Many players play a different position in youth football than they end up playing as a professional. Rio Ferdinand started out as a striker before dropping back into defence via a few years in midfield along the way.

Phil Neville played RB for a couple of years before becoming a LB. He then played the majority of his senior career at LB despite being right footed. Although he did have a few spells at both RB and CDM.

AWB played as a winger until his final year in the Crystal Palace academy before breaking into the first team at RB.

I think Brandon is probably a LB now, it's the role he has been playing since he was 16 years old (5 years now) .

I can't see why EtH would give him ago at RB ahead of Ethan Laird who was so good at RB in the academy that he was the reason why Williams was moved to LB in the first place.

RB spot is up for grabs. I expect the club will try and look for a solution for AWB away from the club. Ideally a permanent move, but it may be a loan with a compulsory purchase option or something like that.

If AWB leaves then we will probably look to bring someone in, depending on who that is they will either be first choice or someone with potential to challenge Dalot for the first choice spot. If we can't bring someone in then it'll be Laird who'll play understudy to Dalot.

I actually think Dalot is one of the players who could do very well under EtH and could be one of the suprise players who flourishes under him. He has all the skills needed, he just needs them bringing out of him consistently. Good coaching might do that, along with a consistent run in the team.

I know it's not easy to play for a team which is being relegated but Brandon didn't play great for Norwich. Too often he was caught out of position. If the coaches believe he might one day be good enough (I don't think he will) then why not sell him with a buy back clause.

With regard to the other full backs in the squad I would hope that ETH is a really good coach and perhaps can teach them to become better players. Pep and Klopp seem to do this with their players.

Every time a manager goes to a new club he has to buy loads more players. It would be nice if for once a manager came in and said "I am happy with this squad and believe I can make them into winners" and then do just that.

I’m with Halesini on this one.

The chance to play every week in a good side with a quality coach in a nice part of the world. Good luck to him. Great move for all - the player and both clubs. He’s a decent player and with regular football and good coaching he’s got a chance.

Bite their arm off 15m its about 14m over his true value.
Get it done and don't look back.

Agreed Ken. This is the sort of deal Utd need to get better at rather than collecting surplus players who will never get a game.

MancMan, that is the sort of fee you can get for decent squad players who have come through the academy and and aren't on silly money.

The biggest reason for us struggling to get a decent fee for players when we sell them is because of their wages.

While they are often also players we have bought who haven't worked out as well as we hoped.

So to a buying club they see a player on high wages who couldn't make it at a top club.

Why would you want to buy a player like that?

Whereas someone like Williams is a young player with potential, whose wages aren't disproportionate to their ability, with the added bonus of having developed at a top club with a high level of experience.

There will be more clubs prepared to pay 15m for Williams than there would be for Telles.

I think it would be the smart choice, moving to Brighton. Potter is a very good manager and will help to develop him. I'm not sure there could be a better move for him.

25 Jul 2022 16:38:17
It's a good point Shappy and you are right but there are plenty of others like Williams who are good youngsters but when it comes down to it are never going to make it at Man Utd or any other TOP club.

For example; Chong, Shoretire, Elanga, Tuanzebe.

Utd need to spot these nearly players earlier and get some cash back for them. They also need to stop shelling out £35 million on long shots like Diallo.

BTW, Williams is on £65k a week, not exactly cheap wages.

25 Jul 2022 21:03:33
Whoever decided to offer Brandon Williams 65k a week needs sacking and forbidden from working in football ever again (polite version ??)

We’ve made bang average players into multi millionaires, it’s absolutely ridiculous.

I don’t need to write an essay and a load of Google pasted stats to know we should snatch their hand off.

MancMan

I would love to know what makes you think Shoretire won't make it.

Regarded as one of the biggest talents in the Academy and if he were to leave tomorrow would have no shortage of suitors.
